The Ghostbusters Thread (Old, New, Animated, Whatever)

No actually, I did not. I wateched the trailer sans Joe commentary.

What makes you think that?

you bring up some points he brought up. Like the RIPD comparison. And Movuebob at least mentioned the Happy Madison thing based on what I heard.

btw, I agree on the monster design thing. Partly. extreme ghostbusters had way creepier designs. Like in that one episode with the cenobites expy.

They did, did they? How the fuck would I have known when I didn't even look at their videos? I just watched the trailer blindly and that was the opinion I had.

I've also been hearing some SJW complaints about the film about not making the black character a scientist as well. I know she's trying to fill the Winston role as the more down-to-earth, streetwise character whose own unique insights can be just as helpful. Truth was, that was my favorite thing about Winston.
Damned if everything Leslie Jones has ever done involving ghosts doesn't feel like it should be preceded by a disclaimer about being the product of a different time.
For example, Jones plays a "scientist" in this SNL sketch, but she might as well be a Pullman porter cheating at dice for all it feels like a Willie Best routine. Why would anyone anticipate anything besides a comedy stereotype from Jones in the new Ghostbusters? It's baffling.

Just took a look at the trailer, and now I know why I'm going to hate this movie. Not because of the all female cast (which could have worked, emphasis on the "Could have" part).

The movie has no reason to exist other than "Ghostbusters with female characters." So what? Who cares?

It looks like it will be an enormous bomb.

Just shows how flawed the movie is when people can come to the same exact conclusion without hearing the other's opinion.

A Ghostbuster reboot is inherently fucked.

The first movie was a perfect storm that caught lightning in a bottle. Hell, look at Ghostbusters II- it's basically the first movie, just... worse. And that was done by the same crew. A movie by a completely different crew is basically fucked, since there isn't that perfect storm of talent that made the original a classic.

I didn't even watch the trailer and I already know that it's bad. Part of the big problem is that it seems it's already alienated the mainstream viewing audience and won't really attract the SJW types because there's going to still be things wrong with it.

Secondly, while both films featured SNL talent, I've never heard of any of the actresses for the new film. While Aykroyd and Murray are instantly recognizable due to their long film careers (today), they were already recognizable in 1984. Hudson (Zeddemore) didn't have the star power as the other three, but Ramis (Spangler) had Animal House, Caddyshack, and National Lampoon's Vacation in his career (though only actually acted in one). Murray already headlined in Meatballs (co-written by Ramis) and was a minor character in Caddyshack. Aykroyd had The Blues Brothers and Trading Places.

On the other hand, we have the lead McCarthy, who has had Bridesmaids, Mike & Molly, and a few other smaller roles, Wiig with a few other roles (not many of which have been comedies), McKinnon and Jones, who have little to go in beyond sketch comedy and their minority statuses (McKinnon being a lesbian and Jones being an African American woman).

Though that scene where they animated the Statue of Liberty with an NES joystick was pretty cool.

I noticed there was this brass knuckle type weapon one of them was using to banish a ghost by punching it. That's actually a neat idea in case they need to do some close-quarters combat when a proton pack might be too risky to fight with up close. Or to quietly sneak up on a ghost.
