The Ghostbusters Thread (Old, New, Animated, Whatever)

One would think the Sony execs were siccing the neckbeards and SJWs against each other for their amusement.

But no, they really thought this campaign would make money and lead to a successful franchise. :heart-empty:

A super series too, akin to what Marvel and DC are doing (or trying to do). Because clearly a comedy film, whose main strength IS that they're cheap to make, is something that needs 144M on production alone. Don't get me wrong, you would spend more due to the fact that the series does merit some good ones, but if you're spending action movie budget on a comedy movie production, then you're going to fuck up somewhere. Mainly in that comedies tend to just do okay unless you catch some lightning in that bottle of yours.

The fact that they then fucked up the production budget so bad they cheaped out on the effects is particularly horrendous.

If you could manufacture fundies attacking your movie and trying to get it banned and force people not to see it, that might get you at least an opening weekend for people to see what the fuss is about.

But "GIMME MONEY OR YOU'RE SCUM!" just doesn't. You're like what the fuck is wrong with these tards.

I can see what they were aiming for, they had a bad initial reaction so tried to spin it as "Check out these sad woman haters!" and since being progressive is popular online and in the media (At least in the mainstream parts) they'd rally round the movie but I don't think casual movie goers care about those things or really anything that's internet based.

The problem with trying to appeal to movie ticket buyers by sucking up to online douchebags is that another thing that's popular online is just pirating movies instead of buying tickets.

That's true but it's not just people online, they set up the narrative that only sexist man children dislike the movie so during television interviews they talked about how the female cast is funny in the movie and how it's helping to inspire young girls, also movie review sites could virtue signal about how great it is to see a diverse cast but it didn't help them at all though since it was transparent for everyone to see what was happening but maybe Feig and the rest of the team were so caught up in their media world that they thought it'd have a real world impact to movie sales.

It's ok though. All the small fraction of women in that cast and crew photo are not gonna be mocked over it AND little girls finally have some Ghostbusters media to call their own

Paul Feig is an improv-style director, which works great in comedies.
You let the casts riff while recording and then use the funniest parts.
Special effects aren't made for improv, though.

This movie was a perfect storm of wrong people for the wrong job.

All it looked like was they had a shitty movie on their hands and they were making desperate excuses. Plus they hated men.

So basically, if you liked the original, don't see this piece of shit.

Way to advertise.
