The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

Christ...that looks amazing!

Still in stock, too (I dunno how many pre-orders they got). There's also a chainsaw hands variation.

Got a few more in my cart, too, that I'm excited for. This is my first foray into collecting Godzilla merch just for myself, we mainly buy some of the toys for my baby brother.

(I didn't watch Jobby's video in time to see the dual-combo, but I only wanted Mothra separately soooo.)

It does make sense. If they had named it literally anything else, it would have probably gained some level of acceptance akin to something like Anaconda. But when you throw Godzilla's name on it, it raises certain expectations for the character, and when those aren't met, fans get mad.

The 98 film is not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it is very much a product of its time. If you ever wanted to know what Jurassic Park would have been like if it was made by the minds behind Independence Day, then that's basically what this is.

Godzilla '98 is one of my earliest movie theater experiences. XD I don't know what I was thinking in deluding myself into thinking it was a Godzilla movie, but yeah, taking it at face-value, not a terrible monster flick, but it's an obvious case of chasing after trends.

Monster Island Buddies recently made a video showcasing the Taco Bell kids' meal toys, which was a blast from the past I never had the kids' meal as a kid, but I didn't know just how early it was into their "¡Yo quiero Taco Bell!" campaign.

I got confirmation from Big Bad Toystore my metal cyborg boy's finally coming. Been waiting for him since April.

The figurine in question:

stupid sexy Gigan!

unrelated those ChibiGodzilla shorts on the official youtube have been fun, just dumb little 30s things about the adventures of a foot-and-a-half tall Godzilla

My favorite Godzilla movie is Godzilla vs Biollante. Everything about that movie is awesome, even the parts focused on the human characters, which are usually my least favorite parts of a Godzilla movie. Also helps that Biollante has a kick-ass design:

Second favorite is the original Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Like Biollante, King Caesar is a personal favorite design-wise.

Wanna know the godzilla movie that popped my 7 year old cherry?

I was broken in to the franchise by what may be the ultimate paradigm of Showa era cheese

Godzilla vs Megalon

Flying Godzilla kicks, a retarded yet strangely endearing beetle monster, insane amounts of stock footage, the best godzilla villain Gigan randomly showing up and kicking ass, and of course...

Jet. Fucking. Jaguar

Also somehow the copy I owned was a subtitled VHS...which IIRC means it would have been a bootlegged/fanmade thing since UK releases were all dubbed back then, which in and of itself kicked off my slow burning affection for subs over dubs when viewing any and all foreign media

I got that movie for my birthday when I was a little kid. Loved it back then. Looking back now, it's cheese as he'll and one of the weaker Godzilla films, but it still holds a special place in my heart.

Got that one as a little kid too along with a ton of old Showa area films on VHS with the cool old box art on them. When the old VHS collection was purged I made sure to save the tapes for the box art alone.
Megalon is one of the movies that I would be likely to show to friends because its so goofy and its what most non-fans would think all Godzilla movies are like, a gateway movie if you will. You give them Godzilla doing Kung-fu but you also give them a plot with underground aliens trying to kidnap a shapeshifting robot. If it doesn't get them interested in the franchise at least they probably laughed several times.

Megalon is a lot less bad when it isn't the really awful dub print that was heavily circulated in the USA.

Regardless of how it will be I'm excited for anything new. Promo image of Goji looks great. Now I'm starting to wonder when Toho will cave and green-light a high budget suit movie.

Thank God(zilla). I've always wanted a tv series and I can't think of anything more metal than a weeb anime of it. Goji's design looks great. Hope lots of old monster faves are involved. I'd love to see the return of Destoroyah or Orga or Biollante.

But please, PLEASE Japan, bring my spiky underdog boi back.

The artstyle on the characters look a bit less realistic than i'd like but if they can nail the "oh fuck what now" feel I am all for it and as long as we don't get a protagonist like the one from the animated trilogy I'll sit on my knees and praise glorious nippon.

This video showed up out of the blue on my recs, and this is super cool, had to pass it along. A Godzilla museum opened up back in August, with its biggest attraction being a Shin Godzilla attraction you zipline through, and Giwachin showed it off recently including some goodies.

They made a Shin Godzilla attraction and it's not the First Form. They had ONE Job.

No lie, for about a year or so I was scared of that shot because of how disturbingly sudden the cut to that wide shot of him lumbering into the crowd was. I had no idea what I was looking at, either, I wanted to sink into my seat at the theater because it was so creepy.

The first form of Shin Godzilla...I didn't know how to react to it.

Its the first time I've seen something that is unsettling, creepy, and hilarious all at the same time.

It was definitely weird and memorable. I'll give it that.

For the life of me I couldn't take that face seriously, but when he started to stand up I knew shit was going down. I also love the ending where they have a giant frozen monster in the middle of the city and I would watch a short movie where they try to figure out how to move it somewhere less distracting.
