The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

Looks like the next monsterverse film is going to have a new director.

Hopefully it means that Junkie XL won't be back as well.
That's a shame, his next movie was gonna be more Godzilla focused. Just don't bring any of the bozos who directed any of the Star Wars Sequels.

Maybe Michael Dougherty can come back to the director's chair since he said, in an interview, if given the chance to make a sequel he would put the spotlight on Biollante and Gigan.

Honestly, I was going to be a bit miffed if he was director third time in a row. Not that I think he's done a bad job, it's just now someone else's time to show their love for the Big G, or even to bring back Dougherty. Kong's story is essentially over, and Wingard did his job in that regard.

I'm going to have to make some predictions here. Bear McCurdy to return to scoring
Great does this mean that we're going to have more scenes set in dark and hurricane blizzards again? Adam at least gave us clear fight scenes however with just too focused on Kong's story and making Godzilla just be the guest star. They need to go with his premise but focus on Godzilla, give us a fan favorite monster for him to fight, have several battles during the day or whenever you can see them, make human interaction at least minimal if not logical. And as for the soundtrack maybe start adding some actual rock songs instead of just the same old bombastic orchestra that's been done to death in every monster film this ever come out. Try to go for more of a gmk style score where it's part electronic part orchestra and part Rock.

I don't give a shit how dark or stormy the weather was. KOTM had the most fan service in all of the monsterverse films.

Yeah but you had to admit you couldn't really see a thing during the fights unless you were in the theater or fucked around with your TV settings enough to get a clearer image. I don't know why they think that these fights have to overblown with effects like that. I mean the CGI would have looked good anyways without it I don't think we can do any more better with it then we can 10 years ago. The reason why that old CGI looks better than today's is because of the camera the lighting and film quality.

See this is the problem with you Godzilla fans you're too dense. You'll eat up any movie that gets thrown at you and you will just eat it right up regardless of quality. It's been 10 years with this monster verse that we still haven't had a decent Godzilla film that doesn't focus on Kong that has watchable battles. Like I keep saying it's never going to be a proper Godzilla film until they dust off the old suits/props and make one with the help of limited modern graphics and effects. If Ultraman can do it so can Godzilla, if only the fucking studios would just put the money into doing that. Nobody likes CGI fights if it means to cut costs and hide any imperfections using blizzards and hurricanes or the dark of night.

Everyone complains about the dark KOTM Ghidorah fight, but honestly its not even that important to me in the context of that movie. Rodan's scenes were top tier, and probably my favorite part of that movie. I thought Mothra's scenes were beautifully shot. I don't think the darkness had anything to do with CGI constraints, I'm not sure I get the vision there but I will defend it by saying it's at least something different. That movie is probably the closest we will get to a classic Godzilla movie, coming from the Monsterverse. I love it. Now that the Kong arc is over I wouldn't mind a Godzilla movie from Legendary without the focus on continuity in the Monsterverse. Not that it would ever happen. Marvel fucked that up for us Americans. I really wish we could have a classic alien invasion, Mecha-King Ghidorah, or Bio Hazard Baddie Legendary movie. I have a feeling if they make another Godzilla movie it might be the last. I will certainly eat up any Godzilla movie, but I am a fan of practical effects as well. I think Minus One did a great job mixing practical/CGI. Does that qualify as a proper Godzilla movie to you?

Imagine complaining about the quality of B-movie monster movies.
He's just mad all because he's expecting B-grade giant monster movies to be high art, when realistically they aren't. :story: They're just dumbfounded but innocent fun and entertainment. You know, like WWE or many video games before 2013 (with a few exceptions)

This is kind of how I feel about monster verse. It’s meant to be a “turn your brain off and enjoy” set of movies, if you go in expecting them to be a masterpiece you’re looking in the wrong place.

I’ll take any Monsterverse movie over any of the slop that’s shat out today, like gee, it makes you wonder why GxK made lots of $$$. Almost as if people don’t care and just want to see a fun movie with big lizard and ape fighting other monsters together. There’s plenty of other Godzilla movies that are more traditional. You have Shin Godzilla, you have Minus One, hell, you can go back like 20 years and watch the early 2000s Millennium movies. At the end of the day, you’re the one who sounds dense and it sounds like Monsterverse isn’t for you.

Well yea, the Monsterverse are mindless popcorn movies that are on par with the likes of either Independence Day or the Bayformers movies. The people, especially journos and most of e-celebs, who act as if they need to be total masterpieces aren't smart themselves. It's a classic tale of snobs against slobs, as they're known to pick small shrimps of the sea rather than finding better fishes to fry

Listen until they bring back guys wearing rubber suits duking it out. It's never going to be Godzilla.
