Mega64 is doing a weird livestream right now begging for money. Derrick just said that before the stream started they only had 2 weeks left before they would have had to just shut down. The vibes are real weird, there's just this sense of desperation I get watching it.

From Twitter:

This kind of took me by surprise, they moved into a new office a few years ago, they had been doing those stand-up shows, I thought things were going well but I guess not. Shawn was also complaining about the Youtube algorithm.

This seems to be the right place to dump my thoughts on this fiasco.

So their merch sales were down 80% over the year, so what were their options? Do a fire sale and fire off all the extra staff other than the core 4? Nah let's have a begging steam. I didn't think this was honest at all, throughout the year they would say " make sure to get [merch item] while you can, I'm watching and theyre going fast!" And that's been a tactic they've used for years. Perceived scarcity. The amount of dipshits that were willing to donate to them only speaks to how stupid their fan base actually is. The only person I would feel bad for would be Garrett since he just relatively gave up a normal working job to be full time staff. I'll watch the guys but I'll never spend a dime because of how disingenuous the way they operate. Them having to get normal jobs would've been the funniest thing they've done in at least a decade.

I stopped watching like 10 years ago after I think I felt they were getting too full of themselves, or maybe not, it's been so long - people naturally just move on from things.

Returning to see them now during this big beg stream it feels like they have iDubbbz syndrome, where in the past they had a bit of a "too cool for everyone" edge, which makes sense to move on from, but they've replaced it with nothing. Listening to them really feels like listening to teenagers, or women. They're all a decent bit older than me yet I feel that I've out matured them, they've got nothing to offer me.

They probably should have just got themselves real jobs years ago. They've kicked the can down the road with this recent support, but in a year or two they'll be back in the same spot, but just older.

I haven't followed these guys in a long time since they were whining about politics/COVID nonstop. Saw Derrick at a convention walking around and he was so rude to fans trying to talk to him lmao don't blame him for that though.

I checked out the subreddit and it seems they're blaming "chuds" that were involved with some Stellar Blade controversy. Anyone know wtf they're talking about?

Maybe these chuds can pull it off again with this new stream of money and we'll have another embarrassing begging stream.

Garrett is the only one I like at this point.

I watched quite a bit of the stream yesterday, and it was just kind of pathetic, to be honest. I haven't been a proper Mega64 fan for a good long while, but they really kind of dropped the ball and never advanced beyond 2012 methods. I loved watching the personal channels, Christmascast, and clips of the streams were good fun (PPS was always a good time, especially the last one I caught with Charls), but they... just never really could make it. The retirement of the gluttony Christmascast and replacing with the gameshow style, while sensible, was a beacon of things to come.

Should I rename this thread to the Mega64 Grieving Thread or just make a new general Mega64 thread? The purpose of this one was to cover the bs groomer allegations that have now faded with time, so it would probably be worthwhile to turn it into a place to discuss the group's other failings.

I think a mega64 general would be useful, but discussion seems quite niche.

even if Kojima payed for everything
He posted on Instagram about it: it was paid for by cameos : )
I have no sympathy for these guys lol, I like to listen to the podcast but they're so disingenuous it's insane. They do a telethonesque podcast saying they'll might have to permanently shut down, and then right after one of them is talking about his planned vacation using pretty much fan donations lol. Other than Garrett I'm looking forward to the fry bagging arc for these dorks.

From what I've been told, and I cannot find a clip of it to substantiate this, and they privated the begstream, but the "in danger of shutting down" was because of mass chargebacks on their donation page. Again, this is just what someone (who has a vested interest in defending Mega64) told me and they didn't actually show me any proof of it, but while the Mega64 crew did not go into detail (he said they talked about this "in the first few minutes" of the stream), it was allegedly chargeback fraud by the heckin chuds over their Stellar Blade video. Again, this is all hearsay until I see proof but I can't find any clips and the stream got privated. That Stellar Blade video was six months ago though, and this is only a problem now? I know how quickly chargebacks go through, there wouldn't be a delay to explain it unless they contested all the chargebacks and lost which would be very funny.

Of course, this begs the question of why didn't the chuds just chargeback fraud the begstream too.
