USA Today confirmed it with a brit expat guy that lives in Hong Kong that could not have been Near's official employer or boss because there is no way that guy or his company in Hong Kong could have sponsored a visa for Japan. And the company in Japan that the Hong Kong guy claims is their Tokyo office is just a reseller for expat guys crappy products.

I don't know if near is dead or not. It doesn't matter. But these guys need to stop thinking that because stuff happens in Japan no one else can actually confirm anything like this is 200 years ago and there is no internet/very few foreigners in the country.

Lmao

what exactly is a resident card? is that like a temp visa?

All foreigners in Japan have to carry a residence card. It used just to be just a card saying you were a foreigner and where you lived from the local town office. Basically an ID card. Now it comes from immigration directly and it carries the previous meta data and your visa status and visa expiry so if you get pulled over the police know who you are and if your visa has expired without doing any calls.

Yep. Not only the residence card, if you lived there for awhile you are to also get an “My Number” card.

Japanese government can track a man in multiple vectors.

Kinda figured he didn't kill himself. While the Nips aren't bothered by their own people offing themselves, a foreigner with a bit of internet came would cause at least some low level political functionary to claim how terrible it was that this well respected foreigner committed suicide and that it shouldn't detract from the glory of Nippon. Or something.

Instead, there's been nothing at all.

Yeah but they aren't really comparable. The my number card is a piece of paper with your name and your id number on it unless you apply for the photo id version. The only time you need it is filing taxes, setting up a bank account etc. You could make a fake one in ms paint.

The residence card is more serious. You are meant to carry it around with you at all times and from what I remember you can be arrested and jailed for not doing so.

"b-but it was the end of June!" lmao I saw that coming, you can check the web.archive.org pages for the previous years when people could actually travel and it's been to the month end of December 31 and June 30 every time. If a death in fucking Mexico can get reported, one in Japan sure as hell can.
