This is all very interesting, but I feel it necessary to remind everyone that Byuu still isn't dead.
Very necessary post in light of the derailment and dick-measuring contest those two autists have engaged in for the last two pages. Also, your profile .gif fits like a glove here.

I'm checking the Overseas Death List daily but the mfers still haven't pushed an update, and by my reckoning they're a month and a week late.

I JUST WANT TO REEE AT HECTOR IN PEACE WITH FRESH NEW AMMUNITION, FOR FUCKS' SAKE.

As some kiwi said before. Dont make me defend spergs. Marcan and Byuu technological achievements are impressive. I happen to be familiar with both the kind of work Byuu did (old consoles, intimate knowledge of certain old CPUs) and the work Marcan does (bringing up Linux from reset to shell)

Stick to the fake Byuucide and stop seething over Marcan like a standard tranny.

I don't see it happening and there's no evidence besides "he was a real big faggot here so chances are, he's gonna be a colossal faggot later".
This but unironically.

He also found a serious security hole baked right into the M1 CPU. At least that's some information I can use.

Holy shit, that is a very good point, I didn't catch that the first time I read it but you're 100% right. Damn, what a freudian slip. :story:
You'd think someone who was being totally harassed, i.e. called out as the fuckwad he is, who had the evidence that could stop it all, would do so. This guy is positively fucking Christlike in his suffering to achieve, what exactly? A reputation as a lying sack?

Nobody can be 100% sure that anybody other than Hector is involved in the hoax.
We know for a fact that @Wayne Beckett is though.

Or not even his evidence, though, which was my point with the 'freudian slip' thing. He said he'd "have to put up with another 6 months of us" as if he knew for a fact that nobody else was going to come forward with an iota of evidence that Byuu is actually dead (i.e. no public comments from Byuu's family or estranged husband, no death certificate, no police announcement, no additional testimonies from people that knew Byuu IRL, etc). A lot can happen in 6 months. The only way he'd ever know for sure that none of the other things would happen is if the whole thing was fake from the start.

Well, we know that a journalist reported an account purportedly from him. I have no reason to believe a shitbox operation like USA Today did any fact-checking at all though. For all we know, that's Hector too, or some other person associated with Byuu, or even a completely random troll who has nothing to do with any of this.

We know that somebody has claimed on the internet to be that person, but we can't verify it really is that person. Could be Hector.

"Wayne" also claimed to have a photo of the corpse somehow, and posted a picture of a cookie jar he claimed was an urn. Not credible. "Wayne" looks fake.

Hector is the only verifiable person we know for sure is involved in the hoax.

???????????

In this one, last I checked.
lol no

Contributing to Open Source projects is certifiable cow behavior and may as well be a dog whistle, but I'll address that in a bit. Most FOSS drivers are complete and total shitware and decades behind their closed source counterparts. See: any display driver in Linux. The feature parity is generally completely laughable. It's "impressive" in the same way that making a car with stuff you have laying around the house after 20 years is "impressive". Yes, most of these projects are hampered or outright kept in this bad position by coroporations keeping things a black box. Impressive would be if we actually got feature parity out of those black boxes from a collective community of autistic maintainers, but the FOSS community is made of retards with egos larger than their claimed IQs so we get stuff like Wayland taking over a decade to be anything close to usable, or people losing their mind over systemd, or people fighting over Snap/AppImage/Flatpak for distro independent package distribution, or whether it's even """good""" to install software outside of a package manager to begin with so we get fucking nowhere. The "Year Of the Linux Desktop" is like cold fusion, always 10 years away.

This doesn't even scratch the iceberg of how FOSS projects are absolutely ridden with cows galore. We have repository maintainers more concerned with removing no-no words or change language regarding how kernel signals should terminate processes because someone might be driven to suicide over that. We have maintainers of projects intentionally pulling or deploying malicious code for political reasons. We have third parties deliberately building in exploits or otherwise malicious code as a social experiment and trying to get their code pulled upstream. FOSS cows range from ineffectual to outright hostile and dangerous. Up the thread someone was getting dismissed after implying how installing Open Source Software is risky, but the truth is it is risky unless you know exactly what you are looking at. It's good opsec to always be mistrustful of all software you yourself did not write. Mistrust all binaries, all source code (espcially code you do not understand), and especially mistrust all software from any third party that is outright hostile to any other group, particularly any group you belong to.

So no, programming anything for Linux isn't impressive. It's shitware at it's least dangerous and a major security risk for yourself depending on whether the group of loser hobbyists maintaining the code have any motivation to do something malicious as opposed to preoccupied with doing pointless shit instead of writing more shitcode.

So while it might be impressive to you, I'm gonna call a rose a rose. Now, excuse me while I
Code:
emerge --pretend --verbose kiwifarms/tophat

EDIT: also is near dead yet?

Nobody can be 100% sure that anybody other than Hector is involved in the hoax. For all we know, he's the author of the anonymous document.
The video by 'Bontai Buddy' speculates Byuu wrote it himself and as evidence points to several similarities between his writing style and the style in the document. It would make sense if Byuu had to create a sock and lie to Hector that way but Hector himself seems perfectly fine with lying anyway, his whole story about talking to the police over the phone, even though there's no way in hell any police department in the world would just talk to somebody who isn't blood related, and then changing his story to coming in to the station to sit face to face with a detective, seriously wtf is up with that whole story? Meanwhile kiwis have called the actual police and they haven't a goddamned clue.

I want @Wayne Beckett to show me pictures of near's corpse he totally has instead of a cookie jar that says "It's Byuu for reals guys, rip in piece 1994-2021"

Byuu’s work is on a complete different level from Marcan’s. Writing drivers for Linux is a cakewalk compared to writing accurate whole-system emulators.

Like I said, Marcan writing an M1 emulator would actually be impressive.

A lot of faggots in this thread seem to be FLOSS-idealists. I’ve been around long enough to see that 99% of these types of projects fail to deliver and also fail to provide much useful information in the end.

You're stereotyping based on a few very visible cases of stupidity, which is fair enough but it's not seeing the forest for the trees. For all the troonery and tomfoolery we point out in the Open Source Software Community thread, there's tons of projects that just ship software and keep the nonsense under wraps enough that it doesn't come to the surface and be noticeable.

For all the failures of open source software, you are currently (probably) using a browser with at least some open-source components to connect using a network stack with at least some open-source components to a web site which is running an open-source operating system and open-source programming runtime to run a forum which is not open source (but could have been) but regardless connects to an open-source database to store and retrieve data. Is there troonery in the LibreSSL or PHP language or PostgreSQL database communities? Probably, but I haven't heard of any, and so long as they continue to ship good software, who really cares?

Well, whatever. I guess nobody will change the minds of some of the people here. But it doesn't really matter. Hate Asahi specifically or FOSS in general, but it will still continue to be made and improve the lives of the people who use it - which probably includes you, whether you know it or not.
