Here is the problem with the Gun control debate
There is extreme and most times willful ignorance being propagated usually by the Anti gunner side.

But the pro gun rights side isn't immune from these issues either but let's break down some basic issues.

Assault Weapons vs assault rifle.
The term Assault Weapon doesn't exist. This is a made up term by the media to middle the gun debate.
Assault Rifle Is a rifle that is Both selective fire and fires an Intermediate cartridge. Larger then a pistol but smaller then a full sized rifle cartridge.

Pistols are used in most killings and mass shootings. the handgun is the number one tool used in all mass shootings. While killings do occur with semi-automatic rifles it's not nearly to the degree that the media portrays mass shootings out to be.

Rifles are deadlier then handguns it's a fact that due to the powder behind the round even the .223/5.56 is a rather weak caliber however it's high accuracy and ability to maim at longer ranges. There is a reason even the Soviet Union switched from their famous 7.62x39 to 5.45 round.

Clips and magazines are two very different things. A stripper clip is used to load rounds into the breech.
A magazine on the hand is what you store rounds in and reload.

America isn't the most violent nation. Not even by oced standards. Mexico and Chilie are higher on the list.

But gun control worked for kiwi/Aussie/UK
In reality gun crime remain unchanged in Australias case it rose to a high in the mid 2000s before petering out.

In the UK gun control had little effect on violent crime. in fact crime trends have more to do with immigration then access to guns.

Some bonus facts.

Mexico has some of the worlds most draconian gun laws but the world's worst gun violence.

Brazil has seen a decrease in some forms of gun violence (it still tops the charts) due to liberalization of the laws.

Exactly, the Herostratus effect is why people do it. Firearms have existed in their current state for roughly a century yet many of the school/workplace/etc. shooter types are inspired by Columbine and the media made celebrities out of those guys.

You take a firearm into a school or other venue of choice and unload upon the locals, you're pretty much guaranteed your face and name on national news, if nothing else.
