Last weekend, on Saturday, kiwi friend @zyclonPD posted a picture of a cat to my profile page that would send me into a legitimate frenzy attempting to unravel a dark mystery - you see, this cat changes. It moves. You might be saying, "of course it movies, it's a .gif", and yes, it is in fact a .gif. Normally that would be the end of it and this thread wouldn't exist.
But there ended up being so much more strangeness to this.
Let me just start with the image that was posted on Saturday, along with a little bit of a disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage - mentally, physically, psychically, spectrally, or otherwise; nor any curses, hexes, and/or transfer-hauntings/chakral parasites, entities or anything else - that may occur from viewing these images or their concomitant phenomena. Just in case.
Also: This is NOT a joke. You can go to my page right now and see for yourself. These things are happening. With all of that said, here is the image:
The strangeness began when I would scroll down my profile page. I started noticing that the image seemed to "flash" for a split second. I kept catching it out of the corner of my eye...it happened so fast that I almost thought I was imagining it at first. After it happened a few more times, I knew I had seen something, I just wasn't sure yet. It started driving me crazy. I right clicked the image and saw that, indeed, it was a .gif. Mystery solved, right?
Wrong.
I sat staring at the image for minutes at a time to see what the strange flashing was. Nothing changed. Not a single thing. As I sat there looking at it, I started feeling kind of strange and even a little bit eerie, as if I was looking at one of those "haunted pictures" on the internet you are supposed to stare at and feel more and more threatened by or something.
All of a sudden, the image changed to a solid black square for literally a nanosecond. I thought, "here it is. here is the answer." I thought for sure that was the end of it.... Until later that day when I noticed the cat's position in the picture change.
after seeing that, I posted this on Sunday:
I decided to investigate this a lot further. I did several experiments...the strange "anomalies" would only appear when scrolling up and down the page and unless you were LOOKING for them, you'd miss them. I began scrolling up and down over and over (which did produce some strange effects but none that could be screenshotted), tried opening the picture in other windows, everything. Keep in mind I have only been looking into this for a total of maybe a couple hours in the past two days.
Here is everything I have captured so far:
This morning I had the screen position stopped just above the photo, when I went to grab a drink. When I came back, it looked like this:
This is very similar to the "position change" flash I witnessed before, except this one remained on screen until I scrolled down. I made one click of the scroll wheel down and it "flashed" back to normal. This has been the only anomaly I was able to capture with a hotkey screenshot so far.
I also run a big monitor hooked up to my laptop right now because I am moving a bunch of stuff around for some new office furniture to arrive and haven't gotten a permanent desk configuration figured out just the way I want it yet. At one point this evening while investigating this I looked over and saw a different fucking picture on the other monitor, which that is not supposed to be able to happen at all. whatever is on one monitor is on the other - my laptop won't even recognize this cheapo monitor for a dual-screen display.
It scared me so badly I took a photo...That's a different picture of the cat on my laptop screen. It's sticking it's tongue out....
What in the world is going on here?
Finally, I decided to try scrolling up and down really fast again, this time with my right hand on the mouse wheel and my left hand holding my phone. I would hold down the camera button while scrolling; my phone has a feature where if you hold the button on the side in camera mode it takes multiple images back to back in rapid succession until you release it.
This image is one of those photos.
I don't know what any of this means or why this is happening.
@zyclonPD - where did you get this image from? Anyone else please feel free to post any strange experiences they might have with this seemingly haunted .gif that seems to change and behave however it wants. I am pretty creeped out...
