Disaster The head of the UN calls out /pol/, stormfront, and the daily stormer - Talks about how evil it is that the Internet is Free, wants it to be controlled

In the year 2000 the UN created the
Millennium Development Goals( mdg) a set of 8 goals to achieve by 2015

Meanwhile In 2017

UN: Reeeeeeeeeeee Internet trolls Reeeeeeeeeee Israel Reeeeeeee

Funny you mention the Millenium Development Goals.

Eritrea has achieved significant improvements in health care and is one of the few countries to be on target to meet its Millennium Development Goals (MDG) for health, in particular child health.[141] Life expectancy at birth increased from 39.1 in 1960 to 59.5 years in 2008; maternal and child mortality rates dropped dramatically and the health infrastructure expanded.[141]

But scroll up one section on that Wikipedia article, and you see:

In its 2014 Press Freedom Index, Reporters Without Borders ranked the media environment in Eritrea at the very bottom of a list of 178 countries, just below totalitarian North Korea.[137] According to the BBC, "Eritrea is the only African country to have no privately owned news media",[138] and Reporters Without Borders said of the public media, "[they] do nothing but relay the regime's belligerent and ultra-nationalist discourse. ... Not a single [foreign correspondent] now lives in Asmara."[139] The state-owned news agency censors news about external events.[140] Independent media have been banned since 2001.[140] The Eritrean authorities had reportedly imprisoned the third highest number journalists after China and Iran.[120]

This suggests something about how the United Nations works and thinks. Remember that Eritrea is also a major source of refugees, since according to a resolution the UN vetoed, Eritrea enslaves hundreds of thousands of people and has security forces who regularly torture and rape its citizens. Yet Eritrea is rarely condemned at the United Nations.

Meanwhile, the United States is the Great Satan who tolerates the evil dwellers of /pol/ persecuting brave feminists like Anita Sarkeesian and courageous civil rights movements like BLM in the name of Pepe the Frog, and Israel is the Lesser Satan for getting a bit pissy about Arabs throwing stones at soldiers and saying that all Jews need to die.

Shit like this is yet another reason why Obama should never have handed the DNS registry over to ICANN and out of US control. The UN has been itching to get control of ICANN for years.

It's only the single most important technological innovation of the past 50 years, I'm super glad we handed part of it over to a bureaucracy of 3rd world idiots who had absolutely no role in its creation!

ICANN is a nonprofit corporation still based in California and thus must abide by California and US law when it comes to 1st amendment speech protections. However, there is still the very real possibility of a hostile takeover by agents of foreign governments, who could choose to move ICANN anywhere they want if they get the majority of board seats. Also, seeing how much the California State Government hates Trump, I could totally see them dumping the laws protecting ICANN because they trust the UN ITU body more than the racist Fascist DRUMPH Junta. Twitter, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Facebook are already banning dissident voices from their services in China, Russia,Belarus,Turkey, etc to appease the local Totalitarian Regimes. They stand for nothing other than their next potential stock evaluations.

I'm sorry for potentially A-LOGGING here but there was a time that American Tech Corporations took pride in promoting our national Interest. RCA, built into a technological behemoth by David Sarnoff (and Edwin Howard Armstrong, who invented the regen, superhet, and FM radio that Sarnoff befriended, fucked over and drove to suicide in 1954) a russian jewish kid that started out selling newspapers in brooklyn and ended up running the corporation that helped the allies win WWII with UHF technology and developed the first practical black and white TV standard in 1939 and a Color TV standard that was fully backwards compatible with the 1939 standard and adopted as NTSC in 1954. Europe didn't get Color TV until the late 60's-Mid 70s. RCA system black and white TV came online in 1939, In 1954 it got Color, And we finally shut it off in favor of digital TV in 2010. During that time, Every TV sold in America, wether it was made in 1948 or 2008, black and white, or Color, could receive the same programming in equal quality, over the air with an antenna on the roof.

I also need to mention the contributions of Bell Labs, ATT Long Lines Coast to Coast 50Mbit microwave network in 1948, General Electric, Zenith and Motorola.

To be fair, there was a method to his madness. He wanted to shut the ITU (another UN agency, of course) up by denying them another way to bash the US and a justification for domestic internet censorship?
Was it with it? Was it even a good move at the time? Probably not, but he wasn't insane.

In some way, you could say the 20th Century truly was The American Century.

If /pol/ wants to get the UN off their back, they should just enslave some women and treat them like animals and start slaughtering people who don't believe in the correct religion. Then /pol/ will be applauded and put in charge of the human rights council.

The UNs peace keeping forces are too busy raping starving children and setting up child porn networks for them to do anything about it.

Also ICANN was handed over because Russia and China were threatening to make their own networks outside of US controls. It would have fractured the net.

Reactions: Incredible Crisis
Two euros did a report/study/paper on /pol/ with a roughly $50,000 equivalent grant back in 2016, you can find it here: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1610.03452v1.pdf I guess they're finally mobilizing to neutralize the threat? LMAO

It even features a 3 page appendix of common-to-rare pepes for the beginning collector. It's quite a read :story:

7. CONCLUSION
This paper presented the first large-scale study of /pol/, 4chan’s politically incorrect board. We provided a general characterization, which compared activity on /pol/ to two other boards on 4chan, /sp/ (“sports”) and /int/ (“international”). We first showed that each of the boards has different behavior with respect to thread creation and posts. In particularly, we looked into the impact of 4chan’s “bump limit” system on discourse, finding that it does indeed seem to result in “fresh” content on a consistent basis. We made use of the “flag” feature present on the three boards we examined to get an idea on the demographics of users, finding that while in absolute numbers Americans dominate the conversation, many other countries (both native English speaking and not) are well represented in terms of per-capita. We also showed differences in the “maturity” of threads with respect to moderator actions across the boards in our dataset.

We next examined the content posted to /pol/. We first found that, by far, the majority of links posted to 4chan are to YouTube. We also saw that /pol/ posts many more links to tabloid or questionable news outlets then main stream media sites. This is somewhat expected considering /pol/’s alt-right leanings. By looking at meta data associated with posted images we learned that most content on 4chan is reasonably unique: 70% of the 1M unique images in our dataset were posted only once and 95% were posted less than 5 times. /pol/’s ability to find and/or produce original content is likely one of the reasons it is thought to be at the center of hate on the Internet.

Finally, we studied raiding behavior via a quantitative case study of “Operation Google” as well looking for evidence of /pol/’s impact on YouTube comments. Although the impact of Operation Google on /pol/ itself was substantial, we found little evidence that it has spread to Twitter. However, we did find ample evidence of raiding activity on YouTube.

When looking for peaks of commenting activity on YouTube we discovered that they tend to occur within the lifetime of the thread they were posted to on /pol/. Because YouTube and 4chan are completely separate platforms, we would expect to see that some of these activity peaks are background noise. However, we were able to filter out this background noise by using cross-correlation to estimate the synchronization lag between the /pol/ thread and the YouTube comments. Finally, we showed that as this synchronization lag approaches zero, there is a statistically significant increase in the number of hate words on YouTube. I.e., we provide quantitative evidence for raiding behavior.

Bell Labs also gave us the laser, the transistor, C and Unix.
And yet people cried MONOPOLY and so the heavy, dependable service was completely dismantled for good. :-(

And then they got rammed into the ground thanks to Carly Fiorina, who later went on to make her mark at HP with a failed merger and outsourcing numerous people there.

To be fair, they strictly controlled the number of phone lines you were allowed to have. You couldn't even set up a second line in your house that was connected to the first without MaBell's permission and their techs.

If they hadn't gripped down so tightly on the end consumer product people probably wouldn't have been so irritated by them.

I don't think we'd even have cell phones that weren't the size of a brick without breaking them up.
