The Rebirth series is basically the original PS3 versions of the game updated with a better engine and less asinine gameplay mechanics and script translations.

This is partially for licensing reasons, as Idea Factory used to have their games published through NIS (the same company that does Disgaea), but they had a falling out and went their separate ways, so they had to retool the series to not only redo the script, but to also excise NIS specific characters like Nisa, whom they couldn't use anymore since they no longer had the rights to use her character.

The other reason is that the gameplay for the originals is frankly shit. The originals were made on even less money than they currently are, and the gameplay was made when they weren't sure what the hell they were doing, so the Rebirth series takes everything they did around the time the figured out how make a competent game engine and just polishes it further.

Megadimension is basically Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory II, and since the first three games are remakes of the PS3 games, it has no Rebirth in the title because it's an original sequel to the third game, with was Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory (aka Rebirth 3: V Generation for the remake)

It's worth noting there is a little bit of autismal bullshit over the originals versus the remakes, since some fans liked the NIS specific stuff and translations, and sometimes they'll get into stupid catfights over whether the Rebirth games are better or worse for their absence.

I wouldn't be able to tell you for certain, considering the Mega Drive sold least well of the 4th gen consoles in Japan, but it may be a combination of nostalgia and Sega's persistence in the Japanese arcade and software scene. Sega also has their own Sega Hard Girls series with a similar console-tan anthropomorphization theme. Unsurprisingly, it's had a crossover with Neptunia.

Also the Xbox has it's own nepnep and that sells like shit in Japan. So I guess anything goes in the world of titty consoles.

That scene is when Trick is perving on Rom and Ram, and it's not played up for humor or perversion. Rather, it's treated as disgusting and all the characters, Rom and Ram especially, want to kill the fucker for it.

That's why I started this thread. Sometimes you need to have seen the lair of the beast in order to expose it's true monstrousness, and if this results in a lot of sick fucks and creeps in that fandom being called out for their sick shit, I can live with that.

IIRC, the Xbox 360 had a small fanbase in Japan, partially due to Oblivion being suprisingly popular there, and the fact that it had not yet been released on PS3 at the time, but yeah, generally Xbox performs like shit overseas.
