A media processing server would be very handy right about now, as in the fishtank thread where there are clips being posted all the time, there have been multiple instances of clips by multiple users that are not able to be viewed on Firefox. I do not fault the original uploaders, as re-encoding stuff is a pain and I only understand the basics.

For example, a 25 second video was posted that took half a gigabyte and on top of that, it could only be viewed in Chromium based browsers. It was using both a weird video codec and had like 6 different audio streams. After it was re-encoded with ffmpeg to standard h264 it dropped down to under 50mb. There are also archived videos (especially in the Iran war thread) that have strange timecodes or formats - e.g. the length of the video starts at like 2 seconds, then it jumps to 8, then 11, then the full 19s.

Badly encoded video (will not play on firefox, 451mb):

Well encoded video (plays everywhere, 40mb):

Unrelated, but when someone posts a xitter link, maybe you could make an embedded automated tool to screenshot the post and insert it? The auto thumbnailing feature for images has been great so far as it makes pasting in images effortless. I strongly believe the same needs to happen for xitter links, as sometimes the posts just get deleted but mostly its just annoying to visit the original xitter posts when I just want to view the content here while scrolling.
Either prompt users to visit the link and archive it locally themselves or have it automatically insert an image of the post using a nitter API or something.

Who posted a 30 second video that was 500 megs????!?!!?

The form needs to stop allowing video uploads that are less than 100mb/min or something. Maybe an automated posting ban for a few hours or something for repeat attempts. Jesus.

Would be nice but I doubt it's feasible without a lot of upkeep. Maybe through xcancel.com ? You already considered that.
