The Kpop thread. - LEGGO

Idle dropped a pre-release clip that's like half of one of the b-sides:

I actually like the sound of this one, it's atmospheric and gives their voices space to shine.
I really hope the title track this time around is decent too, I was not a fan of Tomboy at all. Someone urgently needs to stop Soyeon from writing cringe ass English lyrics or at least hire a co-writer who isn't ESL.

CLASS:y recently released a mini album and I have been addicted to it. I especially love Zealous. The suit dance makes it even better.

I enjoyed this mini too - Zealous is not an extraordinary song for me, but it's suitably fun and catchy.

I also really love these suit dance performances - personally I love more "fierce/masculine" choreographies for girlgroups, and those go great with suits, especially considering how most idols have a very slim, athletic bodytype.

They also did one of those '1theK It's Live' performances for Zealous, which I like to see - it's a shame how there's less and less live vocals on music shows these days (I still remember TaeTiSeo singing their hearts out on Mnet), but at least formats like that are there to pick up the slack. Vocal skills don't even matter that much to me compared to the energy - there's a charm to even average live singing that a lip-synced or heavily backtracked performance just doesn't have.

On a different note, I recently discovered that Yezi (of Fiestar and Unpretty Rapstar fame) apparently did an informal cover of Gwangil Jo's awesome khiphop track 곡예사/Acrobat, and did a really nice job with it. Her own songs are decent, but so far none of them have really clicked with me, and I hope she releases something in the future that does, because she's undeniably quite talented and versatile.

As you all probably know, NewJeans recently got #1 trending on Youtube and Twitter with their new single. OMG.

BTS must've made BigHit some serious F U money considering they are pulling in top Korean actors just for bit parts in NewJeans MV's. As well as roping in one of the most highly regarded film companies in SK for a pre-release MV.

NewJeans CEO I think has a real nostalgia for late 90's early 2000's music and style. Kinda gives me H.O.T. vibes

I feel OMGs musical structure is kinda genius. I suspect their CEO must've thought that too considering she took the job entirely to create this very group.

I am sick of kpop i have planned to bomb BTS headquarters come july 4th 2023 5:30 PM i will save the world from the kpop devil

lol i can undertand that,. Since my parents whould play all the shit they liked when I was younger and it just became insufferable to me despite it's actual quality.

I like twice and itzy.

Besides that I ain't know shit about this genre besides the corps treat their idols like slaves and the stans are insane

I'm not very into K-pop, so I have never heard of this guy before. But I do have noticed Versace patterns several times from concerts. But lol, they couldn't even dress him properly (its from a newsletter email). They couldn't even use one of the silk shirt + shorts that actually has one of the patterns that radiates the resemblance of the brand.

The brand has gone downhill since Giovanni died, and it was sold off to Michael Kors in 2019. The brand is just beating a dead horse by this point, and it's hard to understand why someone would have them as a sponsor. Because it's highly unlikely this is going to make Versace hip with the zoomers. As their tries on making anything not Versace style aka "modern", look either bland or like utter shit. Oh well, at least, their perfumes do okay. Except they smell like shit. If you have smelled Dior's or Chanel's, which is at the same fucking price point (lower end offerings). Aka, they only do well for the normies that don't know any better.

The only reason luxury brands sign kpop idols for sponsorships are for social media numbers, a cheap way to look like they're relevant to a demographic that is several generations younger than their actual clientele to press and investors. I don't know who that guy is, but I would sincerely doubt 0.01% of his fanbase can even afford to buy a single item he models.

"huh, I wonder if there is a kpop thread on here, I never thought to check"
global search for "aespa"
"oh it exists but it's totally dead"

Guess I'll have to stick to kpop posting with underage b& SEAmonkeys on reddit and twitter :/

KPOP can produce some nice songs here and there. The issue for me is the big focus on singles. And since I tend to listen to entire LP's most of the time, I rarely pay attention to new releases. And I don't really have any particular artists I follow. Every couple of weeks I go through some best new KPOP songs list and see if there is anything interesting.

Wonder Girls "Reboot" is a pretty decent LP, all things considered.

Been addicted to Magnetic by the new group ILLIT. Will definitely follow them. The debut-single is already #16 on Global Spotify right after release.

Their best song was definitely Kpopalypse’s pick, Chocolate Love. It’s more cohesive and interesting than the f(x) version.

Honestly most of the classic era SNSD songs (2007-2010) were great. I think the only songs I didn't like were Hoot! and Bad Girl.
Chocolate Love takes me back to college man. Holy shit the nostalgia.

“Hoot!” should’ve been so much better with its James Bond-type style. Ironically, Ladies’ Code’s “Bad Girl” is what “Hoot!” should’ve been.

And yes, SNSD were a great group. RIP Jessica.
