The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Review embargo has now slightly lifted for those with first impressions access to the game, and IMMEDIATELY there's problems.

First off, all of the new articles are taking great care to avoid talking about gameplay, story, or anything tangible and are instead talking about the graphics and how the game has over "60 accessibility features", features that they then don't go on to list. And these articles are all coming out within hours of each other, sometimes even spamming the same shit over and over and over again, nearly word-for-word. And if that wasn't enough to make you wary of this game's impending reception: all of their comments sections in these articles have been immediately opened and closed upon being made, at Naughty Dog's request. With some just wholesale ripping off Digital Foundry's video and completely misrepresenting the video's points (to give one example: how they said the lighting was great...even though they didn't and was one of the main problems both DF and their comments section pointed out), and others just copying what's being said in other articles that are being released, like one big incestuous journalist stew.

Also at Naughty Dog's request, the Washington Post pointed out that they were only allowed to review the 2-hour portion that was only seen in the "never-before-seen" gameplay trailer from the State of Play (i.e. they were only allowed to spend two hours in that single area alone from the demo, and weren't allowed to progress anywhere else) and are only able to write about that section in this specific article and must not release anything else under any circumstances: a rule that was apparently also given out to the other reviewers of this game listed above. And they are to stay this way until their final reviews (which are already written up) are able to be released on the 12th.
This shouldn't really shock anyone, they're in massive damage control mode still and payola is no doubt being slid under tables. I mean fuck if you watch the Easy Allies preview they recently put out it sounds like a straight up infomercial and wouldn't you know it they got the guy who jerks off every game under the sun to review it.

Every day we get closer to Troy Baker's mental breakdown.

Remember this?
"It was toward the end of production when we shot that scene, and the mistake I made is that I prepped him for hit. I told him, we’re going to do this really heavy scene, it’s going to be your daughter dying and stuff, and I built it up so much that when it came time to shoot it, it was just so big. His reaction to it was just so big, I was having a difficult time bringing him down.
We went in circles a little bit, and then by the end we’d done I think eight or nine takes, and I was like, okay we got it. It came down to a point where I felt like we had it. Maybe not in a single take, but I felt like we could cobble something together. And then we did, and I was looking at it with our editor and our cinematographer, and it’s just not there. It was like, it works and it’s a better scene than I’ve seen in most games and I think most people would feel for the daughter, but something about it just didn’t feel right. I felt like we could do more with less.
Troy invested so much of himself into that scene. Between takes, he’s really crying and he’d have to leave for a few minutes and come back, and the girl that was playing it, Hana, every take she’s fully crying. If you watch the behind-the-scenes video, you will cry just watching them, it was so intense. It was so intense that we had a stunt guy on the set who said, I can’t watch this anymore, and he walked off the set. He was like, I can’t watch another take of this.
So I’m shooting some other scenes with Troy and I don’t know how to break this to him because he’s sure this is his best performance ever, and I’m like, remember that scene with Sarah dying? He’s like, yeah, and I said, we’re going to reshoot it. We’re so sarcastic around the office that we have this gesture to say we’re serious [Druckmann wags fist with thumb and pinky extended]. So I tell him we’re going to reshoot the scene and he looks at me and does the gesture, like he’s silently asking, are you serious? And he’s like, no, fuck you. And I’m like, no we need to do it. And he says, why? I’m like, well I feel like we can do something better. So at this point he’s upset, he’s visibly upset with me. And he’s like, dude, we can’t, it’s so good. And I tell him, it could be better.
So we schedule everybody to come in and reshoot it and he’s just pissed off at me. We do a few takes and he’s, again, throwing everything he has into it and I’m trying to get him to forget what you think this scene should look like. It doesn’t need to be big, and I try to tell him, don’t think of it as your daughter, think of it as your best friend, it just happened to your best friend. And he’s like, that’s stupid. And I can’t get him to get in that space so, eventually, I just tell him, here are the things you need to do: I want you to walk over to her, don’t worry about emotions at all, just walk over to her, check her wound, calm her down, whatever you need to do to calm her down, start picking her up, look around to decide where you’re going to go next. It became very mechanical in that way. Just think about the next step you have to take. And then we got it. It was this really beautiful, subtle and – I felt like – really honest performance.

He's definitely gonna need therapy after this one. Maybe then it will finally open up new opportunities for new VA's and underutilized actors.

TBH this dumb virtue signaling might end up hurting Sony, Microsoft has been talking about the series X for months now and 2020's halfway through and we still don't know what the PS5 even looks like. That's not even counting if public opinion sours against the rioters.

As little as Sony has shown off, MS hasn't done much better. We still still haven't gotten solid specs, gameplay footage, or a price for either console. Sony showed off a controller, MS a box, and both confirmed BC for the previous console. That's fucking it.

So Cuckmann is also aping John K.'s style of abusive hack bullshit too. What a subhuman specimen.

Sony shut down mere photos of Hong Kong protests but they want to make a song and dance about this, this MUST BE HEARD but Hong Kong getting curbstomped must be actively silenced.
As others on this forum keep saying these so called "woke" assholes don't actually give a shit about any of this. It's cynical insincere PR for gullible social media addicts.

The very instant this fauxtivism starts hurting the bottom line they'll drop it like a bad habit. Hell they don't even pretend to give a shit about HK anymore after all the feeble mewling they did about how they totally cared months ago.

We have final specs for both machines, what are you talking about?

Imagine making your actors do nine takes of a scene that they clearly find emotionally taxing, then making them come in and do it again because "it's good, but it could be better." What a pretentious jackass.

It might just be me, but this part kinda gets me. You need to physically signal when you're being serious? I get that just because it's a work environment it can't be fun and cool but needing a goddamn hand gesture to say that you're serious makes me wonder how much they take work seriously.

That 30-sec TV spot is unironically the best thing I've seen of the game so far and it's not even the actual game.
Because it feels like an ACTUAL survival horror for once. Look at how terrified and helpless Ellie looks. Look at the visible tears in her eyes. That's how she was supposed to be, not a psycho pissed off badass Druckmann wants her to be.

Also notice how they made her look less buff and more feminine and gave her actual defined breasts lmao

Druckmann definitely wasn't involved in making this

It reads to me like a very toxic work environment.

70% of their employees quit citing how toxic the workplace was, how they were always on edge about maybe committing the crime of wrongthink, if they didn't have the right level of performative outrage over the woke issue of the minute.

The game is being finished by woke interns with zero experience and I'd be shocked if that doesn't show through in the game.

Troy Baker has always been up his ass. He wants to be seen as a great actor but it's not going to happen doing video games.

lmao Druckmann's copying from the George Lucas school of actor directing. I expect a noticeable downgrade in actor performances across the board.

It's obvious at this point that Druckmann is a sadist who just likes to make people suffer. The employees, the fictional characters, and even the players. There's a thin justification of artiness, but since he can't even come up with anything more original than a basic bitch "cycle of violence " story, I doubt that's the real motivation. There are probably a lot of Hollywood directors and wannabe-directors who use their occupation as a cover for the same sort of shit for personal gratification in the same way. Anyone who is or wants to be a movie director should be regarded with suspicion at this point.

He used to do a let's play channel with Nolan North but he left a couple of months back to "save their friendship" or some shit. Apparently he wanted to branch out and do more shit but Nolan just wanted to do let's plays. I've seen a lot of comments saying that Troy would treat it like a podcast, talking over the game while Nolan played and that it's better now with just Nolan. I tried watching it once, I stopped after like three seconds because the video started with Troy doing the whole "I'm singing what I'm saying to seem cool and random" thing.

Honestly, I stopped taking Troy seriously after his wife gave birth and he posted something on Instagram about how there's "no greater power on earth than a woman in labor".

Also, they named their son Traveller.

Fucking Traveller.
