If anything, they made the Fireflies look MORE shitty in the show, because Ellie was awake when they got there, they lied to her about what they were gonna do, and then drugged her without her consent.
See, that's how Cuckmann operates with all of his dates so he thinks it's perfectly natural behavior. It doesn't dawn on him or his cronies that it's not a good look.
Exactly, Joel did nothing wrong because it was theoretical bullshit looking good on paper maybe.
Yet this series is just not smart enough fot that, the way it's constructed is to make Joel look emotinally fragile and guilty.
Yeeah one of those series the more i think about the more flaws i spot.
If the Sonic movie duology is, so far, better than either the games themselves and/or most other blockbuster movies in the modern age, you know you've fucked up.
Tom Holland as Drake is one of the worst casting decisons ever it was such a laughable representation of the character that im suprised it isn't talked about more. Oh let's take this gigachad and have him played by a guy that makes Linus techtips seem swole!

Tom Holland is to Nathan Drake the same way Kristin Kreuk is to Chun-Li or Alicia Vikander is to Lara Croft. It's just out-of-touch corpo boomers from Hollywood assuming that these stars are suited for these respective roles.

It was theoretical and he could be losing his surrogate daughter on a theory. And the game shows the world wasn't worth saving even if it was a guarantee. The entire country is filled with crazy hunters who kill for sport and cannibals.
It's why I love the ending so much. Joel coldly kills Marlene since he chose her over the the world.
I don't know if anyone has posted something similar, but a friend of mine brought this detail to my attention recently...
In light of how Cuckmann has ret-conned the OG from the TV show, the ending of TLUO Part II starts to make sense, but in a very bizarre fashion:
The Joel memory at the end of TLUO Part II is inevitably what leads Ellie to spare Abby. A lot of folks look at the circumstances and don't really get why she would spend so much effort to hunt Abby down only to let her go, but this is the answer:
Under Cuckmann's direction, Joel is being written as essentially irredeemable. The reason why Ellie lets Abby go is that she realizes Joel wasn't worth the revenge. Is that obvious? No, because nobody in their right mind thinks that way. Unfortunately, Cuckmann is, decidedly, not someone who seems to adopt a right state of mind. Joel felt no remorse for taking away Ellie's "chance for her life to mean something." Joel even says he would do it again. Cuckmann roots Joel's objectification of Ellie through his "toxic masculinity." This means is Ellie means nothing to Joel aside being a "second chance."
That's how Cuckmann sees Joel. Not as a father protecting his daughter, but as some male driven by irrational hormones.
Ultimately, Cuckmann is trying to create values shaped by his inane ideology. What's ironic about the show is Cuckmann wants to depict Christians as being villains, yet he also depicts the firefly society offering up a little girl's as a sacrifice to cure society's ills as being a good thing. In reality, nobody with sound mind and heart would ever look at Joel's actions as being inherently wrong. In fact, the opposite is true: he didn't just save Ellie for himself, he did so because it was the right thing to do. Even if humanity turned out to be screwed because Ellie wasn't sacrificed, that doesn't change anything--saving Ellie was always going to be the only choice. Joel didn't even need to think. He acted. That's what a real man does.
The message is clear: the state (i.e. ESG) is the most important thing. All competition must be therefore be abolished which means the only way to completely change society is to destroy the most important civil society institution: the family (i.e. Joel). Cuckmann is just another Commie pushing his Marxist tripe onto the plebs and he road the back of a popular video game franchise to do it.
They all but outright say it in the "Inside the Episode" video when it gets to the hospital segment:
Druckmann: "We've seen Joel kill. We've seen him lose loved ones. So, how do you take that any further? What if it's between saving all of humanity or this one girl? It's the easiest choice he's ever made in his life."
Pascal: "What would make one choose one thing over the survival of humanity, essentially. Which is something that he does, because he finds himself incapable of losing again."
Dandridge: "The parking garage is the last shot. It's the last opportunity to save what Ellie can gift the world. Joel, he is wrestling with his grief, and he can't see past it."
Ramsey: "She knows deep down that he's not telling the truth, but she can't let herself believe it because it's too painful and it's too scary, the idea that her only purpose in life hasn't been fulfilled. That that had been taken away from her by the person she loves and trusts the most is too overwhelming. So she forces herself to believe Joel."
Thing is that Neil does care. From what I heard he threw a fit over people making tranny memes and tranny porn of Abby as he views the character as his "dream girl" and didn't like people calling her a tranny or a man. There is also a clip of him looking dejected and holding back simmering rage over the fact that Elden Ring beat TLoU2 for most awarded video game of all time and people praising Miyazaki as the greatest video game director of the modern age instead of him. This man is a narcissist who can not deal with criticism or not being praised as the greatest creative since Tolkien.
Indeed. He would have to do what Justin Roiland (another member of the tribe) did. The tribe and Hollywood will allow him to molest as many underage girls and women as he wants which he probably is doing given his disgusting fetishes. It is once he is no longer of usefulness to the tribe and Hollywood or if his victims get very public with the abuse they suffered at his hands will he be dropped.

Then he is decidedly against his own tactics of societal devolution? Or is he just picking and choosing?
He can't have it both ways.
After all, folks of his ilk are the same ones organizing their special lectures in schools or printing literature and distributing other material meant to ‘instruct’ children about concepts such as "free love" and the nature of sexual intercourse. Hell, how many sympathetic characters in Cuckmann's fantasy are only depicted as sympathetic due the fact that they're fags or troons? Cuckmann is making his bed with the same folks who are trying to dismantle the family code--the same people who are trying to make monogamy an outdated concept. Basically, the guy wants the people engaging in his product to ignore all precepts of morality except a few particulates that he picks and chooses.
It's like tearing down the foundations of your house, while also admonishing your guests to wipe their feet before coming through the door.

Here is the thing about Cuckmann and the small hat tribe. They would love nothing more than for every game, now and forever, to be just like TLoU2. Games that are cinematic walking sims that do nothing but lecture you, are chalk full of diversity and inclusion, do nothing but promote progressive lifestyles while tearing down men and the nuclear family and of course games shouldn't be fun. The goy shouldn't be allowed to have fun. They should feel miserable for being white, male, and Christian and need to be lectured in order to brainwash change their nature.
That all changed when Elden Ring won the most awards out of any game in history. Neil and the small hat tribe ended up eating a whole lot of humble pie over that. They realized that the goy don't want their lecturing and misery porn. They want to have fun. As we have been saying in the Autistic Thunderdome, all Neil and the small hat tribe had to do was keep the Bread and Circuses running and the cattle happy. But no, they wanted to change the world and make the bread be bugs and the circuses be filled with fat women and trannies. They are learning the hard way and I for one am fucking loving it.
I didn't watch the show because the main things I know about TLOU is that Druckman is a faggot and the whole TLOU2 shitshow, not to mention this screamed goyslop from the start. But what I would like to ask is: why did you watch it? I mean, the HBO seal of approval hasn't meant much for a while now, so really, why?
I am fascinated by people who ostensibly hate woke adaptations and remakes, and complain about their ubiquity on social media, and yet there they are tuning in to the latest and greatest entertainment product every week without fail. I observed this happening with Rings of Power, TLOU, and countless others. Hatewatching is still watching. At least the soyjak soyjakin' to the latest hecking gay interracial love scene from HBO's TLOU is having fun.
Isn't indifference the most damning thing you can give to these bad/pozzed entertainment products? They count on your hatewatching/morbid curiosity to drum up those views as much as they depend on the consoomers who tune in just to spite you or who watch whatever the NYT culture section tells them to. It might even wear down your standards to the point you start to like it if Mike & Rich from RLM's latest take on the new season of Picard is any indication.
Edit: I'm also surprised that the gay episode wasn't written by a woman based on what my friend who watched the show said. It sounded like a very idealized and unrealistic depiction of gay relationships. It makes me think of that bit from a MATI stream about the FtM trannies who transition because of their gay fujo fetish and then are utterly repulsed by the actual behaviors of gay men irl.
Agreefully with this... is what I would love to say, but you fuckers hate warching allows me to enjoy shitshows like this without watching a second. But yeah, realistically apathy is how you kill this shit, not by hatewatching and bitching about it.
Seeing how without an apocolypse we have already gone into "give the kid gender affirning hormones, it will be fine" day 1, I'd say you have a very optimistic opinion on the medical profesionals and that your average consuuumer will see an issue with it.
Also
@Rusty Cheeseknifehe also depicts the firefly society offering up a little girl's as a sacrifice to cure society's ills as being a good thing
When you are a devout member of the cult of Moloch that shit is just common sense.
Bit of a derail, and sorry if this was already posted. I came across this video about TLoU2 that goes into the problems with the story outside the often talked about scenes.
I know Kneel talked about not changing anything in the next season. But I doubt theyll keep the part where Abby was chomping at the bit to blow a pregnant womans brains out.
I watched "I Saw the Devil" last week and good god. Encountering a good revenge story just makes what Kneel created look even worse

They have the chance to make TLOU2 actually make sense, which is why the left those nurses alive, audiences will probably eat it up because TLOU2 lovers seem to have fully fallen in line that "Joel is a total piece of shit" as if what he became was not needed to survive.
It depends on if the normies are okay with Pedro biting it. From what I understand, Ellie in the show doesn't have that great of a draw and does sort of turn people off a bit. It does have bit characters people like, but the thing is Cuckman usually kills them or puts them in the back.
So I kind of expect the season they cover Abby will be disliked. I could be wrong, but people tend to not like watching that sort of shit.

It will be hilarious if they go 1 to 1 scenes for TLOU2 and everyone starts complaining about the show going woke and Abby doesn't make sense and all that. All the warnings in the world are in the show.
It's kind of funny since most people watching are watching for Pedro pascal and seeing him get the GoT treatment from a troon and then Ellie going 'naw I ain't going to kill you because revenge is bad mkay' is going to be hysterical
I legit dont expect the same kind of backlash. For real, I dont. Gamers are far more invested in their medium than series watching audiences, not to say that you cant be as invested in a series but the majority of people do not.
Worst case scenario they will do what the "so invested" audience in the Truman Show did once it went out the air, they just gave an apathy shrug and asked what else is on. But a significant number will still keep watching to witness the pretty colours. There wont be much of a backlash in my opinion since they were never as invested, coupled with the fact that this is hardly the best version of these characters.
This series is meant for normies who never played (and never will) the original game and might even look down on gaming as a medium as "kids shit".
Lefitsts are obssessed with that concept, "purpose"
They always dread the fact that they have no purpose and that they are existentially pointless since they look down on religion so they believe purpose is something you gotta have so your existence was worth something. As if to say Ellie's life has a single purpose and that is to die for humanity's sake in that hospital bed and Joel "denied" her that for his own selfish purposes...which is rich coming from a very ironically selfish argument.
They focus on Ellie's purpose rather than the benefits by themselves. Anything else is void. Her relationships and the people that care for her matter not. Hell, even if Ellie didnt want this, it probably wouldnt matter because these anti-natalist men children would still want for her to sacrifice herself for humanity because of "purpose".
They ignore that she has a "purpose" and it isnt tied to her immunity, she gave humanity back to Joel as he gave her a paternal figure. She completes him as he completes her.
Humans dont have a purpose and that somehow is a bad thing to many. Are you aware that humans evolved beyond the need of one? We exist the way we want to do so. You CAN however "give" yourself a purpose, sure, but that is still ultimately your choice, your free will.
We arent animals that have the purpose to just eat, breed and die. Or eletronics that have the purpose to serve and then break apart.
We can build, we can dream, we can explore. We have this gift that is treated as a curse by those that fear it because it means they gotta take some sort of fucking responsibility.
In the end, it is the people that you love and love you back that are the closest thing to "purpose" because they will always do what Joel did and fight off entire militias if it means rescuing you.
Humanity didnt own shit to Ellie and she owned even less to humanity and Joel knew of that fact.
This, something that at least the original game wanted to send across was...the cure wasnt necessary at this point. Humanity wouldnt go back to the way it was even if the fungus was suddenly gone.
Lets go with the best and I do mean BEST case scenario here. The Fireflies extract the cure, it works perfectly with no side effects whatsoever. Those that have it can breath spores and get bitten in non vital areas and be just fine.
Now the question is, now that the Fireflies were given an massive advantage over any other faction on the planet, does anyone think they will handle it responsibly? Does anyone legit think that this group of falliable human beings will find it in themselves to cure even their political enemies? I can understand raiders and cannibals not being in their list but there are many groups and communities out there that run just fine but arent the biggest fans of the Fireflies. Will they be excempt from the "To cure" list? And if they are, will they simply accept that sitting down and not try to take the cure by force or become subserviant to the Fireflies? Will the Fireflies not kind of go insane with this level of power they have over others? Make demands?
Lets assume the best of them and assume they cure everyone, what then? War, thats what. Humanity is fractured but now that the fungus isnt a major threat anymore so their leaders will all grow ambitious and will try to expand. Those that cant or simply dont want to will either be assimilated or "conquered". It will become a wild west/cold war in the best case scenario. And who knows what will come out of that, even in the best case scenario, it will lead into countless deaths.
Like it or not but the fungus keeps humanity from killing each other more than it normally out. Most of the major factions fight and kill each other while communities that just want to thrive and be left alone can just stay out of it.
Joel isnt stupid and probably knew that humanity didnt deserve a cure and, even if they got it, no way it would ever be handled responsibly. And if Ellie wasnt a selfish idiot, she would know that she should have at least a kid or two that might adquire her immunity and maybe, eventually, humanity might evolve itself to be naturally immune to the fungus after several generations.
They all do. The question is if he will become a pain in the ass hard enough for his elite buddies all mutally agree it isnt worth it keeping him around anymore, just look at Justin Roiland and how "suddenly" there are all these horror stories about him now.
They will gladly backstab each other if it benefits themselves.
My take for what it's worth on the game's ending in 2013 was that it was a dark, Twilight Zone esque twist, Joel's understandable paternal instinct prevents him from letting Ellie die, but dooms the human race as a consequence, a perfectly downbeat ending for a downbeat game.
While obviously I still sympathized with Joel, how could you not after playing the whole game? I think that was the intent, not that you were supposed to hate Joel or not understand why he did it, but it was a catch 22.

stopped at basically "it's all ok because joel bad/dumb and 'dooming humanity'". might get better but doubt it if that's what he starts with and don't really care anymore to find out.
reeks of "y'all just hating on mass effect 3 cuz shepard dies!!"

it's also why a part 2 is completely pointless (unless you're a sony exec and wants to milk the characters). there was enough ambiguity to leave a lasting impression, retconning/resolving that in either way was always dumb.

I actually posted in this thread a while back a photo I took of the 2012 TLOU Game Informer cover issue where the devs (including Druckmann iirc) more or less say the game is meant to be a standalone story, a palette cleanser after the Uncharted games and Naughty Dog stretching their creative legs with something bold, not the start of a new franchise.
Obviously they changed their minds, but the first game makes the most sense when treated as a standalone story, we never needed a sequel and I remember being surprised as hell when part II was announced with the return of Joel and Ellie.
