The Legend of Heroes Series - Possibly The Most Underrated JRPG Series

Big fucking oof.... I know fuck all about Kuro (and want to keep it that way) but did Kuro 1 also get a similar reception?
Kuro 1 reception was generally more positive I think, but still.

And the anime is about the anexation of Ambria, right? Pretty shit then due to plot, animation or both?
The North Ambria anime doesn't start until next year, I was referring to the Trails in the Sky anime which blows.

I wanna know do characters in Reverie get a good amount of screentime? People like Elle, Sara, Alisa, Sharon, Lloyd, Estelle, Schera, etc?

So I have Cold Steel 1 and 2 now but it seems like Azure is set before the Cold Steel games. Should I play it first?
I'd say it's slightly better to play Azure before Cold Steel 1 and 2 although I don't think it's necessary. They take place around the same time and each game will include some spoilers for the other. Cold steel are newer entries and they feel like games made after Azure/Zero. While they provide some background for the players who never played Crossbell saga, they seem to be made with an assumption that a part of players already knows the Crossbell story. I think you will get better idea about some events and characters if you play azure/zero first.

I would however, strongly recommend playing azure/zero before starting cold steel 3 and especially 4 though. These turn into autistic anime version of Marvel Endgame where you have 100 different characters from different entries running around and joining forces so you'll enjoy it more if you know these people.

Well that explains why I loved 1 and 2, got to 3 and found myself hitting a roadblock of interest. Seriously I have no goddamn idea what is happening half the time and do not find myself at all compelled to go back and play archaeologist with a bunch of the older titles.

Lloyd and Elie do. The rest? Not so much.

The game is divided into three 'routes' with Trails 3rd-style side stories/memories that flesh out some characters and details. But, the game mostly focuses on Lloyd and Rixia, Rean, and C, Swin, and Nadia, and Lapis - all the protags of the routes, basically.

This doesn't mean the ones you listed don't have satisfying moments or anything but the majority of characters play a bit part to justify being there for the final dungeons.

NISA's blatant lie that starting with Cold Steel 3 was perfectly fine still pissed me off. It breaks my heart that there are people out there who played it (and presumably 4) without experiencing Crossbell and Liberl first.

I'd honestly suggest you try to tough it out. Trails in the sky hasn't aged that badly and the steam version fast forward button will be your friend to get on with it. Also, it's not that hard to break the game in half and ignore most sidequests if you just want to keep things going.

I won't deny it isn't a huge investment but it's the most fulfillin gaming experience I've had in a very long time.

I never imagined how full of shit they were with that line till I hit 3. God forbid that was my first game, and reading some fucking cliffnotes would not do it any justice.

To be fair, companies kind of HAVE to say this in order to protect their end of ensuring sales.

They can't say 'Actually no, please buy XSEED's Cold Steel 1-2 releases, or XSEED's Trails in the Sky releases first' and risk people determining they either don't like the series (loss of sales) or taking their time with previous installments (loss of opening week sales).

They couldn't even suggest playing their own Crossbell games first either because, despite taking two perfectly acceptable scripts from GeofrontTeam (who also translated the extra EVO content for them), they just went ahead and changed most of the script anyway.

I don't blame them for the kabuki theater, but it can certainly generate a bit of a whiplash effect as well.

Also rest in peace for Daniel, thanks to them I could play zero without having to wait for the new release. Damn harsh to die so young.

Azure release on March 14. Reverie confirmed for "Summer 2023". There's a voice actor panel next week where they might announced a release date.

As much shit as people give NISA, getting three games the size of Trails out the door in under a year is commendable.

Was a little worried playing through the Cold Steel series before any of the other games would kill my enjoyment but i'm having a great time with Zero. After Cold Steel 2 read a real short synopsis of the other games, mostly to know who the hell those people were in the epilogue and prepare for 3 and 4, but managed to stay mostly spoiler free. Might try to get through the Liberl arc while waiting for Azure to release.

I blitzed through and 100%ed the original Trails in the Sky series, all Steam achievements unlocked. Also finished Trails from Zero last week, and I got most of the Steam achievements that don't require the mandatory second playthrough, so I'm taking a small amount of time to cool off before I go through it again. Love these games, the wait for Azure is gonna be a killer.

Also Tita/Tio are the best girls and my wives don't @ me

My copy of Azure arrived today but I'm doing a run through of SMT Nocturne (almost done), a playthrough of Suikoden 2, a playthrough of RPGTime (which is fun and creative) and Tactics Ogre arrived Tuesday. I am swamped.

Well, I just named my kitten Millium. After having owned her for a week and a half thinking she was a boy and having named her after Roddick from Star Ocean before my cousin whose a former vet checked and broke the news to me.

Playing Zero, I hope the game manages to reach the insanity you get in the previous titles sequels where your ornaments give ridiculous OP spells.
Also, I could use without the game constantly deep throating bracers for how perfect they are. I always thought they were just another adventure guild with some good and bad members.

And god damnit the hidden quests always annoy me because I need to choose to either follow a guide that spoils things or just hope I don't miss anything important and finishing the game without full Detective rank.

By the way, is Azure something to play before Cold Steel 3?
