The Legend of Heroes Series - Possibly The Most Underrated JRPG Series

Sara is playable from the first game onward tho lol.

It would have been fun having Sister Rosine be playable. Iirc she was originally going to (?)

I REALLY like Cold Steel 2, and I think it's one of the stronger entries, at least in a vacuum. But, the fact that you have to slog through CS1 to get to it, and the fact that CS3 and 4 are such a mixed bag really makes the entire arc seem like a bit of a write off just to out a villain they spent too much time hyping up for too little payoff. The voice acting, however; is something I have to disagree on. Pretty much everyone in the english cast delivers their lines with zero energy, or way too fucking much.

Also, yes, Emma absolutely makes more sense as the main love interest for Rean, I'm glad someone else noticed.

Up for pre-order in the usual places.

Still think Sarah should have only joined the party on special occasions...

Wouldn't have minded Rosine being playable, but no idea if she was ever intended. I mean, Schera ended up not being playable in Cold Steel and she had more weight of being usable.

Yeah, kind of forgot about the whole Osborne conclusion... I didn't hate it, but it certainly could have been better. I also only play on nipvoice, so don't know or care how good or bad the dub is. The US voice acting industry being full of cunts just gives me more reason to not bother.

A man of culture I see.

At least up to Steel 2 a recurring problem is that a lot of characters in the series feel disconnected from one another. Like the hero is the one linking everyone together and you can't really point to any kind of relation they have. I think at most you had some class prejudice in 1 which went away by the end. Having the ability to romance everyone is more to the game's detriment, it should just limit to few characters.

That Rean is also bland as fuck to make it easy to project into him doesn't help. He's a nice guy, but not a fountain of charisma that I could believe would get a huge loyal following.

I wish they added a partner system to make use of the massive cast, there's like 20 characters and only 4 are used (or really 3/2 depending on the amount of main characters).

I love CS 1 and 2 more than 3 and 4. I know that is an unpopular opinion. Though 3 and 4 have the best designs for Sara, Emma, Machias, Jusis, and all of the new class minus Altina.

Idk something about the towns in the first two games felt more authentic.

I'm still upset Trista is apparently absent from Reverie though apparently locations from the Crossbell arc and the first two CS games are aplenty in it. Yassss Nords

I'm seeing people in different sites saying Reverie is the weakest game alongside Sky 3 and the Kuro games. This is troubling. I am upset about Ries being apparently a forgettable character. Ugh. Love her and I screamed when she appeared in the wedding in CS4. Tho....from what I saw apparently Scarlet takes over the role of nun with Rosine. I assume she's like Eda from Black Lagoon.

I have 0 idea about the Kuro games, but Sky 3 is a banger, even though it was made with a shoe string budget and it shows. And Ries is perfectly fine, she's certainly more rounded than half of class 7. I expect Reverie to tie a lot of things with a neat little bow kind of like how Sky 3 did. As long as ti achieves that and sets up for Kuro, I'm fine.

EDIT: Also, does anybody know if Reverie uses a limited Bonding Point system? I played all of Cold Steel with NG+ saves to have infinite Bonding points and not have to save scum to see all the scenes, just wondering if I'll have to do that with Reverie again or not.

Sky 3 was pretty awesome. It was a lot of uninterrupted gameplay with you killing Satan or some shit and all the cast.

And all of the setup for Crossbell and Cold Steel that it made, playing everything in order was your first introduction to Osborne and Lechter (another character that later Cold Steel honestly dropped the ball on him with all the build up he had...) for example and Tia's little mecha project, all of Rene's backstory and Kevin was a great main character. And the OST is fantastic, it's the one I come back to most when I just want to put an ost as a whole in the background.

I've played kuro 1. I think it's a good step up from cold steel in terms of writing and van is a much more well defined character than Rean. That's all I'll say as I know most of you want as few actual story details as possible.

Thanks. Avoiding spoilers like the plague (waiting patiently for Reverie), have you also played Kuro 2? I've heard it's a pretty weak meandering entry, but would want to hear some more opinions. Also, is there a harem in Kuro? After Cold Steel and noticing how many characters got the shaft due to harem dynamics compared to how much better the Sky and Crossbell characters could develop I just want the main character to have a specific love interest and leave it at that.

Finally, the combat system changes from turn based to one of those weird hybrids? Is it similar to anything out there? Like FF7Remake or a Tales game?

Double post, but it's rained since the last post.

So, anybody hype for Reverie? This is the first day 1 purchase game for me of the year and everything in my backlog right now is to kind of pass the time till it releases (though Valkyrie Profile is being a very good game to keep me entertained in the meantime).

I'm replaying CS4 for the first time in preparation for Reverie. I was terribly underwhelmed by it the first time around, but Act I was way, way more kino than I remembered. The scenes in the Crossbell swamp and the final couple scenes in the Black Workshop are especially great. Like, I know that the only reason I feel that way is because they hose memberberries down your throat but I don't even care.

It was pure pandering and I will proudly admit I loved it. The assault with a bajillion characters was hype as fuck even if it was the most blatant fan service.
