The Legend of Heroes Series - Possibly The Most Underrated JRPG Series

I wasn't really feeling III and I can't figure out why...
I guess it was cause I was so used to the old class. And the town and students were better in my opinion. But it was nice seeing the grown up ones lol

Why do people hate IV though? I appreciate that it requires multiple playthroughs in that it depends on what characters you take you get different dialogue ala 2. That's one of the things I'd like in more rpg. I remember the part in Tales of Symphonia you could actually get Sheena early so that she could be there for the events in Palmacosta, and when you infiltrate the one ranch you choose which characters to go with you when you split in two teams.

People didn't like 4 because it's ending is in Trails into Reverie.

Okay I never thought I would say this but Sean Chiplock and Erica Lindbeck actually did a great job in IV.
God that leaves a bad taste in my mouth
they seem to have deepened their voices for once.

I'm still curious about something. I have Ys LoD for switch and the graphics are....choppy I guess? Not like smooth ps4 type or like how it is in Cold Steel. I'm wondering if the Cold Steel games on switch are like this too?

They run at 30 on Switch unlike on other platforms. Keep in mind the 30 fps in VIII means the game is actually piss easy due to the flash guard and dodge windows being twice the length, and outright becomes ridiculous with accessories that improve the two.

You don't even need that, you can farm stat potions real easily by killing dinosaurs and you can get your STR and HP maxed out to 99999 within an hour or two.

It's been a month and I'm still at a loss for words.
  1. NISA unironically bought the Geofront translation.
  2. They are releasing them separately.
  3. It's still going to take them two years to get them out the door.
  4. Hajimari is still two fucking years away.
  5. Two fucking years.
  6. They are unironically bringing over Nayuta.
  7. TWO FUCKING YEARS.
  8. Kuro is possibly like five years away.
It's like this godawful fever nightmare I can't wake up from.

Oh, hey! I didn't even know this board existed.

I am also still reeling over this. Two years for Hajimari is going to suck. But hopefully we'll get Kuro and its sequels in rapid succession like we did with CS3/4. Even if it will be 5 years. :/ But that does give me plenty of time to rope more people into the series and fill the void by living vicariously through their first playthroughs.

...Except Sky 1. I've played/seen it so many times I'm over it.

Oldfag here. These are The Legend of Heroes games I've played:

But y'all are making this new stuff sound intriguing. I have the PSP games so maybe I'll continue on with them.

Nice. If you're talking about the Gagharv games, I would skip them and go straight to Sky FC. The series is a huge investment (like a 500+ hour investment) but it's one hell of a great ride.

Oh wow. I've never gone back that far. I've played the Garghav trilogy, though. The PSP games I believe you're talking about. Unfortunately the English versions suffered from a horrid translation and kinda...sucked because of it. I can look past graphics and mechanics, but for the love of God would it have harmed the translation company to use contractions? Everyone felt so...stiff when they spoke.

IMO though, the new stuff is amazing and I highly recommend you play them when you get a chance.

Thanks dudes. I think I remember what turned me off from the PSP games in the first place.... they were localized in the "wrong order" right? I wasn't sure about playing order so I put everything on hold and now the games are just collecting dust.

Oh and you aren't missing too much by not playing those earliest two games. They're decent enough JRPGs, but pretty standard for the era. Falcom has MUCH better games on the PCE (Ys, Legend of Xanadu, Popful Mail).

The very first game was localized though. And the voice-acting, dudes. My God the voice acting......

Kuro got an 9/8/8/9 [34/40] in the latest Famitsu.

Also some new merch up for pre-order for any fellow consoomers who might be interested. Shipping is around £10 to US I believe.

Just to clarify something: The one who is responsible for the "bruh moment" line is not Scott, but Arvin (YourVinished). Scott OK'd it because NISA used Chad in CS3.

But back to Arvin. He's this fucking braindead sandnigger lolcow who idolizes Unisuga and hates Singa. He rips off Unisuga and makes his own compositions with 90% stolen from Unisuga.

He also gaslights people into thinking Singa is bad, because he never got enough love as a child and is just a total piece of shit.

Figured out I can emulate the PSP on my phone, so I'm going to finally give this series a try a try with Trails in the sky, I think I can play a good number that way until I jump to the switch, had anyone tried the fan translations for the ones not localized until recently?
