The LEGO Thread

I forgot that Legos were actual toys. They're literally more known for their video game adaptions than anything else. That's impressive.
That's only because they refuse to put out sets that aren't Ninjago, movie franchise tie-ins and the 80th re-release of the Millennium Falcon/Death Star.

First Lego game I played was Indiana Jones. It was charming; I have good memories with the museum hub world. However, I was unfamiliar with the source material so I never finished it.

Great game. Looking back it's surprising it took that long for there to be an open world LEGO game like that. Biggest issue with the game is that I would have liked for them to have added in some older/classic minifigs as playable characters. The UFO theme needs more love, dammit.

Can't believe they haven't made a sequel (or at the very least added some more content as DLC).
I heard in reviews the game was changed to be may more linear. Did they change it back? Last played in 2015.

This review sums it up best:
The freedom to do anything you want within Lego Worlds isn't exactly there. You can't just theme and build to your own desires all of the time, and there's still a more linear progression in play. You can visit random worlds, sure, but you also still need to obtain gold bricks to go further and further afield.

Doing that requires completing quests on worlds you're already able to visit, and over time they lack imagination. It's easy enough to locate your brick hunting challenges — a beam of light shoots up into the sky to act as your navigation point — and it's one of the more grinding aspects of Lego Worlds.

In fact, the whole early part of the game feels a little like a grind. In order to get to the more creative, fun parts, you have to follow a path of doing quests, getting gold bricks, getting back in the spaceship and doing the whole thing again.

That's not to say it isn't fun, but expectations should be tempered, at least for a while. The Lego charm is here in spades, though, and it helps you through the whole thing.
TL;DR- it is technically open world, but you'll have to unlock characters/items/buildings/sets first before you can use them. That said the game is still fun, once you get past the first hour or so and start collecting things the game really begins to open up.

I fucking loved Lego Loco as a kid. Unsurprisingly I grew up to love the Lego train sets too. 🧩

I've been getting into 100% completing Lego games recently. So far I've done Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga and Lego Indiana Jones.

I'm surprised Lego characters aren't in Smash Brothers.
There used to be a push for Chase McCain from LEGO City to be in since it was a Wii U exclusive. Sakurai does not want licensed gaming franchises in Smash though, so he was probably never even considered.

How about Lego Worlds? Where you can build your own world made of Legos without the cleanup.
I heard the game was buggy as hell, so I never played it. The same structure is used for The LEGO Movie 2 game, which is considered the worst LEGO title made by Tt, so the reception to the style gives me little confidence in it.

A lot of the charm was lost when they added voice acting in LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes.
It is a mixed bag. Voice acting was a good feature in many of the titles with original plots such as Marvel & DC, since LEGO Batman had the issue of having an undefined plot without it. As for titles based on movies, it dragged down the humor and quality as they could not create original jokes. Dimensions had voice acting be a necessity though, can you imagine Portal without GLADOS.

Outside of Dimensions, LEGO City made very good usage of voice acting.
Can't believe they haven't made a sequel (or at the very least added some more content as DLC).
The LEGO Movie 2 Game is technically a sequel, but it is considered shit.

Doesn't Smash Bros have several licensed characters?
I mean outside of gaming. LEGO is a toy company which I believe falls under the no non-gaming mascots banner. R.O.B. is the only non-gaming character in, but that is a very special case seeing as R.O.B. was Nintendo’s gateway into stores.

These games always sucked. Maybe if they acquired licenses I actually give a shit about I'd muscle through the generic design, but Legos are for kids and autists. Plus they're fucking woke, so burn.

The old school flash games that were on the Lego website were the best. Mata Nui Online was an awesome rpg type game. There was also the Orient Expedition platformer, the Backlot 3D game, Omega Team, and some others.

Lego? Woke? Explain yourself.

I mean they're meant to be bargain bin games where anybody could jump in for a couple hours.
They've got a pretty infamous anti-gun policy, or at least the banning of adding guns to sets that should have them, such as franchises that do, or just sets it would make sense in. I believe they also cut a long running partnership with shell because of a shitty campaign from greenpeace? The bricks are made from ABS plastic. If anything they just obscured the environmental impact.

I got the Tolkien Lego games and they have voice acting. It really does kill the experience weirdly enough.

Feeling a bit mixed on the upcoming Lego Star Wars game. On one hand, it looks to be bursting with content, and I'm interested in seeing how they'll reimagine Episode I-VI compared to their past attempt. On the other hand, it's going to have TLJ and TROS potentially be a dead albatross hanging on its neck, so who knows how they'll try to salvage those movies (hell, they'd probably have to stretch to get enough levels out of TLJ, that movie is so fucking uneventful).

It's going to be a wait and see for me until I know if they can adapt those movies in a tolerable fashion.

I downloaded all of the old .com flash games, and I'm bummed because the ComicBuilder doesn't have many civilian minifigs for posing.

Star wars (OG) and LoTR were the best lego gamea. The first Marvel Super Heroes game was fun because it didnt rely on Movie MCU to create a plot and there were like 150 characters to run around a GTA esque world.
