What kind of issues were they running into? As for something like an Intel/AMD system like the rugged it kind of makes sense that it would give you grief. This might be more of a reflection of Arch as a whole as with Arch, Intel only seems to work great for laptops (iGPU), AMD w/ iGPU is the same story; Intel with NVIDIA works ok in my experience if you are using DKMS for the GPU, and I haven't tested with AMD cards in a long time since I usually end up getting cheap new-stock Nvidia from family.I found a t580 LibreBooted ended up ordering that. I know it's a /g/ meme but they cost literally a quarter of a boutique laptop
Despite using artix on my desktop it's been really hit or miss with laptops for me. My laptops aren't super crazy I have one Linux first laptop and one dell rugged book which should work but the radeon card in it glitched out hard
And I've recommended it to people only for them to run into major issues
The problem with non-systemd distros is there is too much stuff I use at work / home that needs systemd or expects systemd. I was running Devuan until yesterday and just said fuck it and installed Arch (I would rather use Debian but there is a load of AI stuff I want to much around with and everything assumes Arch or Ubuntu). If you haven't already seen/heard of this Arch distro, it is probably the best out of box experience for any Linux-based Distro I've used on a laptop. (Thinkpad T470s)
Really? Is it super new? My RX5700T ran just fine with the Libre kernel. Can't really vouch for AMD laptops or newer stuff, but it should work full OOTB on the T580 you mentioned (unless it has an nvidia GPU). Memeniggers aside, the *80 machines are great, just make sure to check if your Thunderbolt / fast charging is working since there's a known issue with it having fucky firmware on this gen of machines. Flashing it is really easy even if it is, takes like 15 minutes and 10$ worth of hardware. So my laptop has a Radeon nonfeee GPU in it so its telling me that in Guix
I have a wifi adapter for WiFi but I still need a computer if I don't wanna run nonguix
The anti-systemd stuff is just turboautism. Like I get it, I do, but it's making your computer-use harder as a lone protest that nobody but other turboautists give a shit about. Daily-driving Linux is autistic enough. The problem with non-systemd distros is there is too much stuff I use at work / home that needs systemd or expects systemd. There were problems with it when I tried running in a VM on Linux.
