Whenever I tried doing something productive, it felt like every app was hindering my progress just because of how locked down everything is. In terms of getting something I want out of the system, Android ranks lower than any desktop OS. Also yes, it's not really a Linux system, but it does have a Linux kernel.

Nigger, there's a countless amount of hardware components and devices out there. A lot of them require deep knowledge of the internal hardware to write a proper driver for - it's common to see things like workarounds in the driver for hardware issues since it's cheaper to fix software than hardware.
