The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

Libvirt is fine, it's configured by XMLs, which are fairly readable. To do basically anything with virt-manager you need to expose the XMLs anyway, so it's a whatever. Virsh, on the other hand, is a mess. I highly recommend you do as much as you can in the XML, and then only use virsh in scripts.

I'm a windows pleb. How the fuck does this happen?

Implementing leisurely features without basic security considerations.

Having so many moving parts that changing basic cosmetic elements requires "global theming" to be remotely accessible.

When tried and true methods of system settings are ignored to heap on top more unpolished features.

Just like gaming on Linux became viable after a long while
That only happened because Valve invested a shitton of money due to them betting on Steam Deck running on a custom Arch-based distro, and for them to have a plan B in case Microsoft goes full retard. If not for that, gaming on Linux would still be unviable.

But with Wayland having basically zero corporate incentive to get developed into something tangible? lol, lmfao.

The Steam Deck uses X11 right? I suspect that Steam will not switch to Wayland for as long as possible.

I believe it uses Wayland for their Gamescope compositor, but uses X11 for Plasma desktop. You can also run nested Wayland desktop session while inside Gamescope, so you can access your files without exiting Steam.

I agree, X11 had corporate backing since the very beginning (since it was made in the times of UNIX mainframes). 30 years of works makes for a good desktop/server environment. Don't forget CodeWeavers who are paid to work on both CrossOver and Wine.

The fact that you have so many Wayland compositors with their own sets of uniques protocols (Kwin, Mutter, Sway, Tyzen, Gamescope, etc.) is a disaster for the whole project.

Well, tolerable since a lot of other stuff like GTK has been built on it. If you've ever read the Unix-Haters' Handbook or have fortune-mod installed you'll know of the reputation the X Window System had in the past:

Code:
X windows:
        You'd better sit down.
Don't laugh. It could be YOUR thesis project.
Why do it right when you can do it wrong?
        Live the nightmare.
        Our bugs run faster.
When it absolutely, positively HAS to crash overnight.
        There ARE no rules.
        You'll wish we were kidding.
Everything you never wanted in a window system. And more.
        Dissatisfaction guaranteed.
There's got to be a better way.
The next best thing to keypunching.
        Leave the thrashing to us.
We wrote the book on core dumps.
Even your dog won't like it.
        More than enough rope.
        Garbage at your fingertips.

Incompatibility. Shoddiness. Uselessness.
        X windows.

That one German autist who wanted to play robot waifu game on Linux deserves some credit too.
