The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

Bro is coping and seething about some arguement he had with a guy who is critical of how wayland is being implemented.

To me the whole time I was watching this. I could only think of this.

I don't know why Brodie feels the need to defend every new "cool" thing, from Wayland to Cosmic and Rust.

Standard slop like this is what I see every fucking Linux influencer on YouTube put out, every other few videos/streams.

"Is Linux Really a Good Replacement for Windows?"

"Reasons Why People Don't Use Linux"

"Is Linux Mint Actually a Good Distro?/Is Linux Mint Pointless?"

"X11 Loses ANOTHER Maintainer, Project on it's Last Legs!"

"This Distro is the FUTURE Linux Desperately Needs!"

Like shut the fuck up already, Brodie/DistroTube/LinuxCast/whatever. The more I see of this content, the more I'm convinced it's some Mac or Windows user spinning up a VM to pretend they're using Linux for posturing to the crowd they clearly hate broadcasting to.

Every time I open Invidious and search anything related to Wayland, this guy comes up as 90% of the results. Shill doesn't even begin to describe it. It's so fucking annoying.

I can't even imagine what kind of orbiter someone would need to be to subscribe to him.

Works well for me. It has good out-of-the-box compatibilty with Steam Proton, since both EndeavourOS and SteamOS are based on Arch Linux.
Proton and WINE are both completely distro-agnostic. Unless you are running some insane shit

Where did you get that info? It's based on Debian.
SteamOS was initially based on Debian... a decadish ago. It then went essentially defunct with the failure of the Steam machines. Then brought back with the Steam Deck release with SteamOS v3, which is based on Arch linux. They haven't released the SteamOS v3 ISOs for general usage which is why the SteamOS links still talk about Debian. They were supposedly going to release the v3.0 for your standard x86/64 hardware but they still haven't for whatever reason.

I've had compatibility issues between different kernel versions before, so you really never know.

Part of me wonders if they ever will, considering that many of the people in their target audience are normalfags who have never installed an OS before.

I use MX Linux with cinnamon installed. It's based on debian with a few tweaks. I run it on my desktop and thinkpad

I suspect that the whatever reason is that while Arch Linux is really good when you are targeting one or two unique hardware configurations, it's a bit different when you have to target every gaming PC in existence. Might as well make the UI a package you can install yourself

How's EndeavourOS for gaming?
I am a happy EndeavourOS gaymer. It just werks and as long as I don’t use wayland (in fairness, I haven’t tried it since it was forced on me). My nvidia card and 3 monitors causes me zero issues.

It also gave my old laptop life which is nice. It even runs some games (badly but that’s not the OS’s fault),

Absolute Slackware chad, I've been meaning to fuck with it a bit. How's the init and package management?
It uses SysvInit and I manage all the packages myself. There are some programs that can be added to your system that help manage them such as sbopkg and sboui. There is also a bit of voodoo with rpm2tgz or deb2tgz if you need some Fedora or Debian packages.

The expectation of SteamOS on desktop is incredibly high. There are a lot of comments on Steam Deck related stuff of people who expect it to be a drop-in replacement for Windows but without the bloat. Which is simply impossible and you will eventually have to use the terminal to fix breakages, even if SteamOS is immutable. I sure had to when trying to use the Steam Deck as a desktop and flatpaks didn't want to update via Discover.

Knowing the fact that SteamOS was designed to be run on specific hardware (Steam Machines, Steam Decks, possibly ROG Allies soon™), it's a bit foolish to think it'll always works without any user tinkering. I say that but people have been installing specialised media/retrogaming distros on spare PCs for a long time already.

Half the time it doesn't even work properly on hardware it was made for https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/tnwohy/anyone_figure_out_how_to_reset_default_display/
It has been 2 years since this reddit post was made and the issue has still not been fixed, I know this because just an hour ago I finished a 40 minute long phone call guiding a friend on how to fix it. Should I put the blame on Valve being incompetent retards or Linux being a piece of shit?

At least distro tube sometimes is willing to say things that are a bit against the grain sometimes.

Not saying he doesn't make cringe stuff to. But he is a bit better imo.

Wine even has some implementation on apple iirc.

Or something using wine. I cant remember the specifics because I can't be bothered to care much about apples shit.
