I really wish there was a COMPUTER in this form factor (netbook-ish) but with relatively modern specs. Something that can fit in cargo pants while still having a usable keyboard would be awesome. If they kept making netbooks into 2016 or so then the specs would still be fine, but smartphones had completely taken over by then.

Oh, cool. Partial function for the battery, screen, touchscreen, and wifi, and the camera, audio, sms, and ability to make calls are all broken.
Yeah, when it comes to Postmarket you pretty much have to buy hardware according to what kind of support they have.

How long do you think before Windows tries this? I give it less than a decade.

Edit: added local

We will own nothing and be happy and only be allowed to use the thing that tech overlords approve of using.
followed by a semi dumb phone with hotspot.
I was looking into Calyx Institute hotspots before and payment to them also is tax deductible in the US. Their top hotspot (which also has an ethernet) I think averages to about $42/month for unlimited data on Tmobile's network.

According to Brad Spengler, you can apparently crash the 6.12.43 LTS kernel if you have CAP_SYS_RESOURCE and systemd. He's blaming this on AI-slop coding:

Earlier this summer, he claim vibe-coded vulnerabilities weren't fixed 22 days later because that developer was at conferences talking about how great AI is:

...Well aren't I'm glad I hopped over to openrc from runit, I don't fucking miss SysDee at all.

Still horrifying that "vibe coding" was allowed anywhere near kernel space.

Recent Interview with one of the core Artix Linux devs, Corey Sanin
https://youtube.com/watch?v=Kv14stnUoZU
I listened to this and the Artix guy seems (relatively) normal, got involved to scratch and itch he had like so many people do. He also uses Artix with XFCE and openRC (based) and is from the midwest. But man were the intro and the... section transitions? jarring.

But they already did and Kikesoft Jeetdows 11 is now 100% locked down so Bill Gates can tell your nigger cattle ass what you can and cannot run.
In all seriousness, this sort of "you cannot run anything that isn't certified by us" BS can't be enforced on Windows without a major backlash. On Android it's trivial since 99.9% of Android users are normies that use Google Play exclusively, and the 0.1% doesn't matter and they will always try and find a way around the BS.

With Windows? Fat fucking chance. The very first enforcement of this type of policy will be prohibiting any unsigned executables to run. You know what's also an unsigned executable? Any and all software you're compiling during development for debugging. You'll say that you can just whitelist the ability to run those from a development environment, but then what's the point of this security policy when it can be bypassed? There's a very good reason why Microsoft makes Smart App Control opt-in, and requires you to opt-in on fresh installs. This is a tremendously bad idea for most Windows users, but it is perfect for enterprise users that want to lock down employee computers so that they won't run anything that could cause a mess that they don't have to run.

Again, Google is confident in enforcing such retarded policies because the vast majority of Android's userbase are retards that won't ever feel the impact of it. Not the case with Windows. Windows is a much more versatile and complex ecosystem for this shit to fly, and Microsoft knows this. Hell, it would've 100% impacted Microsoft's own developers using Windows as the development platform it would be so bad.
that developer was at conferences talking about how great AI is
Instantly ban him from ever contributing anything to the kernel ever again. Him being an Nvidia schmuck is the cherry on top of the shit sundae. Can't wait for Jensen to replace him with AI.

You can't make this shit up. This amazing piece of software written by a brave T&H woman that every FOSS project is relying on to protect themselves form the heckin' AI scrapers can be completely bypassed by... reloading the page the moment it loads. :story:

HOW THE FUCK IS THE ENTIRE FOSS ECOSYSTEM BUYING INTO THIS TROON'S GARBAGE HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS BEYOND USELESS :stress:

If you look at background.js you'll see that it also puts hosts using Anubis in a a set and changes the user-agent to "Browser" when it receives headers from them. Absolute coding.
Never forget this "Xe Iaso" retard-tranny, the creator of Anubis, says to have "no blind faith" and not to "get scammed by energy healing teachers and books" while also being a retard-tranny.
No Blind Faith - It is a sad thing in my opinion that people will blindly believe in things just because other people do. People will adopt their core views as they do and then never question or change them, even when those views come into direct conflict with information or experiences they are having. This is frustrating to watch externally and internally. We don't need to do this, so I propose that we don't have any blind faith in anything. To quote the Principia Discordia: It is my firm belief that it is a mistake to hold firm beliefs. Question the reason behind beliefs. Don't just blindly repeat things without rationale. Don't take any string of text on a screen more seriously just because it's on a screen. Even this string of text. Don't take this seriously unless it helps you. Don't get scammed by energy healing teachers and books. Seriously, there's so many scams out there it breaks my heart. Any price for entry is too high.
Also never let him live down that he's a raycis chud since his website allows any unfiltered input.
Nigger went to the park. I went with nigger. Nigger brought nigger frisbee. At least I think it was nigger. Nigger threw the frisbee to nigger.

I mostly just want an extension to block that retarded mascot everywhere I go. It usually takes half a second to load anyways even if it's trash. But now I would also like to remove all the words too because "Oh noes" would send me to fucking Jupiter if I ever saw it.

Sucks, but there's no point being all doom and gloom about it. Maybe this will increase interest in alternatives like Postmarket or Graphene, provided the silicone itself does not get locked down, which very well might follow suit. At that point the good ol' Nokia brick + pocket PC might be the saner option ironically enough.
I've already been a graphene user. But with how things are going. I have actually been seriously considering going with a linux phone. I know it's not going to give the same convenience as having a normal android based device. But as long as I can actually still make calls and sms. I think I will do fine, and I would actually have some piece of mind about this shit. I think as a linux autist it could actually work well for me. I just think a normal person wouldn't be able to use it worth a shit.

And completely cut google out of this shit. I fucking hate google so much. And it's only going to get worse. I'm not convinced graphene will even be possible going into the future particularly with the actions google has been taking the last few months.

Honestly the last few months have been the most black pilled I have even been about this stuff. Really since Trump got into office, it feels like one thing after another has been happening to fuck over the free internet, and the last tiny bit of it we have left. Because GOOGLE CARES SO MUCH ABOUT YOU AND YOUR KIDS!

Not to mention the government pushing this shit. Like the uk, it's so laughably transparent what's happening there. Anyone that doesn't realize it is a retard, or isn't paying attention. I'm not going to spend the time finding the video, but there is one of this government guy there, saying "don't use a vpn, think of the kids", cmon bro how the fuck is letting the goverment know your identity, because as a grown adult you aren't using a vpn, helping the fucking kids?

Fuck google, fuck the glowies, fuck the uk, fuck microsoft, I hope terry davis actually did hit them with his car.

The main issue with Linux phones is going to be banking and two factor authentication apps. They become less avoidable by the day, and are pretty much only available on iPhone and Android.

I'm sure there are some work arounds. I know 2fa isn't only a thing on those. It might take some setting up though. As far as I know, for what I use at least. I think I should be ok.

On that note, what do (You) think of something like AtlasOS? I am in need of a Windows machine but loathe to install any stock version, so I'm looking at this and tiny11 to find one stripped of (some of) its telemetry.

AtlasOS seems to be somewhat inactive and also it's been known for going too far in it's debloating. Tiny11 you should only use if you use the Tiny11 Builder, downloading a random modified ISO from the Internet is generally a very bad idea. Also IIRC Tiny11 cuts out a good chunk of the OS as well so YMMV with how broken it may end up.

My recommendation would be to use WinUtil, either to run post-install or to use it to build a MicroWin ISO, which is more or less stock Windows but with most of the front facing BS removed and install that, but then again that requires Windows to be built. I trust Chris' work the most since he makes it very clear that WinUtil and MicroWin are not meant to go any deeper than they need to for you to have a good Windows experience, and it's the most popular "debloat" script around, meaning it's in active development and it has many eyes on it.

Obviously you can then use Microsoft Activation Scripts to remove the nag watermark and unlock personalization options. If you don't trust it (and you shouldn't), you can perform manual activation as instructed.

Alternatively you can use an IoT LTSC version. Be sure to check the ISO's you download against Microsoft's official SHA256 hashes like so (free Microsoft account required):
1756291271123.webp 1756291348707.webp
Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021 is Windows 10 21H2 that's supported until 2032 if you want to stay on an older version, and Windows 11 IoT LTSC 2024 is Windows 11 24H2 that's supported until 2034. Note that what you're getting with LTSC is a long term support version frozen at a given feature update and a bit less crap installed by default, but you don't gain some magical performance boost or zero telemetry. You want to use it if you don't want to have a feature update change or break something in two years, but want to keep your OS up to date on all the security fixes. This of course has it's own caveats like newer software potentially breaking due to it abandoning older Windows versions but it's up to you to decide.

One thing that you have to keep in mind is that there is no way to fully cut out the telemetry. If that's your main concern and you have no other choice but to use Windows then keeping it offline, or at the very least putting it in an air-gapped network is what you want to do to minimize the impact. What you're looking with a modified Windows ISO or a Windows "debloater" is just a light touch-up to make it a bit more pleasant to use by removing and disabling unnecessary elements without messing with the OS too deep to ensure stable operation.

Sure, you can do TOTP on literally anything.

The problem is when you need to use some proprietary bullshit that does push notifications and additional prompts for codes and shit like Microsoft Authenticator or Okta Verify. That isn't going to run on SailfishOS, some of them won't even run on the more locked down Android forks with Google services added. Maybe you can get around banking apps by using a website, but many banks will force you to use a phone app with some jerry-rigged push authentication to sign in. Maybe your bank doesn't do that bullshit now, but who knows if they'll change that a few months down the track?

It's worth a go, yes, but it won't necessarily be easy.
