Exactly. And as long as you've got X installed on Debian, if you then later need to access that server with a GUI while it's running 'headless', you can just set things up to connect remotely over X11 from another machine on the same network, or install VNC or RDP to connect that way.
Ya u can remote into anything idk why you'd switch back to headless after you have a de installed, might as well keep it if you got it

EVERY week our expectations of microsoft gets lower and lower. IM SO FORTUNATE for being privileged enough to fully work on linux

Why would you have a screen and peripherals connected to a server that you don't generally need to access directly?
thats why im asking, i dont understand why u want a gui today and then headless tomorrow, if u need a gui u need a gui why r u switching back and forth. im probably too retarded and dont know enough about server land though
also i made an image, enjoy

some time ago someone recommended devuan, and after arch broke several essential MATE features for the 5,000th time on my laptop, MATE working fully on devuan was a nice change of pace. curious if anyone has any opinions on the various init system choices?

The only Devuan variant worth pursuing is Sysvinit.

Both OpenRC and Runit variants are built on top of Sysvinit making following the documentation awkward for system-wide services.

I'm starting to get less adverse to FreeDesktop, having previously thought that the entire Linux desktop stack was rotten. I don't think anymore that X, Wayland or any other projects of them are the cause of desktop Linux' issues. I'm gravitating towards the GNOME project and its ever degrading products like GTK being the primary source that is holding back the Linux desktop.

Slightly tangential but somewhat connected is that Shepherd, Guix's init system, is under consideration for being added to Devuan (L). I have no idea how they'd get it to work since its so tightly integrated with Guix's declarative system configs. It would either be a gimped version that you'd use as any other init by manually using "sudo herd start <thing>" in cli, or somehow integrate it alongside Guix (the package manager) for declarative handling. But, at that point, it'd be just Guix in a Devuan skin. There have been other seemingly successful attempts to do it, curious to see if the Devuan people manage to make it work at a similar level as their current offerings.

Shepherd was originally intended to be the init system for GNU/Hurd, and it is standalone to Guix. However since both of them use Guile as a backend they integrate well with each other.

GTK3 is fine, if Linux Mint came pre-installed on computers you could buy from stores Linux would be more popular now
In my experience GTK2 was more fine than GTK3. It shouldn't be that way. An increasing version number should signify improvement, right? (Don't get me started on GTK4...)

I just use sysvinit. Just works

Speaking of windows being a horrible broken mess, this thread has been pretty peaceful for the past week or so...
Slav Power exiled himself from the site a couple weeks ago. He posted in a thread about some guy who maybe killed himself and got shat on pretty hard, and stopped posting altogether soon after.
He’ll probably be back, eventually. Idk if he even got threadbanned or just decided looking at this thread wasn’t good for his heart or something.

On his profile a janny said null banned him. They didn't answer if it was a temp ban or not.

His username isn’t crossed out, so I don’t think it’s permanent. @Slav Power
I never know. There is at least one person who has a crossed out name still (or at least did as of a week or two ago), that isn't banned at all. They were banned, then unbanned, but the name remained crossed out. I can't remember who it was. I just know from reading the comments on their profile. I don't think whoever it was had logged back in yet, but they should technically be able to.
