The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

  • Happy Easter!
Why does this exist? How the fuck is Linux still fucking up simple shit?
that's not limited to linux, I have a hard-drive which write-protects itself coming out of windows sleep (same model on another controller doesn't, so probably a driver/setting issue I cba to dig into).

A potential problem with opensuse is they seem to be on the woke "code of conduct" bandwagon:
So I'm waiting for all the competent contributors either run away or be ousted, and the codebase to turn into a rust-based sludgepile.
I hope not - I've quite liked it the past - but I'm not optimistic.
it's actually worse, mentioned it earlier in the thread. however so far they managed to keep their retardation out of the distro, but probably also any good devs "on the wrong side of history".
anyone familiar with CCC and the german open source scene shouldn't be surprised, they really like to lick antifa boots and what comes alongside it. good luck to any real woman!

Anyone know a good email client for Linux?
My needs are met solely with IMAP so surely anything would work.
The ones I've tried so far have been KMail and Thunderbird, and unfortunately both are absolute shit.
KMail seems to be a bit better for my needs and what I'm using right now but has more bugs and "krashes" then Outlook (which is impressive).
Do I just need to cuck out and install most of Gnome to try out Evolution (which looks promising but fuck Gnome), or is there just no good email clients for Linux?

I've been recommended Betterbird before, which is a fork of Thunderbird by one of (ex-)maintainers. Can't vouch for it though, as Thunderbird works good enough for me.

What's the best email company? I've been using Outlook but I'm trying to find an alternative I like and has good spam management.

I have had good luck with protonmail. Spam gets filtered efficiently, it doesn't cost anything unless you want bells and whistles, etc. Main problem with it though is that because so many scammers use it, it might get flagged as spam as well. Doesn't happen to me too often, but it does happen.

😂. Lunduke couldn't let that stand after he did the video sucking himself off about Red hat dropping dei policies.

Highlight of the video. He calls it stolen valor.

Lunduke is the epitome of that guy I agree with very often, but he words every single thing in a way that I want to disagree with him. Hes not a likeable person at all. Surprised he doesn't have his own thread here

Yeah. I definitely see that.

To me, the reason I watch him. Is he is right a good bit of the time. But his framing is usually not the best.

But the other reason. Is while I'd be happier if he didn't say things the way he does, because it would probably have a bigger impact. As gay as optics are they're real, and make a difference with this kind of thing. Anyway, I enjoy how much he makes people seeth. Its pretty funny to me.

Something actually interesting. So towards the end. He points out that what they're calling a charity looks a lot more like a defense contractor. Talking about mitre. They bring in billions a year looks like they are paid by the government. And say they do things a government defense contractor would do. Not sure what the actual deal is with it. But interesting none the less.

For a "minimal but not suckless schizo" GUI client, I like Claws-Mail on the whole. But be aware that it doesn't support IMAP IDLE ("push").
Cheers guys, I will try these out today and see how they go. Thanks for the recommendations

Bit of background, the CVE program initially started as a concept by MITRE corporation (here's the paper (archive)), and the database was launched in 1999. It ended up being utilised enough considered how important it was to have easily accessible critical information of this nature, and provided proper standards surrounding identified issues within various environments which required immediate remediation. Right now the CVE database is run and maintained by both MITRE and NIST, who also run the National Vulnerability Database (NVD)

MITRE also run and maintain the MITRE Att&ack framework, a crucial knowledge base covering adversarial T&Ts (tactics and techniques) used for threat hunting, modeling, attack mapping and hunting methodologies. This framework is also used by various security tools to detect and respond to potentially malicious activities within an environment, the most prolific being Crowdstrike Falcon, who literally base detection names on T&Ts (for example "Impact via Inhibit System Recovery", which is indicative of backups/volume shadow copies etc being deleted from an endpoint, a tactic typically seen in various types of ransomware prior to encryption of files. They're more or less considered a backbone within information security

It's seems that after losing almost all of his audience, he's managed to carve out a niche for covering the cross-section between open-source tech, politics and 'woke'. His big hits recently have surpassed his popular Linux Sucks series from back in the day. The history of him nuking everything because 'YouTube Bad' and trying to paywall all of his stuff, just for all of it backfire and for him to lose everything, is pretty funny.

There's also some drama between him and an old podcast series he used to do, but I'm not well informed on that.

I use Thunderbird for home and Evolution for work (since Evolution is better at connecting to Outlook/Exchange and GSuite). Thunderbird has gotten a little worse (and BetterBird doesn't fix the things I've found that are broken), but it still does well enough for all my needs. I'd take a look at Evolution too.

That similar to how I see him. On occasion he'll cover stuff that no one else is looking at, such as with the CVE stuff (no one on the Hackernews thread is talking about the board members or how it's mostly run by big industry anyway). But a lot of times he's just Jewish Tim Pool reading us the news straight from another website. I usually just look at the article in the screenshot and read it myself. He'd do better if he kept his ugly face out and just used a cartoon of himself.

The history of him nuking everything because 'YouTube Bad' and trying to paywall all of his stuff, all for it it backfire and for him to lose everything, is pretty funny.
I did not know about this backstory. I only heard about Lunduke last year. I have seen the archives of his old website and it looked pretty neat. His current one is just a link wall with no personality.

My experience with Linux wifi has been very good. I don't even have to install drivers most of the time because they're included in the kernel.

I really like Evolution, although I only use the calendar part. I installed it through Flatpak since I needed the most up to date version.

YouTube Bad
Truu doe. YouTube bad.

But yeah lunduke does some dumb stuff and he is easy to laugh at.

Oh and this.

Lunduke has actually been around for a long time. And does/did actually know people from the open source, and software, and hardware world. Even if it might not seem like it.

Wanna start using linux again, is mint still decent? The only problem I had last time i used it is that the GUI wouldn't scale properly on 1440p display but that was some years back so they might've updated since then?

Mint and Fedora are the 2 best distros everyone seems to recommend these days.
I personally recommend Fedora above Mint, solely because KDE is an easy install option (most Windows like and imo most functional Desktop) and much newer software overall, most important if you play games via Steam or have newer hardware.
Both have very good live environments you can play with by booting off a USB. I recommend downloading and trying both and seeing what you like the most.

I'd like to add OpenSUSE as a possible option. As a rather recent convert and overall noob it has been very kind to me.
