If you wanted to game on Wayland. Hyprland is what you would need to use. At least fps matters. They've allowed you to disable vsync for a while. The others I believe might, be about to implement it.

Too bad drew devault has had any kind of influence on Wayland at all. Maybe if it wasn't for him and his faggot friends, the other Wayland window managers and desktops would be a bit further along like hyprland.

KDE has an option to disable the compositor when you're running something in full-screen (ie most games).

People who hate Wayland based on their experiences a few years ago would do well to give it another go. A lot of kinks have been ironed out. I can plug my laptop into a dock and the monitor will click to life with proper resolution scaling, including different scales on different monitors. X11 only does one scale for all monitors, and hotplugging monitors has always been hit or miss with it.

Honestly, I'd go so far as to say that Slackware, Void and Gentoo are the top three best Linux distributions for users that want total control over their system and are willing to invest time into making it truly theirs. For instant, out of the box usability I'd say MX and Devuan are pretty good, then for a touch more setup but increased tweak-ability, there's always Artix . For containers and embedded systems there's Alpine and OpenWRT, and if you're a turbo autist or run some sort of server infrastructure, I'd say Nix is pretty good too. RHEL can tongue my anus and so can systemD. Gentoo is bestoo.

I've never used Void, but have quite a bit of Slackware and Gentoo use, both are amazing for this. They never assume use cases but have very different ways of managing that (Slackware a ton of software is installed by default to cater to all use cases, Gentoo its up to you to install what you need), Slackware is an ultra stable distro that will never change or break without you doing something, Gentoo is a bit more unstable but only breaks during large updates in my experience.
Both are for power users absolutely, but they do it in very different ways and I enjoy that. They both give you total control of the wheel but its up to you to decide how much you use.

It would also have the unintended side effect of making most python programs like 50% less of a pain in the ass to install, because one of mpvs dependencies is libplacebo which has a whole bunch of python libraries as dependencies (I had to draw a flowchart) and those are often in the dependency list for other python programs too. It means Slackware would come with yt-dlp preinstalled as well, which is neat.

Good news is that mpv is in Current because phonon-gstreamer is dead and they really don't want to package vlc for some reason, so phonon-mpv is used. The next stable release will have it, although when 15.1 releases no one knows.
I agree that it has bad media players by default like MPlayer. But those days may finally be in the past.
yt-dlp isn't included, although it has no extra dependencies in Current so its an easy install from a Slackbuild. If Haruna the new KDE media player replaces Dragon soon, you will see yt-dlp in the base distro, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

mpv is awesome. VLC is good in its own right, but mpv has never given me any issues.

One can only dream. IMO it would be a great service to any FOSS supporting Linux user to include qBitTorrent or transmission as preinstalled software. I think MX comes with transmission but I could be misremembering. I have seen a few package qBittorrent (mostly the KDE focused distros). I think Linux Mint ships Transmission by default but its been a few years since I've used it.
Haruna (KDE's new media player based on mpv, replacing Dragon and the rest) has yt-dlp as a hard dependency, so it won't be long until yt-dlp is included by default in a lot of distros. https://haruna.kde.org/
Slackware almost entirely packages KDE software and avoids anything else if possible, so its not unrealistic to see it there by default one day.

Handling a preinstalled VPN the way Slackware does it would be best. Wireguard comes preinstalled but you have to find your own servers to connect it to, either by rolling your own or using Mullvad's. Having torsocks preinstalled would be rad too.

I know Slackware comes with KTorrent, would be cool if other KDE-using distros did as well.

IDK man, now that I have access to decent LLMs I'm 'coding' things I want the computer to do successfully and on a whim. I'm not a programmer. I'm barely even a script-kiddie. But, I don't have to learn shit to get rid of these little qualms now.

I don't think we have to rely on spergs to address nuisances anymore, and when we do, those spergs can operate at 10x their previous output.

It was a meme on /g/ for a reason. Gentoo forces you to learn Linux and Unix before you're allowed to even boot it. (this was back in like '07 )
