Update: new OS version boots fine on VMware Workstation 17 player
I have started to like it less and less, the last 5 versions released on arch linux have been a buggy mess, and half the games I play did not work with those versions.
Did you try the environment variables from the link you sent?

when i use those variables it puts my game in a 1440p window and disables 4k. no google results show anything. What game are you running, I could try reproducing it on my side later today.
I have only tested hunt showdown so far. When I google it people have this issue with wayland but not with this scenario specifically
Necroing this ancient post to say: not yet. I am saving up to get one. There have been staggering improvements since you made your post, it now runs an RK3588 (8-core with 4x 2.4 GHz Cortex-A76 + 4x 2.2 GHz Cortex-A55), up to 32 gigs LPDDR4, a standalone GPU and has an NVMe + 2.5" SSD slot. Not gonna lie, it looks sick. Pretty spicy price but imo probably worth the effort to make Moloch & Baal (Intel & AMD) tongue your asshole once you're rid of the PSP/IME shit. Not sure what is up with the TrustZone firmware on the Reform, AFAIK one of their head devs wrote somewhere that they are running some bespoke gimped version, with the only binary blobs being in DDR and GPU initialization but I can't find the exact post. Pretty cool stuff nonetheless. Guess this is about the best we can get until stronger RISC-V or POWER9 laptops become a thing.
I didn't really "get good" at the terminal 'til '14. Nowadays, everything is pipes for me. One of the most "powerful" parts of Linux. Keep learning!
Did buy Hunt Showdown just to see if anything like that would happen on my end, seems like it was working fine, initially launched in a 1440p borderless fullscreen window but it did let me change to 4K and enable HDR. Tried some other HDR enabled games, Quake 2 RTX, Resident Evil VIllage, Tony Hawk, POE 2. All seemed to work fine minus POE2 which made a black window and would CTD. Might be something fucking up on your end causing it to not work right, I know with KDE every now and again I've had to restart my session to have shit work properly.
interesting. on my end it opens in the 1440p window and then doesnt have anything higher. Are you using any scaling in your settings? I have everything at 1.25% scale. What version are you on? KDE wise?
I'm on the latest release of KDE 6.3.5, and Scaling is enabled on both monitors @ 125%.

Yeah I got no clue then, like I said restarting KDE has fixed shit like this in the past for me but I would not be surprised if it fixes nothing. Are you on amd or nvidia? I dont think that should make a difference but I am using a 7900 XTX.
I edited my post with my fix. However IDK how to fix it without disabling my second monitor. Is there like a wayland config?
Lol, I was thinking of asking if you had a second 1440p monitor. Did you try setting your primary monitor as your 4K display in KDE's settings? That could be affecting the game.
My 4k monitor is my primary. Every solution I have found has not worked
What is your screen positioning like, is your main at 0,0 coordinates or is your secondary monitor at 0,0. Believe it or not I've also had that shit have an effect on proton fucking up.
How do I check? I have them side by side with my 1440p monitor on the left
See what the output of
kscreen-doctor --outputs is, it should say in the geometry section the coordinates, and the resolution. Though honestly a dumb workaround is just turning your secondary monitor off, launching the game, then turning your secondary monitor back on every time you play the game for the time being.
