I can see one simple, obvious reason.

Either some retard exec within Canonical has set a KPI, or some funder or customer has made a request that 'software within Ubuntu' 'move towards' memory safety.

Now, if you're a programmer or an engineering manager, what do you do? Set out to replace Gnome with a completely new desktop environment written in Rust? Lol, too expensive and noone would use it. Nah, much simpler to- especially if the targets for the KPI are set out in some COMPLETELY RETARDED way that allows you to count converting 20 simple executables with a few thousand LOC each from C to Rust as 20 times as much work achieved as converting 1 executable with 50,000 LOC- fuck ass around with random core utilities that are 100% safe and have been since time immemorial. Sure, critical things will get broken, but you will get your bonus despite having done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF VALUE.

Omarchy is great. Very pretty, very easy to configure, and surprisingly lightweight. Even with a ton of stuff open, I have never gone above at most 10 gigs of RAM usage, and I'm running it on an old ass W541. Another WM I'd consider if you like/have used i3 is Sway. If you aren't the Waylanding type, i3 or bspwm come to mind. DWM if you are a turbo autist.

You would be fucking surprised. Working any IT role in a big company is about anger management above all else. The faster you learn to just check out and say "yes sir, no sir, three bags full, sir", the less you'll have to suffer the absolute retardation of u*per m*nagement.

My schizo theory is they want to undermine the free software foundation replace everything with programs made by people that don't give a fuck about free software and permissive licenses. Then eventually allow Linux to be more taken over than it already is by corporate, and proprietary influences.

Also the people that think making it about politics (specifically leftist politics) rather than software. That don't care about actually software freedom, but rather freedom for people they don't believe are "dangerous" (they say that to justify blocking everyone that disagrees or wants to stop them).

We have seen the "ethical software" people do this to everyone that has simply told them "no". Like ladybird. The dev said no. So they made up fake allegations, called him a rapist/child groomer. Tried to kill his project. A lot of the people that really push hard for rust are in some way related to these same people.

There is definitely some connection there. And some tie between the removal of the people they see as standing in the way of their complete control of free software.

It sounds like a schizo theory but if you watch this stuff you can see what I mean.

Pardon if this has been posted about already, but Drew "Nigger" Devault got hard felted by the Omarchy chuds when he suggested adding a CoC (link). DHH and the other people at 37signals seem pretty chuddy with how they deal with cargo cult CoC niggers, certainly love to see it. Omarchy would unironically be 10/10 if they built on top of Artix instead of Arch.

What's really funny to me is that a lot of first year CS assignments are based around getting students to reimplement common coreutils tools like wc and sort in C. Somehow, trannies can't seem to write rust versions that would pass most automated checks used for grading.

He also happened to write his gay hit piece, and decided vaxry was a fascist after this. In the long run it still didn't work. But it did have a real effect at the time. And in some ways still has an effect. It was at that point all these people in lock step decided the project was problematic, it eventually led to him being banned from participating in freedesktop. From what I've seen, it seems like vaxry has sort of taken a bit of a combative stance after that happened. Which is understandable. I'm sure at a certain point it felt like he was basically by himself, with a lot of people wanting his project to fail. 2023 was definitely sill in the worst of the DEI, CoC shit.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was getting death threats, and shit behind the scenes knowing these people. I for sure saw them try to drag his name through the mud at that time.

I am becoming more white but it's not 100% yet and DAMN is it fun to use the keyboard primarily to navigate on my computer. I gotta hold tab a lot for some webpages but still, I'm kicking myself for not learning how to do it sooner.

It's not Linux that's magic, it's DXVK that's magic. Somehow translating DirectX into Vulkan leads to lower latency and better frametimes [ispoiler[(even though this game isn't a great example for frametimes since a) SilentPatch fixes it's bad frametimes and b) it runs at >200fps when not framelocked since it's a PS2 port from 2005)[/ispoiler], and it just so happens that since DirectX is a Windows native API and DXVK is a Windows native DLL, you can get these benefits under Windows proving that this isn't a Linux exclusive benefit, but due to Linux essentially relying on DXVK to run Windows games, it passively gets those benefits whereas on Windows you have to dig in the game files yourself to apply DXVK.

I don't know what it is exactly but it feels like Vulkan unhooks the input from the framerate since those 33ms are what you'd expect from locked 60fps, and by pure magic DVXK can apply this to DirectX games when doing API translations. Not to mention that with these older D3D9 games you actually get a performance uplift with DXVK over DirectX. Hell, I applied it to Crysis which uses DX10 and I still noticed an uplift. It's pure magic, and everyone can benefit from it.

If only some autist fixed all problems related to high framerate issues in San Andreas, it's still best to play at locked 30fps unless there were some developments recently.
At least Silent fixed frame cap on PC, it was locking to 24fps because R* are incompetent cocksuckers.

this was actually something i was kind of hoping for as i take the position of linus torvalds that "it's your software you get to pick the license"
rewriting coreutils means you can license it however you like and proprietary operating systems like macos or operating systems that try not to ship gpled software like freebsd can have a working set of coreutils
