As for it being bloated. I just checked the RAM usage on my system. It is using about 400MB of memory.
This website is currently using 350 MB in this tab, according to Brave.
Bloat as in features, I don't want my game launcher to ship with a web browser for example. I like Linux for the Unix philosophy, I am very much of that mindset. It sounds like we are just completely different users so what you enjoy, I hate.
I don't even have a steam account anymore, I use GOG because I can just download the installer and run the game exactly the way I want to. For somebody like me Steam is everything I wanted to escape on Windows.
They do a great service for us all with Proton though, I credit them that.

No, not at all. What you and many others don't understand is that I've learned to pick my battles and not obsess over a load of stuff that doesn't really matter too much.
What I care about is "Do I control my PC, or does some corpo control it?" Steam doesn't take any control away from what I do on my PC.

I don't know what made you say this, we clearly are different users. That is fine, I wasn't judging you for liking Steam. I for one do care and will pick my battles for how I like to play games. It is okay to like different things.
UWP was a good idea, the only reason why it died was that Microsoft made four mobile OSs in a row that were incompatible with each other and by the fourth one developers just gave up and stopped supporting it.
I would argue developers were quickly being demotivated by Windows Phone 8 as Android had the app gap situation sorted out pretty early into its development history, Microsoft just assumed the enterprise mindset is what made Android and iOS become insanely popular.
GOG's been "promising" and "working" on Galaxy Linux support for well over a decade at this point. Heroic Games Launcher at this point is a staple for anyone with an iota of taste who refuses to touch Lutris. The real issue is how achievements don't get logged for Linux-native games, requiring you to run shit through Proton. Not to mention: how the fuck will GOG actually handle the Proton question? Are they gonna use Valve Proton? GE-Proton? Develop some bespoke, in-house Proton variant because of some misplaced incentive to differentiate GOG Galaxy from Steam? Even if we get 1:1 feature parity across Windows, Mac, and Linux for GOG Galaxy, that still won't change the fact that Galaxy itself has always been an inferior Steam. Tell me how many Doom games I own with active multiplayer on Steam, but the GOG versions deliberately strip out the multiplayer component?

No. I won't. Every time I've donated to stuff (either time or effort), the project has then decided to do a metaphorical fuck you to a portion of their user base.
I am quite happy to be a complete leech these days.
I am writing once more to say either Ubuntu or Wayland sucks massive fucking dick.
I got a new mouse recently because my previous keyboard and mouse combo enjoyed providing some lovely stickiness to keys and mouse presses. Which includes some weird-ass bug where the scroll wheel scrolls to the previous state the scroll was in. I would scroll up once, but because I scrolled down previously, it scrolls down instead, and vice versa. Going forward to me having a brand new keyboard and mouse, and the problem not only persists but gets worse. Sometimes I can't even click on things without it thinking I'm dragging shit and the weird scroll behavior, extremely noticeable. The previous keyboard and mouse were wireless, so I thought the problems I had with them were because of that specifically, but no, I'm now using wired peripherals and the problem not only persists but worsens. This isn't some cheap-ass KB+M, these costs me an arm and a leg, the previous one was a shitty, Poundland KB+M combo set. -- So, me being fucking paranoid that I bought faulty hardware, I test it out on hardware that I know work, my trusty Macbook M1. Whaddya know? It works perfectly. No fucking stupid floaty mouse presses, sticky keys, weird-ass scrolling artifacts, nothing. So, clearly, the problem lies with either Wayland or Ubuntu, because it's stupid beyond belief if this would be a Linux problem when I'm the only one who's ever noticed this.
Sidenote: I gave up with (regular) X11 because (Discord) screenshare was completely fucked, which included fucking up my monitor when I watched a movie on MPV, which would include this just abhorrent flickering which would make a epileptic go into shock.
It wasn't visible through screenshare but it was visible through the monitor and wasn't a program error because it would show up on top of other programs too, it freaked me the fuck out. I thought it was a problem with the cable with how fucked the problem seemed, but pausing the video file stopped it from happening, seriously fucked.
Other than that, though, X11 was neat, didn't have problems besides that.
LMAO, no, I will not pay for FOSS niggers doing it for free (mostly because they have zero GUI design skills). All my money go to an AI subscription instead so I can use linux to begin with, because Linux tards were retarded to make everything work in the terminal, which only by change happen to be what these AI agents happens to work well with.

Something I remember my friend showing me back in like 2019 was using OBS virtual camera for screensharing to get around discord's nitro requirement for 1080p, wonder if that still works and if it would solve your issue?
Pretty much the same. I won't donate to anything that is already supported by something else like hardware sales (I've used TuxedoOS because I use a Tuxedo laptop, won't donate because I already bought from them) or a big distro that probably gets tons of corporate support like Debian, but I do donate to some of those smaller but long-lived distros that I use.
Regarding SteamOS, a German IT journo tested it with integrated AMD graphics as well as a dedicated 9060 XT, and performance compared to Win 11 was roughly the same w/o RT and much worse w/RT. It also requires you to log in into your Steam account, and only allows you to play Steam games.

You can bypass it by dumping youself into a TTY and typing in steamos-session-select plasma-wayland-persistent, this will make it so it always boots into desktop mode and skips logging in. There used to be the option to switch to desktop mode without logging in by just using the default power option menu, don't know why they removed it.

Ya thats me too I'll donate to small independent projects but if you have suse or red hat or canonical employees paid to work on it then I'll just let the corporation do corporate things
