Yeah, that's exactly my thinking, but Linux has been a magnet for a very specific kind of people, so it's probably gonna stay messy. My /opt installer proposition is something that would've worked if it happened in the 90's.

I have one of those, it's called bash.AppImageLauncher
$ ~/nfs/bin/kicad<tab>10<tab><enter>Pretty good, considering docx files aren't some mystical encrypted file and the format has been sussed out for around 10 years. LibCalc is a perfectly fine excel replacement and even copies the vast majority of the formulas (I haven't found any that haven't worked so far). How's LibreOffice,GIMP and Kdenlivegoing for that professional work btw?
and the LLM just does the job that was asked, it doesn't spend its time appeasing the CoC team.I think I know why Linux people hate LLM's so much. You can ask them to solve Linux issues and they just will do what you ask them to instead of berating you for not having decades of experience with Unix-like systems and how they work, which undoes decades of gatekeeping.![]()
Jokes on you! My monitors are too old for HDR.Linux still has shitty HDR support
Wayland was a mistake
Most people who need productivity software disagree.Pretty good, considering docx files aren't some mystical encrypted file and the format has been sussed out for around 10 years. And of course, if you truly require Microsoft Office Software you can just use the professional web versions via Google Chrome as 90% of modern apps are simply a wrapper for the web page. I didn't even bother checking if Spotify or Neflix had a Debian build, I just went on the website and logged in.
I've used LO for some 15 years on and off professionally (whenever possible) and privately—and OpenOffice before that during studies. Except for a few UI hiccups around last winter, it has always served me well.(How's LibreOffice, GIMP and Kdenlive going for that professional work btw?)
I must reluctantly agree that there are use cases out there where LO fails. I have spreadsheets at work that would absolutely assfuck LibreCalc. The other Office applications would probably do fine, but Excel is a tough nut to crack for orgs that absolutely rely on monster spreadsheets or funky formulas. Most people who need productivity software disagree.
LibreOffice can't handle complex data.
Web apps to deal with gigabytes of work? LOL
The real gaps between FOSS and proprietary software only start showing at this level of complexity of the user's needs. Pretty much everyone who swears LibreOffice thwarts MS Office says it because their use case is that of a home user where LO does meet their needs, so they blindly assume that'll work for everyone. Thing is that Excel, for better or worse, runs the world, and many companies have spreadsheets that make LO shit itself, and those spreadsheets are mission critical, so they'll have to use MS Office or else they can't do shit. Sure they'd love to save money on those 365 subscriptions, but there isn't any better options out there. There's also the fact that 365, much like the Adobe suite, has seamless integrations between all the programs in the ecosystem that makes working on them so much easier. LO has a better shot at accomplishing that, any Adobe alternatives are lol.I must reluctantly agree that there are use cases out there where LO fails. I say this as a man who is 100% FLOSS in his private life and despise that my company sucks Microsoft troon cock for almost everything.
CachyOS. It's noob friendly, Arch based, and it's gaming focused so you can jump right into being one of the most insufferable shitheads on the Internet. Scream about how every single game runs better than on Microslop Winslop and remind everyone you're using Arch (btw). Best deal on the obnoxious fuckwit market today IMO.what is the best linux distro if im a complete retard who makes linux my personality but suck at computers
oh yeah i used cachy for a bit before torturing myself with bazzite it was pretty solid. i thought the optimized packages and custom kernel other distros actually wanted kind of set it apart from other arch distrosCachyOS. Don't even get me started on this.Of course, you can argue about why the fuck is everyone running everything off of spreadsheets, but that's a whole another story
Then Fedora 44 happened and it assraped Cachy in gaming performance. Those custom patches are a cope, proper kernel contributions that bridge the gap between Linux and WinNT like the improved NTSYNC are what's going to improve the performance, not doing questionable BS to the kernel to get 0.5% more frames so you're now 9.5% worse than Windows instead of being 10% worse, when a decade ago you couldn't even dream of running Windows games on Linux like you can today.i thought the optimized packages and custom kernel other distros actually wanted kind of set it apart from other arch distros
gamers dont even think about their c compilerThen Fedora 44 happened and it assraped Cachy in gaming performance. Frankly, I want to bash the faces of every loudmouthed """Linux gamer""" with a rusty hammer repeatedly until they all fuck off to consoles or shut the fuck up. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree Linux shouldn't cater to these cattle. It took me a few clicks in a GUI in Mint to be able to run Windows games, it's already piss easy to get going and it takes zero effort to run software, yet these fucksticks will insists that you MUST use a boutique distro to play games because they run 1% better on it. If you care about performance, JUST USE WINDOWS FOR GAMING. But no, they use Linux for gaming only to ruin absolutely everything on the Internet and make everyone cater to them so now YouTube and tech publications and every tech related online space is ruined to cater to these emotional manbabies. That's the only reason they want Linux to work for gaming, they want to stoke their egos and use one of the most asinine concepts known to man as a personality. Playing with digital toys on a super duper special boy OS (in their minds) so that they can get asspats and upvotes. FUCK, THEM. With rusty knives covered in acid.
