It looks so bad, like a shitty fan film:

How did they regress so badly in terms of fight scenes.
Been re-watching seasons 1-3 of Cobra Kai this week in anticipation for Season 4's release.

Amazing and sad how a tv series with a significantly lower budget has better choreographed and better filmed fight scenes than a MATRIX sequel ...

As I've said before, I am not a fan of any of the Matrix sequels. The first movie is the only good one (let alone great one) of the bunch, in my opinion. That said, at least Reloaded and Revolutions looked good and looked interesting.

Easy, because Yuen Woo-ping, the guy who choreographed the previous three, is not there. I know he's old, but could they not find someone who could rise up to his level? I'm sure there are some younger fellas who could do Matrix-level choreography.

The real issue, though, is that it's framed and edited so fucking badly. It's just mediocre at best and really bad at worst.

It's impressive how bad this looks. Everything about it, really.

Agent Smith in the originals was played by Hugo Weaving and his stellar acting made him feel uncanny and robotic. He really had the perfect face, since within the logic of the fake world in the Matrix, he looked like some CIA Man-in-Black type, but Weaving managed to play the role in a way to really come across like the AI-Agent that he was supposed to be.

nuSmith looks like some fratboy douchebag and he acts wrong. Can't put it into words, but I think he comes across like some smug asshole (hence the mental image of a fratboy douchebag).

The lighting is again this faint blue/faint-yellow garbage that Hollywood loves to abuse so much, the choreography is boring and I can't decide if the camerawork is good and helps disguising how sluggish everyone moves or if it is bad and prevents me from seeing what the fuck is going on. Thing is: The choreography is lackluster and they want to hide it via fast cuts and weird angles. And much like Chris Chan: This doesn't work out at all.

A few nice effects are here and there, a few nice shots, but they are so few and far in between, it doesn't matter, the overall quality of the fight-scene is bad. Everything about this is bad.

Not only do they not know when to quit, they didn't secure the next generation of fantards. They spent so much effort milking the cash cow that it feels like they completely forgot that they needed to attract new blood after the old audience weaned off it. Whoever hasn't heard of The Matrix by now surely doesn't want to check it out on it's fourth movie that came out of nowhere, it doesn't help that their two leads are north of their fifties, and Reeves still isn't a star name outside of plebbit and John Wick fans. I'm not sure why they didn't even try to spin this as a soft reboot because they rehashed all the same shit enough to call it one. Also, Not-Morpheus looks like a right dickhead in those brightly coloured suits.

He kind of reminds me of the T-1000 except that guy worked because his lean-and-mean face with a smaller frame than Arnold's really sold the idea that this new Terminator blended in better and was a threat of unknown magnitude right until he starts trying to kill you. And Smith looking younger than he was is just odd.

Came across this clip on YouTube. I had forgotten how good this action scene from Reloaded looked:

The choreography, the music, the lighting, the sound editing, the long cuts, etc. This is better than any of the action scenes in Resurrections in every way imaginable.

The absolute state of current cinema when even The Matrix: Reloaded looks as good as it does now ... Good God.

I really hate the Matrix sequels... but they are spectacular looking, you simply can't deny that. Whoever came up with the "shakey-cam close-up" action scenes of today needs to be nailed to a burning cross.

I can understand why Reloaded and Revolutions are disliked among people, especially the latter...but Reloaded gets too much of a bad rap for what it was imo. The state of modern blockbuster action movies - even in capeshit - make it look like gold by comparison.

Related to Reeves looking tired, I think it's less of a failure on the actor and more on the director. Watch the multi-punch scene between both movies. That's probably one of the easiest scenes you could film and make it look fast and powerful, and they absolutely flopped it in Resurrections. Nu-Smith's attacks look slow and tired when they have no reason to be; it's poor editing and direction.

The feminist pandering during the final 5 minutes of the movie, though.
I also liked the new idea that Neo and Trinity could be two halves of The One, mildly. I didn't even hate the final five minutes but nerfing his flight like that after Smith turned into a hillbilly with a fart sound is just.... stop making them so impotent in the middle of a tense scene. I honestly hoped that they would learn to fly together but it really does look like Trinity stole his thunder at the end. All they had to do was say:
"I'm not doing this, are you doing this?"
"No. We're doing this, Neo." and then he visibly gains his strength back to fly like her as if the power flows through her hands to his but it looks like he's totally lost it until after they talk to the Analyst then you see them zooming around seperately so yes he can fly again now. What???

Damn, Cobra Kai made 4 seasons?? I watched a bit of the first ep and got bored and forgot about it. Would you say it's honestly worth watching? I was never a huge fan of the Karate Kid in the first place, but the concept sounded interesting, with the former bully Daniel-san crane-kicked in the face as the hero now, right?

Back to The Matrix, imo Reloaded was not overall as bad as people make it out to be, the fight choreography as noted, was fucking astounding with 2 of the best fight scenes in movie history as far as I am concerned. Even the 'attack of the smith-clones' fight was pretty decent. It's more the completely unneeded Zion rave/orgy, the lack of detail about Zion in general and the mostly unsatisfying ending that really sucked in it.

It wasn't until Revolutions that it really tanked hard with very little to redeem it story or choreography wise, but at least it came to a strong conclusion.....or so we thought.

I love Cobra Kai-- it's one of my most favorite shows right now. But ... If the Karate Kid isn't your thing, then it might not be for you? The show has been really successful in making old fans happy while also appealing to new fans, though. I would at least recommend checking out the first season and deciding from there. All of the seasons are only 10 episodes each, 30 minutes each. It's at least a quick watch?

And I liked The Matrix: Reloaded well enough when it first came out, but Revolutions kind of ruined it for me, as the movie doesn't stand on its own. No matter how many bad Matrix sequels there are, the first Matrix movie will always be able to stand on its own, which is why it's still a great movie in my eyes.

I didn't HATE Karate Kid, It was fine as a popcorn movie but I just didn't think it was the big deal that others seemed to find it. I still remember 'wax on, wax off' and a few other Pat Morita gems though. I think I'll hit TPB and grab the first season of Cobra Kai and give it a proper chance.

The first Matrix was absolutely mind-blowing in concept if you weren't spoilt on the details beforehand, and the 'what is the matrix?' ad campaign was brilliantly done, making you want to see the movie and find out. It could have (and probably should have) stayed as a stand-alone movie.

Some of the very best SF/action movies are like this. They could not and did not try make trilogies of them. Can you imagine how bad it would have been and watering down of it's impact for a movie like The Fifth Element to have shit out 2 or more sequels?

I'm no movie buff but I remember the hand to hand combat scenes in Batman Begins being mostly muddy and unreadable (Which was a shame in an otherwise awesome film). Maybe that's where it came from?

Or take it in the direction of Animatrix where it's disconnected stories about randos. Focusing on the One in the sequels did not work for those movies. He's a static character at that point.

I like trash movies.

Robocop 3, Ice Pirates, shit like that.

I like boring movies.

This...

Fucking dinosaurs died to create the electricity to film this fucking travesty.

The fight scenes were fucking garbage. The gunfire was lacking. There was no weight to the combat. Nobody was ever in any danger. Seriously, you never felt like anyone was in any danger whatsoever.

Worst of all, it was boring.

When the best part is realizing that Neo was rocking the John Wick DLC from Payday 2, and Evil Doogie Houser was supposed to be the villain.

It had probably the worst choreography I've seen in a movie.

The fucking Last Jedi had better.

This movie was such a steaming pile of shit it collectively damaged every movie that comes after it.

And the only trans thing about the movie was people kept jumping out windows.
