The Mining Pit

Is that likely to happen?
Coin-Hive can revoke API keys, that's about it. But I bet there's gonna be more busy with every website defacer, DB dumper or spammer embedding their own miners into unsuspecting websites.

Without power leveling myself I know a lot about Riccardo Spagni (the face of the FOSS group maintaining Monero). He will not flinch at any accusations of monero being a "drug pedo coin" and technically speaking the idea of pool rejecting blocks is hilarious. Before there were JavaScript website miners for Monero it was (and still is) called a "botnet coin" since it is the coin to mine on a CPU (most profitable GPU coin changes constantly).

can we have the option to enable it on mobile? I'm usually on while on break, using tablet/phone, but I'd like to let it run.

That was the joke.

Also since we're talking about that dev, despite calling himself "Fluffypony," he denies being a brony.

Mentioned on this plebbit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/3xnmok/fluffy_pony_on_this_weeks_bitcoin_uncensored/

Anyway if you Google him by real name and nick, you will turn up all kinds of funny stuff. He might even be threadworthy himself.

It would not generate enough hashes to even be worth it, I don't think. How many hashs/s is it showing on this when you try the demo? https://coin-hive.com/

I'm conflicted about people trying to mine aggressively via their browsers. If you really wanted to support the site, you'd give money. If you really wanted to convert your electricity (assuming you pay for it) into an effective donation you'd probably want to use proper miner against a mining pool with lower fees that Coin-Hive.
The thing is people are lazy. People are too lazy to register on coinbase, they're too lazy to send cash by mail, they're just lazy. This is the happy medium. This is being lazy and contributing at the same time. If there are technical or ethical issues why you object to lazy contributing to the site, you can dial it off and call it a day.

I don't have the luxury of choice. I can't switch between Adsense and Monero and decide which is better. I can't plug into Redbubble and let people buy hoodies. I can't open a Paypal donation form. I can't go to Patreon and encourage people to contribute monthly. I can't run a donation form without people charging $11,000 in a an hour using stolen credit cards. I don't have options, and the methods I've presented for people to contribute to the site are not being utilized frequently enough to sustain even the site's monthly expenses. As I outlined in a prior post, this is very close to a breaking point. I cannot lose money forever hosting this site. Either something works out, or I have to give up.

Ironically, the end may not come from my stalkers, it may come from people shitting themselves and doing nothing -- and that's probably the most fitting way to have it end.

Fluffypony (that's what we call him, no one actually calls him Riccardio) has straight up adopted DeRose of saying that "he's a scammer that doesn't know it yet", the logic being everyone is a scammer, whether they know it or not. Meanwhile he actively tells people to not buy Monero.

There was one good story where he announce he was going to make a big huge market shifting announcement at a conference only to reveal absolutely nothing and mocked all the traders in the room (and watching on stream) for engaging with blatant shilling while reminding everyone that the Monero project is FOSS and has open meeting minutes.

That said, DeRose is probably more lulzcow worthy. He actively portrays himself as a troll, and does a decent job being aggressive with people (which is important) but actually isn't very good as a presenter (the bar is low in crypto). He's actually wrote a few articles for Brietbart under their tech section. There was the time he broke up with his former "butt-buddy" (aka cohost) Junseth where he dumped his meme coin (literally PEPE) they were meming about on the show so he could renovate his kitchen and thus "broke the trust of the community".

I honestly feel that you're misunderstanding by calling it laziness. There are a lot of people that use this site, probably most people, that can barely understand what a windows is. This "bitcoin" thing is far beyond their comprehension, they can't even understand what it means. These are people that would happily input their debit card numbers into paypal if it meant keeping this site running, unfortunately Sam has been successful in denying us this option.

I happily paid for supporters status by using a gift card back when we could accept donations through Visa. Plenty of people would donate but coinbase requires an ID which a lot of people are understandably too skiddish to give. Vodrak's goal has been to make it as difficult as possible to donate to this site and in that regard he's succeeded. There's a ton of money that the site is missing out on because there's no way to get it to you.

The mining is a great idea but I just want to make sure you realize that there are a lot of people that would give money to keep this site running if we can find a way that Sam can't ruin.

Such a thing does not exist in a convenient package. Nothing stops people from physically mailing money to me except for the effort involved.

Be wary...Your enemies like Vordrak may mail you dead hookers. I hope you have some way to pay for extra security on your mail, or a way to only except envelops.

This has to be the most autistic way to give money to someone. Whitelisted.

I usually keep my computers running 24 hours a day, and might actually generate a dollar or two per month now.

running it now.
I don't get Bitcoin, can't wrap my mind around how to even start with it. I bought supporters status with a prepaid debit. Giving an id of some sort didn't worry me really- technically it was just easy, whereas I don't know even what to do with bitcoin and I really AM too lazy to educate myself about it. mailing cash seems like a guaranteed way to throw money away completely, I've had cash/cards stolen and lost in the mail here and there.

OK after running it while typing out this reply, it's up to over one hash. I have no idea what it means and if that's good or bad. I'm on phone now- but my tablet has more resources than this does.

If you're also interested in donating via bitcoin a way to start is:

Using a Lamassu brand ATM which allows you to buy bitcoins with cash. To do so only requires the use of a QR code that can be scanned via a mobile app like copay or coinomi. No further details are required if you're concerned about privacy.

copay doesn't require an email address, phone number or address. You do need to write down or inpute somewhere safe a phrase to access the app if things go wrong, though.

https://copay.io

https://coinomi.com

https://coinatmradar.com (An equivalent of google maps that details various bitcoin ATM, some also show ethereum & dogecoin access as well.)

*Edited to make it slightly more germane and coherent.

As one of the people who've put off donating I can say that a lamassu ATM (at least in Australia) only requires a QR code to scan and a copay address on your mobile phone (which would give one access) doesn't require an email address, phone number or address. Considering I spend a year where paid about $10 a month for a streaming service I barely used I don't have an excuse. I just got caught up in the ICO hype I guess. I'll probably try to rectify the situation next month.

I have no idea what you just said.

A consumer grade laptop will mine about 15h/s. It's seriously not worth draining batteries to allow mining on phones. It's not even worth your electricity. I won't disrespect you like that by even making it an option.

Hey, thanks for telling us. It's rare to see site owners being so transparent with their userbase nowadays. I'll add an exception to my adblocker for this site. You're a rad dude, Null.

But for people to be able to mail things to you, wouldn't you have to make your location public? What if Sam sends you boxes full of his poop?

No. I have a virtual office in Fort Walton Beach that I use for practical reasons. They will put mail over a period into a box and ship it at the end of the month, or whenever I request if I want to expedite something.
