Slightly off-topic since it's the Basketball world cup finals but Team USA didn't get a silver medal and lost against...Canada.

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Mikal Bridges pulled off an overtime-forcing miracle. It wasn’t enough to keep the U.S. from heading home from the World Cup empty-handed, and after 87 years of waiting Canada has again medaled on one of basketball’s biggest stages.

Dillon Brooks scored 39 points, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 31 points and 12 assists and Canada won its first medal at a global men’s tournament since 1936 by topping the U.S. 127-118 in the third-place game in Manila on Sunday.

The U.S. failed to medal for the second consecutive World Cup. It’s only the seventh time in 38 appearances at the Olympic or World Cup level that an American team did not emerge with gold, silver or bronze.

“The United States hasn’t won the World Cup since 2014,” U.S. coach Steve Kerr said. “It’s hard. These teams in FIBA are really good, well-coached, they’ve got continuity and they’ve played together for a long time. This is difficult and it’s been difficult already.”
Yup, the same Steve Kerr who was the Golden States Warriors coach and had gone Anti-Trump. Looks like the Trump curse strikes again. :story:

I'm so hype for the season to start, can't fucking wait; seems like half the teams in the league will be interesting, and 2/3rd decent enough to watch on a night by night basis. Seems like we're in a golden age right now, to bad normal fags think the NBA is unwatchable because "nobody plays defense.", their loss!

It's Dame time in Milwaukee!

Seeing Damian Lillard in a Bucks uniform is funny, since I was told that he himself said he wanted to go play for the Miami Heat with Jimmy Butler. Either way, I’m not sure if this will calm down rumors that the Knicks are trying to get Giannis to play with them next year if Joel Embiid says “NO” to them and goes back to the Sixers, but we will see what happens.

Even ESPN is suggesting that they are now the fourth team in the league overall with the highest chance of winning the NBA Finals next year.

Just wanted to say that while the 2023-24 NBA season technically started yesterday with two games — (Suns vs. Warriors/Lakers vs. Nuggets), the actual season starts tonight with both Celtics vs. Knicks and Mavericks vs. Spurs

Either way, I must admit that ESPN’s advertisement for NBA’s season opener was pretty trippy:

Not that anyone cares, but it turns out that today officially marks 20 years since LeBron James played his first game as a rookie in the NBA:

Now, he’s currently facing the Sacramento Kings as an old, though new, member of the L.A. Lakers

It was fun watching LeBron get his shit pushed in by the Nuggets after talking trash about Jokic. That 70-foot alley-oop in the game against the Grizzlies was so fast that the camera missed it.

Watching Jokic just never gets boring. I've never seen anyone quite like him. The way he effortlessly dominates the paint, one moment, and then drains a 3 pointer, the next, is without equal. Pair that with Murray, MPJ, KCP and Gordon and you have an almost perfectly balanced starting 5. Very difficult to see anyone beating them over 7 games.

Meant to post yesterday, but the Beard is now a Clipper:

Also, the NBA In-Season Tournament is ongoing tonight, and I like to think that that tournament is basically a participation trophy contest. I’ll update more on this thread to see who won and who lost, since it‘s a single game tournament.
One of the funniest moments in NBA history: "I'M KING KONG, BITCH!!!" pounds chest, BLAOW!

These compilations are pretty great too:

Who do you think will win Most Valuable Participator in the tournament?

This is how the NBA In-Season Tournament works, and honestly it was confusing for me to figure it out at first:

The Western and Eastern Conference are divided into three categories for their respective teams

This is what the schedule looked like, as it dates from November 3rd:

Group Play Schedule for the East

Group Play Schedule for the West

The NBA’s official website goes into more detail, but I highlighted some of the important points:

Eight teams (four per conference) will advance from Group Play into the second stage of the In-Season Tournament, the Knockout Rounds. The advancing teams will be the six group winners and two “wild cards” (the team from each conference with the best record in Group Play games that finished second in its group). The tiebreaker procedures are available here.

The Knockout Rounds will consist of single-elimination games in the Quarterfinals (Monday, Dec. 4 and Tuesday, Dec. 5), Semifinals (Thursday, Dec. 7) and Championship (Saturday, Dec. 9). The national broadcast schedule for the Knockout Rounds will be announced at a later date.
Each of the 22 teams that do not advance to the Quarterfinals of the In-Season Tournament will be assigned two regular-season games (one home game and one away game) that will be played on Wednesday, Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 8. A formulaic approach will determine the matchups for these 22 games using the Group Play standings in each conference (fifth through 15th).

Two of the 22 games will be scheduled cross-conference because there will be an odd number of teams in each conference that do not advance to the Quarterfinals. These cross-conference games will be scheduled between bottom-finishing teams in Group Play subject to travel constraints, and no team will play more than one of its two games cross-conference. The other 20 games will be scheduled within conference featuring teams that are otherwise scheduled to play each other three times over the course of the season wherever possible.

I’ve said this before, but this honestly looks like a participation trophy contest. The wins from this tournament will also count towards regular season standings, except for the Championship.

My guess is that this is possibly due to increasing ratings for some of the lesser known teams that are not the Warriors, Lakers or Celtics.

Is the league ever gonna do anything about this rabid chimp Draymond, suspend his ass for a year already. The most niggeriffic nigger in the game
