The Negative Effects Of Positive Reinforcement

I'm a heavy user of thunk and optimistic but I don't want people just using them sarcastically.

I think that people should just talk to each other. That's the point of a forum. You can't just hide on the sidelines while flinging stickers at each other and bitching about each other.

I'm being dead serious, you guys have to learn how to handle disagreements or we just cannot have political spaces on the site. It's chipping away at the core integrity of the community and it has to stop.
I'm reminded of one of the outlined "suggestions" in a number of cow-related spaces on site

something like "if the thread makes you angry go to a different thread"

I mean, I don't understand how these problems happen. Maybe it's because it's my site and I can just go into any thread and say anything I like and nobody can do anything about it, but for the most part people should feel like they can do that. I'd actually prefer people drive-by posting their honest opinions than the continual, petulant arguments that seem to be the hallmark here.

The point of these boards is as follows:
1. A&N is for propagating news stories people are interested in discussing. Current events, politics, regular sperging about the news. This board isn't public because of SEO issues.
2. Deep Thoughts is for discussing in a more serious and polite way that issues of society and philosophy. This, in theory, should be a bit of a bastion from retard noise but it seems to be the concentrated radioactive waste of retard noise.
3. Happenings is for ongoing events that are being watched and discussed as they evolve, and for which the forum's archiving can serve a general public that may find the thread elsewhere online.

In practice, these boards operate like:
1. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE CAT PARTY
2. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE TRANNIES
3. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE STICKERS & CLIQUES

it's so tiringgggggggggggggggg I just want people to get along and talk about the fucking news and agree to disagree.

Frankly, given the times I got the notion that something is breathing down your neck, and that is why you made these changes.

The only thing breathing down my neck is people bitching about this part of the site and the people in this part of the site bitching about each other. If there were feds involved I'd take my fucking check and live without giving a fuck, but I have to keep people happy.

I'd say getting angry about some things is pretty normal but any time you find yourself getting seriously pissed remember a few things:

1. You're being emotionally hijacked into potentially doing stupid shit by part of your brain
2. Anger that doesn't lead to something productive is worse than useless
3. Always ask yourself what you're ACTUALLY angry about and who really deserves your ire, if anyone

How do you use "thunk" and "optimistic" sarcastically?

Discussion would be welcome, but when most everybody says the same thing and react, it's hard to say something different.

No it's not

(see how easy that was)

There's a difference between being able to hold and voice an opinion that goes against the grain and being worried about blowback for it

keep in mind a lot of the people posting on this site (a LOT) would be considered incredibly outspoken in most areas of polite society on one or more (likely more) issues

As someone who barely knows anything about these forums, this still seems uncharacteristic.

Short of diminishing user count, or causing shit to leak into the good parts of this forum until bans are brought, I see no downside to killing political boards here. They will never and can never be serious, inherently. This isn't Forum Romanum, thank Christ. The moment for anonymous (or even non-anonymous) discussion of politics on the Internet that isn't exclusively memes, pasta, and drastic overreactions in all directions is long over. It's not even a piece of the modern Internet, its a simulacrum. That died during Bush 2 Part 2, shit, maybe it died right after 9/11. Everything since is just recursive intensifying inside the echo chamber.

To that end, I doubt I'm alone in saying that I can't imagine what "learn[ing] how to handle disagreements" could mean in this context. What disagreements? The disagreement where the one guy says the funny nigger word and the other says the funny Hitler word and then 16 retards post 3 dozen conjugations of the funny "jew" word? The disagreement where one guy posts Sam Hyde quotes and the other guy posts Twitter caps and then guy one calls guy two a SJW cuck faggot? Truly we are blessed by the towering intellectual might of guy two. All of this is FOR the reactions, it's FOR the watchers. That's how this works. By weight, there's zero disagreement in the political forums here and pretty much everywhere else on the Internet, because there's no argument and counterargument. There's no context, no subtext, no connected narrative of ideas. It's all devoid of meaning, disconnected from reality, and totally apart from the events that created the response posts in the first place. Nor is there room for any of that. Because...why bother? Chances are low you'll learn anything, and less than zero that you'll change a mind.

A huge amount of user complaints and the driving force behind gay autistic private DM chain feuds seems to be stickers. If it's all for show and I make the show boring, maybe these boards will slow down and be more useful. The worst that happens is nothing changes and I'm forced to consider alternatives that involves politician discussion not being a part of the forum. Little experiments like this can only possibly stand to benefit these communities based on what it stands to lose right now.

If they seem out of character it's because it is out of character. It wasn't my idea. I'm implementing changes based on suggestions.

It'll take a while to see whether the stickers solution actually gets people to shut the fuck up about getting negrated, but as yet it seems like there's less kvetching about getting stickers -- just temporary kvetching about not having stickers. It doesn't feel great to miss my old friends thunk, lunacy, drink, and islamic content -- but it's not like I'm now dying for the inability to use them.
Things will adjust, and anyways with the infrastructure in place to have limited-effect sticker modifications, more could get added or removed over time provided the effort seems worthwhile.
This, in theory, should be a bit of a bastion from retard noise but it seems to be the concentrated radioactive waste of retard noise.
Dunning-Krugers feel they've a gift to share with the whole wide world, and are drawn as moths to the flame for the opportunity to do so.

There is some argument-counterargument here and there, but I broadly don't think that the show is necessarily over. People sperging out like retards over stickers is just one of many different ways that people chimp out, and it's potentially one of the most repetitive, least interesting, and most prone to generating pointless moderation requests. If the removal of negrating stickers leads people to still scream at each other with their words, it might also lead to more interesting chimpouts rather than the usual I'M NOT MAD, YOU'RE MAD shit

If two people are acting too autistic to each other then the best approach is to throw them in a pit with a couple of rusty hatchets, ring the bell to attract a crowd of spectators, and start taking bets. But if they only use stickers to express their autism it can be hard to spot. So maybe I want to see where this leads.
I can't do that because then a fucking petition thread pops up demanding I unban them and stop being a slave to XYZ's insidious political influence. I'm hesitant to start gunning these people down because it's going to cause a big shitfest I'm not currently in the mood to deal with.

So this is your fucking warning shot, if you're in a gay DM chain right now bitching about whoever the fuck negrated you last week and how you got your stickers taken away for abusing it on someone else. If you're one of those people, this is my olive branch. The alternative is to start aborting all of these people and you can decide what god awful politically insular bitter shitty splinter site you want to be a part of. Stop being shit.

I want to be surprised that people can be this stupidly autistic, but it's just not happening..

On balance, I wonder if the stickers should even stick around. On the one hand, they're a brain-deadening shortcut around having to argue a point (rationally or not) and seem to result in people turning shit-flinging, retarded apes when they get negrated too often. More than normal, I mean. On the other hand, they can be a relief valve for people who might otherwise go off on a terminal meltdown.

Sad. I like Cat Party. I like stickers and cliques (not trannies). I like bitching about it online too, because it’s all pretend bullshit and outside of the funnest threads to read - the ones where we all disagree violently - everyone is pretty stellar.

A&N&H is mostly just one of the few places here where I feel like I can contribute something of meaning to the conversation, although who knows, threads might get even better now that I have to use mean words instead of tiny pictures. It’s sad we need cruise control for cool on our bareknuckle boxing internet fight club. All good things, etc.

That would be nice, but I wonder how likely that is to happen with how deeply emotionally invested people are with politics now.
Stupid example: Would you be able to respectfully agree to disagree with a pedo? Or would you rather like to tell him to fuck off and kill himself with fire?
People feel that strongly for political shit these days.

That said, I don't have a solution either. Let's see how the sticker thing works out.

I want to add, another valuable reason not to destroy the autismdome:
If you do that, they're gonna go elsewhere. Let's assume that they do manage to play by the rules and don't go off-topic.
Have you seen what passes for humor among the fucking retards spazzing out over stickers? The same 3 or 4 jokes from 2015.

Rather than people just repeating them for years on fucking end in this contained little spot, now everywhere gets to enjoy erroneous comparisons of everything under the sun to 1984, the attack helicopter joke, and the black trans muslim quadruple amputee autist asexual demiqueer bipoc joke. You know, the stuff that's pretty funny and clever about the first five times you hear it, not the fiftieth. The stuff your dad finds funny on facebook.

I beg of you, don't rupture this cyst. For the good of people stumbling on to KF and not immediately rolling their eyes out of their sockets before they look at the explicit crotchwound pictures.
