I can't wait to listen to hours of commentary on which linebacker going in the 5th round will be a better player in the NFL before completely forgetting about all of them as none of them will be in the league in 5 years
Not to mention the countless sob stories of the player being the oldest/youngest of x siblings with a single mom since the dad died/ran off/went to jail.

EDIT TO AVOID DOUBLEPOST: Falcons GM Ian Cunningham has told Kirko Chainz that he will be released on March 11th.

Jesus. RIP

Makes the thing I came here to bitch about seem petty, but I like to bitch.
Did anyone else know this was a thing? The NFL literally gives teams free mid round draft picks if you have staff who are picked for HC or GM positions and they are whatever the NFL considers a minority.

Even the Chicago GM is getting weird vibes from it. It sounds like a Boondocks subplot

I only remember that rule cause the Dolphins got those mid round picks when they hired Mike McDaniel.

Sadly, yes, I'm very familiar. John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have been using them to feast on day 2-3 and terrorize the rest of the division.

It's more or less official, the Falcons will be releasing Kirk Cousins and just eating the cap hit.

I can't even call this Falconing, I'm just amused that Kirk Cousins is going to go down as a Generational Bag Securer. Now watch him go back to Minnesota on the cheap or something...
No trade, no nothing??? Literally the worst possible outcome, we could've at least gotten some fringe values out of the Cards, Viks, or Jets. And if we don't trade him then at least we can retain the 'best backup in the NFL' title. Cunningham, not a good way to kick things off. God dammit.

If Robert Saleh spent more than a year with the 9ers this time they would have gotten compensation for him again. Two teams should make an agreement and swap back and forward over a decade.

There are some stupid NFL GMs, but I don't think there are any stupid enough to trade into a contract for a late 30's QB with a bum achilles, who was an upper-mid system guy at his peak, who is due $70 million in 2027. Best (realistic) case, he gets you a year of average QB play and mentors the fuck out of whoever you draft, and plays just well enough to sucker another team into also trading for whatever his contract looks like after you restructure it post-trade. Worst case, abysmal play, you give up assets to essentially do the Falcons a favor, and have cap issues up the wazoo for a few seasons.

Even Kirk knows this, the only reason his contract is structured the way it is is to make it easier for the Falcons to cut him, eat the dead cap, and he can go try and snooker a different team this spring without all the contract baggage.

Anyways, looks like Illinois is now scrambling to not lose their piggybank. The reddit discussion of this is hilarious, since it's chock full of retards screeching about billionaires getting taxpayer-funded stadiums and then mumbling something akin to "ok, w-well, it's still bad tho" when people point out the Bears were always paying for the stadium, they just didn't trust the state of Illinois to not ludicrously over-value the property tax assessment so the team was functionally underwater.

Counterpoint - the New York Jets exist. Though I believe that one would depend on Kirko’s Madden Rating…
