We've been there for awhile now. Around a month ago I was seeing RG3 make tweets not so subtly that implying this, but that's not particularly shocking from him.

I can't remember who it was, but someone made a Twitter thread regarding which of the following (Lamar, Burrow, Herbert, Lawrence and someone else who I can't recall) people would give the biggest contract extension to and pretty much every reply choosing Lamar as the top choice was using arguments like "The one who has won an MVP." Forget the other things to consider like play style which is a bigger injury factor, actual injury history and which guy seems to have a lot of empty space between his ears.

If this does end up being some long drawn out thing that permeates the mainstream like Kaepernick did, the one thing that might take some wind out of the sails is for as dumb as Kaepernick is he at least doesn't come off as obviously stupid as Jackson does, and as you mentioned it's pretty easy to point to guys like Watson, Wilson and Mahomes (the face of the league) as guys who didn't exactly have problems getting paid.

Why do people look at the MVP as some kind of spectacular accomplishment? It would be if he maintained that level of production since then, but every year since he's been worse and worse. Burrow is the one who would get the highest contract from me simply because he's 5-2 in the playoffs in just two years compared to Lamar's 1-3 with arguably a better team around him than Burrow has. Only thing Burrow has that Lamar doesn't is a number 1 receiver, but Baltimore's defense, O-line, running game, and TE game is better than the Bengals. Hell, they barely beat Baltimore this year in the playoffs with our backup QB.

Rodgers winning MVP was an accomplishment because he did it back to back at his age and with not much talent around him. But he has shown that he can do it at a consistent level with much less risk of injury. Also, would much rather deal with Rodgers off-season shenanigans than this bullshit. Fucking packers fans deciding they want Rodgers gone don't realize what real off field drama looks like

Exactly, Rodgers is consistently great with often times average tools around him. He's a QB that elevates talent around him and makes him an MVP in his late 30s. Lamar stumped a league for one year and people are still treating him like he has been playing at that level since and his head has gotten even bigger because of it.

This is the same argument people used about Cam Newton when he won MVP. Do it on a consistent basis. One great year doesn't define a career

Cam was... consistently above average through most of his Panthers career. He was great his MVP year, and then went back to being consistently above average. Is Lamar even above average most of the time?

Don't let Kurt Warner hear you, he's really sensitive about this. Rich Gannon won an MVP and most NFL fans now probably have no idea who he is.

I'd put him as a top 15 QB when he's on the field, but Cam was way more of an iron man than Lamar is. That's the difference. It wasn't until 2019 that Cam really fell off and couldn't play a full season.

Right, and he ran 1/4 as much as Lamar does. So we're looking at what? MAYBE 4 more years of prime Lamar before his body is shot to shit? That is unless he learns how to read defenses and throw the ball more accurately with consistency.

It's his planting leg that keeps getting bits of it sprained, so we're already in the decline process. I give it 2 years at most.
I understand completely why Lamar's being such a stickler about guarantees, but if I were in his position I'd just take a short-term guaranteed deal and hope that proper training and a gallon of Toradol can extend my longevity instead of beclowning myself demanding Deshaun Watson's contract, at minimum.

All I remember about the Panthers during the Cam/Ron era is they were always 6-10 then magically got good one year and went to the Super Bowl before turning to shit again.

Ron Rivera is one of the biggest fraud Head Coaches in the league right now. He's regarded as a good coach for some reason but in 12 years of coaching, he only has 3 winning seasons. That's horrible. I hope the Redskins never fire him since it gives the Giants a reliable punching bag.

The Panthers did make the Divisional round both of the two years before that Super Bowl, but in hindsight he was totally carried by Cam, because the Panthers falling off coincides directly with when he did, and Rivera's done fuck all in Washington. His specialty is defense and that roster's been performing under their boasted talent level his entire tenure there.

Lowkey I think if he coached for any other owner besides Dan Snyder, one who wasn't cheap as hell/trying to leech off his good reputation for the team/in stasis pending a sale, the last two seasons would've either ended in him getting fired or being strongly pressured to retire. He looked out of it, resigned, and bored as hell in interviews this year.

The 2014 year was a fluke though. Their division was ass and won it with a 7-8-1 record. Then they get lucky to play the Cardinals limping in with their horrible 3rd string backup who couldn't even get 100 yards of offense. I also think the fall off coincides with Dave Gettleman running the team into the ground. I've seen enough of his work with the Giants to know he probably was destroying the team.

I only saw the interview where he somehow didn't realize his team could get eliminated week 17. I was shocked a coach didn't know this since playoffs are kind of important then people in the media were giving excuses for him!

Well, you see, he's Lamar.

He turned down that $133m guaranteed deal from the Ravens which would have put him at number two in terms of guaranteed money at the moment.

But he has to have the number one contract in the league.

We could talk about a lot of issues with Lamar, like how he hasn't been able to play a full season or how mobile QBs deteriorate quickly after injuries pile up but that's ignoring the fact that this dude straight up wants, literally, a contract even worse than a contract that everyone else thought was the dumbest idea of all time.

Which is why all these talks about other teams "should" make a play for Lamar, is just retarded. His wage demands are outrageous for someone who doesn't play in December and January

Speaking about 3rd overall picks, the Lions sent cornerback Jeff Okudah (taken in the 2020 draft) to the Falcons today for a 5th rounder.

In bigger news, Odell Beckham Jr. ended up signing with the Ravens on Sunday and apparently it was Lamar Jackson who recruited him. It's a one year deal worth $15 million that could max out to $18 million through incentives.

$14m of it is a signing bonus. Lamar got his boy a nearly guaranteed contract.

Lamar probably blowing up the phones of the Bucs front office wondering where the corpse of Julio Jones is buried so he can pull off his next magic trick.

It looks like Lamar is trying to work his way into playing one year and then signing a contract somewhere under his terms. Still retarded and probably going to blow up in his face but who knows
