Man I don't even...how...how in the fuck? How do you tell Team C to screw off, make it clear for an entire day "Its either going to be Team A or Team B", then end up picking Team C anyway? How fam? TELL ME HOW?! Like, I accepted that Deshaun may go back to ATL because its home. But this!? What is this BS?! Deshaun basically just told everyone, its not about Home, or the Ring, its about the money. That was his only motivator, and neither NO or ATL could pay him that.

I guess the only upside I can see from all this is this:
So at the end of the week the #Saints kept their draft picks, key players, and now have 30 million in cap space?

I mean, holy crap, we ended up better off than any other team that tried to go for Watson, all of which basically screwed themselves in the attempt. ATL basically ain't going to be good for another decade. And Free Agency basically stopped till Watson made his choice in where he went, so we didn't miss anything there.

Now the real issue for the Saints is figuring out who's gonna quarterback. Winston is still on the table, but I hope they don't overpay him or give him a long term contract. There's also Jimmy G and I guess Baker Mayfield, but are any of them better than Winston. And, of course, the Saints aren't the only ones looking for a quarterback: Seattle, Carolina, and Indy are also looking for quarterbacks. The difference for the Saints is that you could put any middling quarterback in place and the Saints would make the playbooks, maybe win the division, possibly make the Super Bowl, because the team itself is that good. But we need a quarterback who won't hurt us down the stretch.

It looks like Winston is coming back which should be good for you guys. Probably aren't going to overpay for him.

Jimmy G and Baker are now 2 QBs looking for spots in a market that quickly dried up. Who is on the market right now that would be worth going to? I only see the Colts as a decent option. Seattle, Carolina, and potentially Atlanta are options yeah but they aren't great destinations with any chance of winning. And if Atlanta is looking for new spots that means Matt Ryan enters the market
 
I think there will be karma coming down on Cleveland for this. Seems like a very bad idea to dump 230 mil on a QB with 22 pending civil charges. Can definitely see Mayfield getting traded somewhere and having success, and Cleveland facing backlash from the media and possible suspensions for Watson once his legal troubles come to light. Whether or not Watson actually did anything illegal does not matter, if public perception has an outcry the NFL will shut him down.
 
What has Deshaun done to earn this kingship the NFL seems to have bestowed upon him? Dude had a couple of average seasons in Houston, and one really bad one, yet he's got a no-trade clause and is literally sitting on a throne while teams prostrate themselves at his feet while offering him bags of cash. Is having a serial rapist under center a badge of honor now?

A lot of that is simply due to the fact that Houston just sucks and always has, and both its Front and Back office is a mess. There really is no doubt that Deshaun Watson is the best quarterback in the NFL right now. Despite having been in the league only a few years, he already has 19 NFL records by himself and 10 Texans team records. The man's credentials are really not in doubt, and he really was the best quarterback on the market, bar none. The last year he played for Houston, the man had 4,823 passing yards (the most in the NFL), 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His season was, by all statistical measures, the best in franchise history, leading in passing touchdowns, passing yards and passer rating. Houston still went 4-12.
 
I'm sorry, but "best quarterback in the NFL right now" because he put up better numbers than Matt Schaub and David Carr? Someone better tell Brady to go back into retirement, the real GOAT just got unleashed up in Cleveland!

The guy was putting up better numbers than Tom Brady or Drew Brees, both of whom were playing the last year he played for Houston. With the league as it is now, he is by far the best quarterback out there and is definitely better than any of the other quarterbacks available. Put him on a good team like the Saints and they are instant contenders for Super Bowl titles.
 
Watson isn't the best QB in the NFL right now. He isn't even top tier. But he is that next tier of QB who is 26 years old which is the big part.
The most important position to every team is the QB, hands down. The Colts had one of the best teams in the league last year and couldn't get into the playoffs because their QB shit the last 2 weeks. Mayfield was hurt all year and the Browns went 8-9 after winning a playoff game last year. There aren't 32 people on the planet who can do what Kirk fucking Cousins can do at the QB position and he is average at best. So when you get a 26 year old who is the next best tier of QB and wants to come to your team, you trade draft capital and pay him a shit ton of money in order to secure his services for as long as possible.

As for the worry about him dealing with suspension problems, his base salary year 1 is $1 mil. So the browns have it covered.

Feel free to disagree about QB listings but just know you are wrong

People are definitely letting the fact that he dragged a trash fire Texans team to a 4-12 record, after losing DHop and BOB getting fired mid-season, go to their heads. It was a breakout performance but he was solidly average the year beforehand and hasn't taken a snap in over a year now.
After yesterday's news I will concede that time will tell, but I wouldn't take it as a guarantee he lights things up this fall.

Idk how to work the tiering thing that everyone does, but if someone could make one of those tiering links to tier the current NFL QBs, that would be really helpful to let everyone know how this will play out

Reportedly, he wants to go to the Colts. Of course, there are several other teams looking for quarterbacks. The Saints will consider Winston their first option; he's also got an offer from the Colts. The only reason I see him not going there is if he asks the Saints for a long term deal or too much money. The Colts may get him instead. Then there's Seattle and Carolina, who both need quarterbacks bad. Then there's Atlanta, who may have burned their bridges with Matt Ryan, and may also be looking for a quarterback, but its uncertain yet.
