Thinking about what can be done to resolve this. I think the problem might be the concept of "team doctors" who have some incentive to keep the team's best players on the field. Why not have the league hire a cadre of their own docs, give them special training in concussions and the like, and then have one or two at each game with the power to override each team's docs and pull a guy out of the game, at least temporarily for further inspection, if it looks like his health is at risk? This seems like an obvious enough idea that I presume that it's already been discussed and dismissed by the league; is it just that they couldn't get the teams to sign off on it?

Something needs to change. Slightly improving helmet designs every couple years is only going to get us so far.

As far as I know, it's an independent doctor clearing you to play, team doctor just confirms after him.

Because even the league themselves have incentive to keep the star players on the field.

"Team doctors" is something you'd think the players unions would fight hard against. Conflict between what the team docs say and what other docs say has been a huge factor with at least 2 hockey stars in the last couple years, Eichel and Tarasenko.

At minimum, team docs should be fucking gone, and players should have the option of using their own or the unions.

I wonder if the NFLPA will accept this random dude as the fall guy for the terrible decision to play Tua after a concussion or if they will push this further. Clearly this fall guy was not the one making decisions and I doubt he said it was a "back injury" or whatever. The dolphins were the ones who made the call and people within the organization pushed it, just don't know if that will be pushed to find out everything
