That's a big part of it. People know DTs but they don't really pay attention to O-Linemen unless they're fucking up and then the fans start calling for their heads.

If you've got the build for it and want a chance at glory then the choice would be pretty obvious.

Franchise tackles are already paid on par with premium edge rushers. Interior linemen not named center have about the same average salary as your prototypical defensive tackle.
I wonder if the O-line isn't due some kind of overhaul akin to a 3-4 vs 4-3 defense. I have no idea if the rules allow for that kind of offensive flexibility as currently written. We've already seen teams going heavy tight end to bolster a pass play.

I just wonder at what point do teams decide to start protecting their star QB by investing even more money into the offensive line? At some point, the money just becomes too much for players to ignore

I don't think you can necessarily change the offensive line but I think offenses will adapt to this more and change things around. It just has to happen at some point where offenses punish these edge rushers severely or just start absolutely breaking down these defenses to the point that everything shifts again

You can already see some of this in the league with TEs and power backs doing pass pro sometimes.

Though I think the problem was most highlighted in the Bucs vs Steelers game where Steelers were dropping 7 into coverage and still pressuring Brady. Not really a whole lot you can do there.

I wonder how much offenses will start to turn into runs and short screens with all these dropping back into coverage schemes. I see that as a way to stop these insane pass defenses but I have no fucking idea

I mean, Bill Belichick's been doing this for years. For whatever reason, attempts to imitate this hasn't panned out. Bill doesn't mind letting a 3rd round rookie RB or a past-his-prime WR get the glory if he's scoring the game winning TD in the Superbowl.

Seems like a lot of his success comes from getting players (especially QBs) to act right.

The Broncos almost always give Russ a checkdown option but he just stands there like a dumbass staring at a receiver on a deep route until he gets sacked. Burrow does the same shit.

We also have like half the league playing soft zone on D and that's kryptonite for QBs like Russ.
 
Andy Dalton is may be starting but Famous Jameis is in the statline in spirit.
 
Christian McCaffrey traded to the 49ers for their 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks in 2023, and a 5th rounder in 2024.
