How was the draft for the Seahawks?
A little more questionable than last year's picks, but still trending in a good direction. Neither CB nor WR were big positions of need to pick in the first round, but if Witherspoon isn't a bust we have one of the scariest defensive back groups in the league, and our WR room is similarly set now with JSN. We're definitely in for some Peteball as he took 2 RBs in this draft, including spending our 2nd on it. I'm a little bummed we spent so long to really address the trenches, not getting to it until day 3 and grabbing none of the top-tier edge rushers. We did get the consensus best Center in the draft though, so that's nice.

I don't know if many of you guys watch Bleacher Reports Youtube channel, but they have a series called Gridiron Heights and it's very entertaining. This is their first "episode" for the season and I just wanted to see if y'all liked it.

The NFL also passed Thursday flex scheduling late into the year which fucks fans over.

Goodell is also trying to do everything he can to get rid of the kickoff with that new rule change.

I really hate Goodell

Did the NFL really put games behind a paywall? I saw they were considering it but there is no way they are that dumb right?
Peacock got rights to a LAC-BUF game and a wild card playoff game. The announcement is super fucking confusing though. I think it might still be broadcast over the air if you have a TV with an antenna?

Hopefully it's a giant failure and the NFL stops this shit and doesn't continue down this path.

I was considering finally paying Fubo.tv or something to get the Redzone package this fall. Between the ridiculous YouTube TV pricing and the fact that they locked a game on Peacock, I'm fine dealing with pirate streams for another season.

Professional sports in general are some of the most consumer-unfriendly bullshit I've ever seen.

I've pretty much been doing sportsurge and NFL+ for the all-22 so you can find out exactly how retarded your OC is.

The NFL's whole streaming experiment doesn't seem to be working out so hot thus far since TNF just slowly bled viewers, although that might've been their fault since they kept shoving the Broncos on there.

I'm sure Al Michaels forever shitting on the games after that Broncos-Colts abomination contributed to it as well. I'm actually surprised he's still calling it this upcoming season. TNF getting the flex treatment after last year didn't surprise me at all, but Amazon retaining their announcers sure af did.

Will enjoy illegally streaming these games specifically to ruin the NFL

Its unreal. Professional sports are an amazing product run by absolute morons. You literally should be doing everything in your power to get as many eye balls on it and then sell sponsorships. Related to this but different sports, the English Premier League as a soccer league use to just give their product away for basically free to broadcasters like 20 years ago. It hit a niche and became insanely popular to the point that anyone in that league is insanely rich compared to everyone else. Why the NFL isn't trying to just plastering their league on as many channels as possible and selling advertisements on their sports along with other channels is beyond me. CBS and Fox gets the premier noon and 3:25 game, then sell the rights to the lesser games/home team game to a local channel affiliate or get TNT/TBS involved. Then ABC gets the Sunday night, ESPN gets the Monday night game. Then either sweeten the TNT/TBS deal by giving them Thursday night games or switch off the Thursday night games between Fox and CBS. These games should be easily accessible to people, not hard to find. Don't give a shit about streaming services. NFL redzone should be the only streaming service for the games as a way to watch whichever game you want or rewatch them instead of having to record them. God Goodell is a retard

NBC paid them $110m for two exclusive games, so...

Still better than MLB which I gave up on since I can't even watch my team anymore.

e: was bored and looking up receiving statistics. Mike Evans (who is incredibly consistent) needs three more seasons to break Jerry Rice's record of consecutive 1k receiving yards seasons, and then, like, uh...seven more after that or so at the same production to break the all-time receiving yards record.

Jerry Rice was inhuman.

These league succeeds despite the best efforts of the executives, players, and owners. The owners are so levered up they need to get money coming in and the players spend money like the 6 mil a year contract they signed is a 6 mil check they get right away. Can't believe I still enjoy this game. I just hope the packers suck for a while so I can stop paying attention

Rice ran up the Santa Cruz mountains every day as his morning jog. That's a 3500' elevation gain. Even pro runners were shocked at his conditioning routine. Man was an animal.

Reminder that Goodell was once an intern of the New York Jetsat one point before being commissioner btw

Something I would like to bring up here. The NFL is in a position stuck between the players with GIANT platforms who want to really push safety and NFL fans who want people to be blown the fuck out. It's kind of a pickle. Removing the kickoff is probably not going to happen in the near future due to the bad publicity, I wouldn't be surprised though if people cry about it and do nothing to protest the removal of it. Goodell is going to limit the kick off though to the best of his ability.

I don't think many players are happy about getting rid of the kickoff. The majority of everyone in the league hates the rule change. When I hear players talk about safety, they usually want to play on grass or more benefits after they retire. Most of the safety talk comes from the league because they don't want to get sued in the future.

If they want to make the play safer, I think the XFL changes the play where players are closer (10 yards apart?) so they can't hit full speed and collide with each other. But the NFL would have to admit another league did something better so that will never happen.

As much as they want to make the game safer, it's always going to be an inherintly violent sport unless it becomes flag football. Injuries are apart of the game and most players understand this. I'm not going to feel bad that low IQ millionares get injured, it's part of why I love watching it.

Yeah they can't really remove it because it's iconic. Everyone loves the shot of the kicking team running forwards.

Unfortunately that's all you get now. Guys in pads doing wind sprints. It won't make sense to return it unless you're really desperate and hoping for a miracle.

This rule exists in CFB and returns still happen, but the average NFL player can get to the returner a hell of a lot faster so he won't have as much field to work with.
