I have a feeling tonight's going to be a case of two young rosters appropriately losing to their conference's veteran one seed.
Not that I'd be disappointed in the slightest if the Packers proved me wrong, but Houston probably won't. Both teams super over-performed just making it this far.

EDIT: Yeah, the Texans' o-line is gassed, Stroud's throwing every other pass away right now

The calculus goes like this: a stud first-round QB is disgustingly cheap for the first five years of his contract. With all that extra cap space, a GM has flexibility to build the rest of the team as they see fit. Draft? Sure. Free agency? Definitely. Trading down in the draft for more picks? Yup. Trading away future first round picks? Absolutely.

The model to think of here is Seattle and Russell Wilson. IF you can draft that guy who can hit the ground running in Year 1, your leverage and opportunity are simply enormous for the next five years. This HOU-BAL game right now, for instance - both Jackson and Stroud were The Man right out of the gate, and that gives the FO so many more options than if that gamble goes south (lol Trubisky).

But if you're going to gamble that way, you'll want an offensive-minded HC. You need a guy who is fluent in QBese. Probably the only reason they can't get former QBs into those roles is because former QBs already have Fuck You money and don't need more 20-hour workdays for 6 months a year.

We built the team before Russ though and didn't intend for him to be anything but a backup. It was only Schneider insisting on spending a 3rd on him and the team being lucky that the Raiders would take on Matt Flynn's contract in the 2013 offseason that let that move not screw us. In fact, particularly without the Raiders trade, it probably would've cost us the 2013 Super Bowl run because we wouldn't be able to afford both Bennet and Avril's contracts (aka 3/4ths of our pass rush) with Flynn still on the books.

EDIT: yeah ok Houston's done. Good year, looking forward to see what year 2 of Ryans/Stroud looks like.
 
CJ Stroud had no time to throw the entire game. It's surprising considering how that O-Line kept Myles Garrett at bay last week and cruised with that Cleveland defense. Here's hoping the Bills knock off the Ravens

EDIT: I have zero faith in the Chiefs but if the Chiefs do win, then I'll begrudgingly root for Baltimore to make the superbowl
 
I am very much in team Anyone But The Chiefs when it comes to the AFC attendee of this year's Super Bowl.

The thing with the wild card game last week was that Cleveland didn't adjust. Schwartz kept up the constant pressure attack with LBs. Taking the LBs off of the slot receivers and allowing the lower portion of the field to be open, Stroud got the ball off quick for large gains because the DBs were too busy worried about the deep threats. By the time the DBs get to the receiver close to the line of scrimmage, the receiver is already 9 or 10 yards from where he caught it. Once some adjustments got made, Flacco throws two pick-6s in a row and the momentum shifted entirely towards Houston.

I'm not surprised that the Ravens won, but I thought it was going to be a much closer game. Baltimore has had a very dynamic defense which pairs well with their offense. I hate to give Baltimore any props, but they've just got great talented players. It's pretty hard to find a weakness to continually exploit when they keep changing their approaches to the game. It's impressive what they've built.
 
Well, Houston lost. I expected it but crossed my fingers they'd pull through because of Dallas' lost. At least the Packers are still in unless they lose too.
 
Heres hoping the Packers win but even if they lose it's been one hell of a season for a new QB.

edit so I don't double post like a fag but a good start for the packers, 3 points and didn't let the 49rs get any on their first drive. Lets hope this plays out well.

It occurred to me during the intro to the NFC game today that Greg Olsen sounds like and kind of looks like an unfunny jock version of Bill Hader.

Aren't the Niners supposed to be this vaunted defense ?

First that one DB pulls a retard tier play with that pass interference on a 3rd and motherfucking 15, and then they score a TD with no one in sight on that pass. Safety just straight up slipped.

To think that the Niners are playing at home and SF's own weather is making them eat shit and not the opposition...

Packers Defense is not letting CMac beat them and now Purdy will have to do it...but he's out here looking like maybe he was Mr. Irrelevant for a reason.

Edit: I guess CMac said, fuck that shit, I'm still doing it by myself. Also, I just heard that Deebo is out, which is probably why the Niners are having a hard time on offense.

Edit: What the fuck does it matter if you give up such huge plays on the Kickoff ?

How the fuck did Jones even get that wide open on the 2 point conversion ? That's the 2nd time that's happened this game.

I would actually be happy about the Packers beating the shit out of the Niners but I can't bring myself to root for a shitstain QB.

For whatever reason, as it stands right now, the Packers have figured out how to beat this secondary to the point where the Niners pass rush doesn't even matter.

Trent Williams out here picking up dumbass penalties too. It's well and truly ogre.

That's the second time that Purdy has overthrown an open receiver on 3rd down. I've starting to think that he's more limited than I wanted to believe. If it's a great defensive play then I get it, but missing wide open receivers like that is trash tier homey.

Edit: Niners needed an "against the run of play" situation to turn this shit around and their defense finally provided a glimmer of hope. Now I hope that Purdy doesn't fuck it up.
