Honestly had no idea he hadn't already announced his retirement. He hasn't played in years.
Probably more than any other 2000's QB, his career would look entirely different if Tom Brady never existed.
And i Elk Manning did not refuse refuse ro play for the Chargers because Rivers was the second choice of that team

I'm currently reading The Why Is Everything, a book about the generation of coaches that were all on the 2012 Redskins who went on to take over the league (the younger Shanahan, Sean McVay, Matt LaFleur, Mike McDaniel, Raheem Morris, to an extent Kevin O'Connell and Brandon Staley). I'm at the point where it's outlining the deterioration of McVay's relationship with Goff, and it explains his weird fascination with John Wolford towards the end of the 2020 season. (Remember, before trading him, he started Wolford over Goff for the playoffs and it took Wolford getting injured to bring him back)
McVay apparently told Shane Waldron that Wolford (described in the books as a textbook professional clip board holder - great in the film room, prepped all to hell, noodle-armed and inaccurate) reminded him very much of himself as a quarterback in high school (McVay didn't even make a college team as a QB because of his measurables, Miami of Ohio put him in as WR).

I got to that paragraph and literally set the book down, saying aloud "dude, the entire reason you are a coach in your mid-30's is because you weren't suited to be a NFL quarterback, why are you starting a guy who reminds you of yourself??"

Also apparently Shanny effectively got bullied into drafting Lance over Mac Jones in 2021 because it was an open secret that Jones was more his kind of a QB, and the press was floating a theory that he was actually racist b/c his QBs were always white, and he started Kirk Cousins over RGIII once the latter got injured. So Trey Lance, the smartest-seeming guy with a vaguely brown complexion, got picked because of the 2020 racial panic and because everyone not in Chicago could see that Fields already had bad habits ingrained into him.

Also also Jimmy Garoppolo basically disappears whenever he's not contractually required to be at team facilities/events and is too busy fucking strippers to pick up his phone.

Some day black men will get a fair shake in the NFL.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this guy must talk about black dick or not being African at least once a video. What the hell is this guy’s deal?? Am I just crazy?

He's married and has a young daughter that appears in his matress commercials, too. 😳 Hopefully he's just trying to be an edgelord yuck it up type.

Speaking of gay, what's up with all these male cheerleaders in the NFL now?

I still think he got Trey Lance injured on purpose since he knew Purdy was the best QB on the roster. He called a bizarre amount of QB Draw plays for a QB that didn't really have the body type to be running up the gut constantly.
I actually forgot Trey Lance existed at one point.

NYT has an interesting article about McDaniel

With a more like-minded roster, McDaniel doesn’t have to manage his messages when talking to the room. The players stopped tolerating anyone who showed up late. And McDaniel gushed over their commitment to practice, both physically and mentally. He loves to hear about the way his players have intently focused on drills even when they aren’t participating and how they all celebrate technique gains, not necessarily results.

McDaniel also stopped forcing players to run during practice for pre-snap penalties. The purpose was twofold: First, he didn’t want any unnecessary soft tissue injuries. And second, he wants them to practice at full speed, which won’t always happen if they’re jumping into the play from a gasser.

The players recognized the purpose, but they took ownership of the accountability element. So after practice, they’ll gather for sprints to make up for any mental mistakes from the session.

So the players are just coaching themselves?

I really think this is McDaniel's last season.
