The Seahawks have extended Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Wise move.
He now makes roughly $10 million more than Darnold in AAV. Really interested to see how we approach his contract this year. With the WR room we've put around him, and assuming minimal regression, he could command top market money if we chose to extend him next year and not now. And that'd be right before we're due to pay some pretty important guys on defense. Or maybe Jalen Milroe really takes a leap this summer and Schneider chooses to roll into the season with the assumption that he's got a higher ceiling athlete waiting on the wings to be the QB of the future.
I don't envy GMs this time of year, I'm amazed most of them come out of it with any hair left.

African American Vernacular?
Well, Average Annual Value IS the dumbed-down figure that the media gives to simpletons to ook and eek over instead of going into the weeds on how a team worked their latest deal to fit under salary cap rules, so maybe?

Chiefs are signing Kelce to a 3 year $54M deal

You have to bite the bullet at some point. Taking the cap hit now with a new front office and coaching staff, during a weak QB draft, getting a bridge in Willis, and building out the team while you wait on a QB is one of the logical ways to rebuild. Willis isn't there to win a Super Bowl. Everyone in that building knows they're in a rebuild.

The new coaching staff and new front office didn't want Tua. They want to build their team. The NFL is a nepotistic old boys club with a lot of ego. The Cowboys are still living in 90s because of Jerry according to players who've left and been critical of the club. On the opposite end of the spectrum, some new regimes tear down the legacies that came before them. They'll literally take down trophy cases and paint over murals at the stadium and training facility.
Late, but yeah this basically. The cracks in the Dolphins' current foundation were already starting to show in 2024, and 2025 was really the make-or-break year to see if Tua was just having an off season or if his injuries really were starting to seriously affect his performance. They probably would have sidelined him even earlier, but they simply spent too much on him to give up that quickly and held onto hope that he'd improve and that the investment wasn't a waste. It helped that he had some prior goodwill from the Dolphins' making the playoffs two years in a row prior.

Now that it's pretty clear his skills are regressing it's better to just take the L on the cap hit and try to rebuild on a budget instead of starting a QB who is mediocre at best and actively detrimental to the team at worst. At this point even a middle of the road quarterback is a smarter bet than soldiering on with Tua and watching a yearslong marathon of game-losing turnovers. It's sad, but he's probably going to go down as one of the all-time "what ifs" of the NFL. We'll never know just how good he could have been had injuries not hampered his performance on the field so early on.

Didn't his ability regresslast year?
It's a vanity contract structured in such a way that, if for whatever reason, Kelce doesn't choose to retire after next season, the Chiefs cut him post-June 1 and spread his $12M guaranteed across all 3 years of the deal. There's almost no way they pay him past his guarantees on this.
Gives him his headline which is important for reasons, as well as the flexibility to test the free market if he decides he wants to play (on another team) in 2027.

Joe Flacco re-signed with the Bengals, and the Falcons now have two Robinsons at RB.

The Rooney Rule is a joke anyway. Owners just interview some token so they can move on. The NFL is very much a who you know business. Look at how many head coach hires are already made before the old one is fired. True coaching searches aren't the norm and I'd be willing to bet most of the time they happen is because a team's 1 or 2nd choice don't work out.

TIL Andy Dalton is still in the NFL.
Because Joe Flacco keeps giving people like him life

Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco doesn't sound happy about how NFL teams viewed him this offseason.

On Tuesday, Flacco signed a one-year deal to return to the Cincinnati Bengals, where he'll serve in a reserve role behind Joe Burrow. Although Flacco said he's content to reunite with Cincinnati, he added that he believes teams should've given him a chance to compete for a starting job in free agency.

"Believe me, I wish I was a guy somewhere," Flacco said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Ben Baby. "And I think teams are dumb for not having me be that guy."

Flacco added: "Not being one of those guys to go sign somewhere, yeah, it pisses me off a little bit. But at the same time, I'm very happy to be here."

The 41-year-old began last season with the Cleveland Browns but was traded to the Bengals in October after Burrow suffered a toe injury. A former Super Bowl MVP, Flacco provided Cincinnati's offense with a spark by completing 61.7% of his passes for 1,664 yards and 13 touchdowns against four interceptions in six starts.

Multiple teams sought to boost their QB1 competition in the offseason. The Atlanta Falcons signed Tua Tagovailoa to a one-year contract, the Minnesota Vikings added Kyler Murray on a one-year deal, the Miami Dolphins gave Malik Willis a three-year pact, and the New York Jets traded for Geno Smith.

"I know enough not to get super tied up emotionally with certain things and how to think about how they might play out because you really have no idea," Flacco said. "And who knows what those teams were thinking anyway, whether I was on their radar or not. I have no idea."

He added: "Maybe part of that does still motivate me to do what I'm doing. I probably do feel that way. I feel like I have unfinished business."

Flacco has recorded 201 starts across 18 NFL seasons, spending most of his career with the Baltimore Ravens from 2008-18. The former first-round pick hasn't started at least 10 games in a campaign for the same team since 2017.
Poor Chief fans. Still don't get to watch a game with the cameras pointed at Swift all the time.

Oh no bros...

2012 looks like its going to repeat itself.
How many Touchdownerceptions do you think we'll see this time?
There is at least a proposed rule change to allow egregious calls to be overturned from the booth. The officiating situation is an embarrassment. It's a $100-200Bn league and they trot out 60 year old hedge fund managers and retired dentists to ref. Now they've added billions upon billions in gambling to it as well. Refs need to be getting younger (like ex-players), be full time, and have training/education in the off season. We probably also need 2 more per game in the deep field for explosive plays.

Treat it like a real job and not like it's when players still had to keep day jobs. Give ex-players some kind of leg up on being accepted as a provisional official or something. It can be a fallback for all the guys who blow their money or who never made much.
