ORCHARD PARK, NY - DECEMBER 3: Marty Schottenheimer, head coach of the San Diego Chargers watches a play from the sidelines against the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium December 3, 2006 in Orchard Park, New York. San Diego won 24-21.

Marty Schottenheimer, who won 200 regular-season games with four NFL teams thanks to his “Martyball” brand of smash-mouth football but regularly fell short in the playoffs, has died. He was 77.
Schottenheimer died Monday night at a hospice in Charlotte, North Carolina, his family said through Bob Moore, former Kansas City Chiefs publicist. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014. He was moved to a hospice on Jan. 30.
Schottenheimer was the eighth-winningest coach in NFL history. He went 200-126-1 in 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers.

His success was rooted in “Martyball,” a conservative approach that featured a strong running game and tough defense. He hated the then-Oakland Raiders and loved the mantra, “One play at a time,” which he’d holler at his players in the pre-kickoff huddle.
Winning in the regular season was never a problem. Schottenheimer’s teams won 10 or more games 11 times, including a glistening 14-2 record with the Chargers in 2006 that earned them the AFC’s No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
It’s what happened in January that haunted Schottenheimer, who was just 5-13 in the postseason.
His playoff demons followed him to the end of his career.
In his final game, on Jan. 14, 2007, Schottenheimer’s Chargers, featuring NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson and a cast of Pro Bowlers, imploded with mind-numbing mistakes and lost a home divisional round playoff game to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, 24-21.
A month later, owner Dean Spanos stunned the NFL when he fired Schottenheimer, mostly because of a personality clash between the coach and strong-willed general manager A.J. Smith.
Schottenheimer was 44-27 with the Cleveland Browns from 1984-88, 101-58-1 with Kansas City from 1989-98; 8-8 with Washington in 2001 and 47-33 with San Diego from 2002-06.

Will next year Super Bowl get more lower ratings than the latest one? https://www.zerohedge.com/political/super-bowl-viewership-drops-multi-decade-low-nfl

The National Football League's (NFL) non-stop social-justice virtue-signaling this year combined with the fact that Super Bowl LV was a championship game unlike any other, considering it was played during a virus pandemic, and was a blow out, likely weighed on the audience, but the numbers were not pretty at all.

According to Nielsen, Super Bowl LV attracted 96.4 million viewers across CBS, streaming platforms, and other outlets. CBS alone had 91.6 million viewers, the most-watched show of the year. But compared to the broadcast of last year's Super Bowl, viewership was down 8%.

Deadline said, "the 55th Super Bowl distinctly had the smallest network audience since the very different TV era of 2006."

Despite the loss of viewership, Super Bowl LV was the most live-streamed event in history, with 5.7 million viewers per minute, up 69% from 2020's prior high.

The eruption in streaming makes perfect sense since cable cutting has been accelerating in recent years.

The 31-9 blowout game by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on home turf, with quarterback Tom Brady, also led to an audience decline through much of the game.

NFL ratings have slipped ever since Colin Kaepernick started to kneel at games in late 2016. Other players have followed his lead, and the league as a whole has shifted in promoting social justice causes.

During Super Bowl LV, the NFL aired a commercial to demonstrate the importance of diversity.

I know he's known for his teams choking in the playoffs, but that shouldn't change how great of a coach this man truly was. Every team he coached got better because of him

If anything, the constant choking is a testament to how good of a coach he could be. He routinely coached teams that had no business being in the postseason from a talent perspective into playoff runs.

And at least 3 of those instances had nothing to do with him. The Drive, The Fumble, and his last year with the Chargers were his players failing to execute. Especially those last two. Marty predicted that 4th quarter INT turning in to a fumble. He told that very player that if he gets a pick in the 4th, just go to the ground, and did he listen? Nnnnope. That 2010 Chargers team probably wins a ring under Marty, as Marty's teams were never as horrible with their fundamentals like Norv's Chargers were.

Florida Man Tom Brady (tm) apparently knows how to have a shitton of fun:

I can't fucking believe that he threw a Lombardi on a boat. My sides have been nuked from orbit.

daily reminder that the oilers' move to TN was a mistake
Bruh please. As a Titans fan, my dick is hard as fucking rock right now.
- Colts lose Philip Rivers. Still don't have a clue who their starter is next season.
- Texans are now missing the best player on their secondary, elite QB is begging to be traded.
- The Jaguars are confirmed fucking dogshit. Urban Meyers is unproven, Trevor Lawrence is coming in as a rookie.
- Texans don't even have good draft picks or trades to make some semblance of a competitive team.
I have literally no problem with how much of a mess the AFC South is right now. Guaranteed playoffs baby.:story:

no it's just that i miss them
fuck the texans, they're soulless

And it's racist because they haven't traded Deshawn Watson yet.

I'm just going to quote Mike Florio. I'm not going to archive it because fuck that asshole.

Obviously, the situations are very different. Watson is ascending, Watt is descending. Watson is 25, Watt is nearly 32. The Texans weren’t going to pay Watt $17.5 million in 2021, the Texans just signed Watson to a long-term deal less than six months ago. Many responded to the tweet (some politely, some less than politely) by making that observation.

He flat out writes that it's a completely different situation, but he's going to race bait anyway for woke points.

Ex-NFL WR Vincent Jackson found dead in Florida at age 38

The Hillsborough County (Florida) Sheriff's Office said Monday it is investigating the death of former NFL wide receiver Vincent Jackson.

The 38-year-old Jackson was found dead at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday at the Homewood Suites in Brandon, Florida. Police said there were no apparent signs of trauma and the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death.

According to hotel staff, Jackson, who is a South Tampa resident, checked into the hotel on Jan. 11 and had been staying in a room since that date.

Jackson's family reported him missing on Wednesday and a formal report was filed Thursday, but police located Jackson at the Homewood Suites on Friday. The missing persons case was canceled after Jackson's well-being was confirmed.

So the Bears are probably taking up Wentz, but he's really pushing to go to Indy. If Indy agrees they must be smoking some premium crack-rock to wind up being that fucking delusional.

I think the hottest commodity left is probably Mariota. I think he could do a lot with an o-line like that, but the Football Team seems like a good fit as well... then again everything nice they touch seems to die, so probably not.

I don't see Indy getting him because I don't view them wanting to give up draft picks for a guy whose career needs to get revived. The Bears would be the most likely as the GM and coach are going to be possibly fighting for their jobs this year.

I do have some :optimistic: with the football team only because Riviera is a good coach and I saw how nasty that defense became at the end of the year once all of the players and etc. went up to snuff with his schemes and such. I never like Mariota and I view him as just a backup. He never struck out to me as being "the guy" and played it too safe. But we'll see

Philadelphia Eagles trade QB Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts for two draft picks

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2021 third-round draft pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that could turn into a first-rounder, league sources told ESPN.

The Eagles will receive the 85th overall pick in this year's draft, and the conditional second-rounder can become a first-round pick based on Wentz's playing time, according to sources. Wentz needs to play at least 75% of the Colts' offensive snaps for the 2022 conditional pick to convey to a first-rounder, according to sources.

The pick also could become a first-rounder if Wentz plays at least 70% of the snaps and the Colts reach the playoffs. But the worst the 2022 pick can be is a second-rounder, meaning the Eagles are assured of netting two value picks for Wentz.
