On the subject of single-appearance characters, I somehow doubt modern Simpsons would do a joke about a psychotic guy polishing his gun and getting ready to shoot up his workplace.

To the audience, yes. But the writers don't care about their viewers.

So no, they never write her as wrong, even though she does shitty things.

There was an episode a few years back where Maggie ends up in the hands of some Christian cult after Marge was temporarily blinded. Lisa decoded some message they worshiped and assumed that she was their prophesied child that would bring about peace, only to be told that it's Maggie.

As far as modern Simpsons goes, that's probably the closest she's ever been wrong.
