I memba back when this show was sort of quasi realistic in that most episode plots revolved everyday shit like Homer losing his job or Bart getting bullied at school.
Now it's just straight up fantasy shit.

Or more likely their modern writers are all Harvard graduates that live in Beverly Hills and have no idea how regular people live. Also known as the Jerry Seinfeld problem where it's really hard to write relatable material when you're a detached millionaire with servants who interact with the proles on your behalf.

Some good episodes came after season 8 but I would not have been upset if Homer's Enemy was the series finale.

Their recent episode was already commentary on this kind of thing, its like the writers really wanted to spread their commentary throughout episodes this season. As for the chalmers episode itself, I found it qoute of a mess, doiung the zombie thing of disconnected plotpoints that get forgotten about and the voices sounding really strange.

Looks like we have a new contender for the worst Simpsons episode ever. Let's see if the writer of the Me Write Blog Good blog will put aside his usual hatred of modern Simpsons and call this a great and hilarious episode, just like he did with Bart vs. Itchy & Scratchy.

He doesn't, though. The whole point of that episode is that you would absolutely fucking loathe Homer if you had to work with him. Grimes is no saint, either, but Homer just seems to be going out of his way to antagonize him.
I guess the movie was supposed to be the public finally getting sick of Homer acting like a jackass but they had been mindlessly going along with his bullshit for so long at that point it felt forced.

Except Homer is miserable working at the power plant and he would much rather be working at the bowling alley.
I wouldn't love it, but i've worked with retards like Homer before and I would rather have a retard than someone who spends as much time being deranged about another co-worker for no reason.
Except that Homer invites him to dinner specifically goes out of his way for it to be special by having Marge make Lobster and Frank instantly jumps to "Homer eats like this every night" and then proceeds to set Homer up to look like an idiot by cutting off the "child" part of the Power Plant contest out of sheer pettiness. Which of course Homer is technically correct in "The Plant is okay as it is" because Ralph didn't build anything...and Martin hooked his powerplant up to the Room they were in..without permission.
Mind you Frank also interrupted said contest with an unwelcome outburst.
Grimes is a petty, bitter envious asshole who spent more time being obsessed about a Co-worker because Frank wasn't handed a house and Children the day he graduated unlike Homer who worked a Job he didn't like for years to pay off the House and then went back to that job when it became clear he had to do so for the good of his family's finances.

I've always seen that episode as a jab at people who took the show too seriously and complained that it was becoming too unrealistic as time went on.
It was basically the writers saying, yes, it's not realistic. If you had to live in a real Springfield and work with a real Homer Simpson? You'd go insane/get killed and nobody would care. That's because sitcoms aren't realistic, cartoons aren't realistic, cartoon sitcoms are definitely not realistic, and you need to get some perspective if you think we should focus this show on "real" things, even if we used to years ago.

Homer is facing consequences because he hates his job? That's 90& of people. Besides, as Grimes points out, he doesn't even do his job.
This is disingenuous. Not only does Homer not work, he eats Grimes' lunch, chews up his pencils (???) and refuses to call him by his name. Grimes' resentment toward him didn't come from nowhere and it wasn't unjustified.
I said Grimes wasn't a saint and this is why. There's no excuse for the way he acted at the dinner and afterward. But saying that Homer did nothing to earn Grimes' ire just because he hates his job is bizarre.
