I've decided to never watch this show again, except maybe the series finale. I grew up with the good seasons and it's really cringey to see what it's become. I can't even believe I still watched it this long, but I've been watching it for so many years. I would have preferred to see the show get cancelled than to turn into the piece of shit it's become. Originally, the plan was to cancel The Simpsons and replace it with Futurama, and that would have been best. Futurama never jumped the shark and it was just as good in the final season as it was in the first, and The Simpsons was still good in 1999.

Edna died in the show offscreen. To the show's credit, they did a respectful farewell to the character, but the show's been struggling to get a replacement teacher ever since (I think Ned has replaced her last I heard).

It's (kind of) been done. Ned was the principal in an early season and the school went to shit beause he let all the kids run wild. He only got fired when Superintendent Chalmers heard Ned say "let's thank the lord for another school day" over the intercom.
Then again, everything's been done multiple times; everything in the later seasons is a carbon copy of a carbon copy (etc.) of stories they had in the early seasons; every time they re-do the storyline it gets shittier and shittier.

Hell, they had Homer use the 'Disappear' gif in the latest episode.

Did you watch the Futurama movies or the episodes on comedy central? Those are pretty much like what The Simpsons are like now. Futurama would have been better if it stayed on Fox or just cancel when it was on Fox the first time around.

They even had an Obama stand-in as a Jesus allegory. I wish I was making this up.

Meh, Futurama was really hit or miss towards the end, but it never got as bad as The Simpsons, as there was usually at least one laugh an episode, whereas nowadays its rare for The Simpsons to have a laugh a season. I stopped watching regularly a while ago, but I would occasionally watch the new Treehouse of Horror episodes. I stopped completely when they turned to complete shit as well.

I stopped watching when they got rid of the actual scares.

I never really saw much of Futurama beyond that episode where Fry gets the robot devil's hands. From what I hear, maybe the show should've stayed over after it.

I'm sure somebody can compile a list of "not terrible" episodes from the Comedy Central seasons. Or you can hit wikipedia and just cross off any episode that tackles a political issue or is a fry & leela relationship episode. They kept trying to recreate serious emotional episodes like Jurassic Bark and Devils' Hands, and failed miserably every time.

This guy is more autistic than the Garfield collecting people:

Damn. I remember collecting a few Simpsons stuff back then but it never went beyond a few books or objects. There's always someone out there doing this.

It's one of the future episodes though, so maybe it's not canon

The only True and Honest Future episode was Lisa's Wedding; the rest are fake.

Didn't see or remember much of the Comedy Central, but Meanwhile was pretty charming. Although it will never beat the original ending.

"Please don't stop playing Fry. I want to hear how it ends."

What if question:

Why didn't the powers that be ever try to age the characters and give them growth? Age Bart and Lisa a little bit. Maybe Marge and Homer get divorced and get back together (there's probably an episode where that happened but you know what I mean). Kill off a beloved character or two (Yeah, Homer's mom died but she was only in 2 episodes tops before her death so I don't think she counts). Just have our characters grow would have been interesting.

They didn't do it because they're lazy and by season 10 or 12 everyone was just phoning it in.

i think this was meant to be funny? i'm honestly not sure.

That episode where the town goes after Bart for sucking at baseball used to be bad for how the town acted, but considering nowadays. That episode seems quite accurate in hindsight.

Doesn't excuse how poorly written the episode is, or its "Marge & Homer's marriage is on the rocks again, this time because of a mattress!" subplot
