The Official Simpsons Griefing Thread

This used to be one of my favorite shows on Fox but they just ran out of any fucking ideas at all, as well as trying to ramp up the edge factor to compete with Family Guy (Think the episode where Homer turns the garage into a sex dungeon).
I mean, fucking hell, I could write a better plotline for an episode of the Simpsons. Fuck, I'll do it right now.

Ned goes to visit Edna's grave with his sons Rod and Todd with the Simpsons there as well, only to have them discover her ex-husband Ken Krabappel at the grave site. Ned gets so mad he confronts Ken and actually gets into a fistfight with the man. The show would also include some subplot involving the Simpsons themselves, but they're not the central focus.
As the episode progresses we learn the truth about Ken and Edna's divorce. About how she got pregnant, leading to Ken wanting to "do the right thing" and marrying her, only to have the pregnancy end in a miscarriage, trapping them both in an unhappy and loveless marriage. They seek marriage counselling, which doesn't really help resolve their issues.
One day Ken visits the marriage councilor and admits that the marriage will never work, but that he's sticking with it only because he does care somewhat for Edna and doesn't want to hurt her by making her think that she was the cause of their marital problems.
The councilor and Ken come up with a plan which involves them pretending to have an affair and Ken "running off with her" when in reality Ken simply moves to another town. This serves to make Ken the bad guy in the whole situation and Edna, while hurt, wouldn't blame herself for the marriage failing. Turns out Ken wasn't the piece of shit we were always led to believe.
The episode ends with Ned and Ken parting on amicable terms.

It'd be one of those less funny, more emotional episodes, like the one where Lurleen Lumpkin reunites with her father. Sure we can cram in a lot of jokes here and there, but the main focus would be to try and hit the audience in the feels. Hell, toss in a subplot about Homer and Marge's marriage, which is only strengthened by these events. We can recycle soundbites of Edna from earlier episodes for her part in the episode.

Perhaps not the best, but I'd legit like to see the current writers do better than this.

Abe's Dad: [showing a picture of the Statue of Liberty] "...that's where we're going to live. Maybe not today, maybe not tommowrow, but some day..."

Abe (voice over): "Later that day we set sail for America."

I'm not saying I dislike the idea for the episode as I do like the more "serious" episodes but the obvious problem with it is that, to do an episode focused around Mrs. Krabappel flashbacks, they'd have to have someone replace the late Marcia Wallace as Mrs. Krabappel, who died along with her voice actress specifically because the producers didn't want to recast her.

To do this without Marcia Wallace or recasting, they'd have to have Ken narrate the flashbacks unless all of Mrs. Krabappel's lines were outtakes (and I doubt they'd have outtakes that would fit your plot outline).

Oh, it'd be a challenge without recasting, yes. The narration route would probably work the best. Short of splicing together lines like they did with Issac Hayes in the last episode Chef appeared in South Park, there's not much more they could do because they were pretty adamant about not recasting her out of respect.

Family Guy's been pretty shit this season, unlike last year, but even then the Simpsons are still worse.

Wanting to start another topic of discussion while we wait for new episodes, does anyone really trust the AVClub reviews? They're always giving the episodes B- or C+ ratings, and the one episode this season they gave a D was the most recent one, Girl On The Bus.

Like lookie here:

https://tv.avclub.com/marge-and-homers-new-self-driving-car-collides-with-a-m-1830214819

And then coincidentally, the two episodes with the highest ratings this season from them are the two that mention LGBT issues:

I feel like I'm seeing something here....I dunno what, but I feel like they are going WAY too easy on this show.

I remember reading their Lost and Heroes writes up back in the day. It was pretty good, but it quickly decayed once the Orange Man Cometh.

Far worse than any modern Simpsons reviews were the write ups of classic Simpsons by Nathan Rabin, which were unreadable pretentious garbage.

You know what I loved most about the older episodes of the Simpsons? Trying to figure out if the writers KNEW how some of what they put in sounded.
C'mon! "I'll plug your hole!" Who the fuck doesn't realize that sounds fucking wrong?! Of course, that's why it was so fucking funny.

Another thing...there was truth to the overall sarcastic, satirical nature of the show, like with Mr. Burns before he got neutered:

The truth in this quote is astounding. It sounds absolutely silly, but there's that good ol' layer in there that really makes it work.
