The "One-in-Five" Rape Statistic - Will this nonsense ever die?

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Yeah but like, does this come up a lot between you and your peers? I doesn't seem like a topic that comes up often other then politics and personal stories. And I don't want be that guy busting out stats to a rape victim. So it's usually just politics. Idk where I'm going with this, I just haven't had a real life situation where someone tried to name me a rape apologist because I said men get raped in jail too.

If it's all shit on the internet then never mind, people are just dumb.
It is mostly restricted to internet discussion, though in my case I mean specifically people with whom I have a RL relationship (and who I met IRL, not online). I'm in a discussion group with these people that exists (ostensibly) for the very purpose of debating sensitive current affairs, so my bringing up stats is germane in this case. But the most vocal bloc of the group is not happy if you challenge the party line.

So no, it's not too many of my peers, and none of the people I call friends try to shut down points that don't already feed their chosen conclusions. But it's quite easy to find, I think.

First off, the context of the statistic should be brought back into point. It's not just one in five women in the U.S, the statistic says it's one in five women on college campuses.

That doesn't mean it's not bullshit, though, but I can see some people have disregarded the whole college part of the statistic. Anyway, the reason it's become so ingrained in society as fact is because people like the Vice President himself have supported the number. According to the U.S Bureau of Justice, the number is actually 1 in 52.6. Way too many, yes, but definitely better than 1 in 5.

To actually stop the rapid misinformation, it would probably take a future President to address the issue, since the current VP has proven himself incompetent. However, doing so would immediately spark outrage, and the President will have better things to worry about.

Female college students are less likely to bevictims of crime than any other demographic in the country, even sites flooded with left-wing bias such as the Daily Beast admit this fact. The US currently has the lowest crime rates of the last sixty years. We have less thefts, less arsons, less shootings, less assaults, less murders, and lessall other types of violent crime than both our parrents and grandparents.

Yet not only are we still seeing serious attention given to this fake crime wave, we're yet again focusing on protecting the people in the country least likely to be victims of any type of crime.

The sidjwas have literally recreated the 'white slavery' panic beat-for-beat. If this nonsense originated from the right, they'd justifiably be cut off at the balls for the Orwellian measures they've enacted. There's a special spot in hell for those whom so willingly tear apart society's protective measures in the name of the immaginary.

Now this says at least one of the following:
  • The people who tout the statistic have no understanding of data analysis nor elementary mathematics.
  • They know it's nonsense, but are fine using it anyway because they're completely lacking in both moral principle and respect for human rights.
  • They don't care one way or the other whether it's nonsense. Inciting a moral panic is just a new acceptable tool for them to use.
  • They've long since adopted the mindset of cultists and are impervious to thinking.
So what the hell can be done to put this shit to bed forever? Whose front porches need a flaming bag of dogshit on the steps to stop the panic? Where is the list of people who need a good, fat loogie in their iris so every individual one can be hit?

Some of it is a moral panic. Nothing gets people in an uproar than hearing about young, upper-middle class white women in danger. Some of it is a way to virtue signal; proving what a great person you are by saying rape is wrong. I've linked Fred Clark's posts before, but it's what I think is happening nowadays.
